If Maria wins tomorrow and doesn't make the Championships can she play Bali for the million dollar bonus. I remmeber reading somewhere that if you win 3 of these smaller tournament and win Bali there is a million bonus. Does anyone know anything about this?

I really hope she makes the real YEC, but if she doesn't make it, it would be great if she plays Bali.
I seriously doubt she would go though.

Well apparently the only reason she didnt take a WC there last year was not enough appearence money so if she has a million to play for Im sure she'd go.

Don't the rules state that if you win an International tournament and don't make the YEC in Doha then you HAVE to play Bali?

This is the WTA Tour. No one has to do anything if they have enough money.

Why give a million dollars to a MM Queen? :weirdo:It doesnt sound right to me, either.
Most of the players entering these small tournaments are broke. Desperate for points.
And they give 1 person a million? The WTA is nuts if they do this

no she wont if she doesn't want to. a million is nothing to maria. she turned down playing the billie jean cup thing this year and that is 250,000 just to turn up.

oh, that explains why she played Memphis and Strasbourg I guess.

Btw, people says all the time that she is a MM queen. But after birmingham, I doubt that she will play another one. Which means 3. And it's not her fault that she is actually winning them. Most top players play at least one or two MM event every year.

It could happen. Even if she wins tomorrow, she'll just barely be top30 in the race... It'll be really hard to qualify for the YEC.

This is dumb  Especially if it goes to a player like Maria Sharapova. I guess for up-and-comers or little-known players this could do a lot of good... But they might as well spread the $1 million amongst the finishers and offer more prize money

Article as proof: http://www.topnews.in/sports/wta-bali-title-could-be-worth-extra-million-dollars-2009-24815

Any player who lifts three International trophies during the year and then wins the November 4-8 wrap-up in Bali will walk away with an extra 1 million dollars.

"The prospect of a million-dollar bonus will guarantee excitement throughout the year as players compete in the International Series as part of their Road To Bali campaign." [tournament director Kevin Livesey]

that was for 2009

on page for Bali 2010 there is no information about that bonus

The second annual Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions is scheduled for November 4 to 7, 2010 at the Bali International Convention Centre. Featuring top Sony Ericsson WTA Tour players and next generation champions competing in an eight woman, single elimination singles format (with the singles final and third/fourth-place play-off on finals day), it offers $600,000 prize money.

Eight players who have captured at least one International tournament during the year and who are not participating in singles at the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2010 will qualify for the event. The tournament may have an option to award players wildcards into the tournament.

The Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions debuted in Bali in 2009 and will continue there at least through 2011.

Below is a look at the Road to Bali - the 32 International tournaments (each offering $220,000 in prize money) leading up to the season-ending finale.

The reason she's called that is because she is 12-0 in International tournaments this year, and 3-4 everywhere else

Didn't she turned down a wildcard for Bali last year because a million for appearing was not enough?

Well, an avera International winner is either a top 20 player or someone like Dulko, AMG or Benesova that always makes deep runs in these fields.

The winners are hardly "broke". That million dollar paycheck might double or triple their annual salary but it's like they're from Soweto back in 1980.
