so Monica and Amelie are the ones who have nothing to worry about...I hope Monica does well in LA

I hope Monica can get a top 4 seed for the Aus Open.

It's near impossible for Monica to get a top four seed for OZ. Lindsay still has a couple injury protected sedings left, and she'll surely save one for OZ, for Lindsay will get the #4 seed there. The #4 seed for RG is nearly a given, since she missed almost all of clay seasonlast year.

Jarrett

How do you figure she will save one? I thought Linz was her last one.

#2: 2002-07-29 San Diego 145 SF II
#3: 2002-08-05 Los Angeles 194 F II #4:
#4: 2002-08-19 New Haven 225 F II

#6: 2002-09-30 Moscow 231 F I
#7: 2002-10-07 Filderstadt 78 QF II

If Lindsay is seeded #4 at either Linz (if she decides to play) or the WTA Championships that will be her eighth (and final) event with her special ranking.

Yeah Lindsay's seeding thing is up But Unless something goes wrong with Mauresmo, Monica will have to practically win the Championships to get a #4 seed, its not out of the picture but not likely, actually, she needs to get a 7 or 8 seed as they usually play the 3rd or 4rth seeds and Monica would Kill JCap and if playing well could beat Mauresmo

Jarrett

I think Kim will beat Ameile tomorrow. As for Monica winning the year end championships, I could happen. I think Monica is tired of not winning a big tourament. Go Monica!

Jarrett

Wait, I just looked at who is entered at Swisscom, and if it is true Lindsay has entered so that will be her eighth event. That means she will not be a top 4 seed at the championships in LA.

Also, Monica has warm-up events that she can play to boost her ranking to get a top four seeding. It's not impossible!

The Top four at the Champs will be The Sisters (if both show which is a question mark) Capriati and Mauresmo.

As for Monica, in her latest interviews she seems to be talking more and more about winning grand slams and i think shes a tad more hungry, so we'll see

Yeah, I think we knew that. I am talking about the Aus Open.

Lindsay wouldn't have a top #4 seeding @ the WTA Championships since the seedings are determined on the position you finished in the Race not your official ranking at the time.

Say she had only managed to get to the second round in all her tournaments she wouldn't have qualified for WTA Championships. Because she's managed to get to the SF in all her events this year except one, she's got a very good chance in making the Championships, even though her ranking will take a major dent she should still finish in the Top 15... it could have been much worse, she could have finished out of the Top 20.

No, that is not way is works AFAIK. You qualify to the Championships by the total points you earned throughout the year and you current ranking is what you are seeded by.

sorry my mistake Jarrett. Point is if Lindsay qualified the chances are she'll go against one of the top 8 seeds in the first round - can you imagine either one of the Williams vs Davenport in the first round of that tournament? It would be an organisers nightmare moreso than a delight ;)

Amelie had nothing to worry..

She can reach top 3 very soon if Jennifer showed poor performances like in Filderstadt!!

Well Monica now has 2796 points

Lets say she wins the Champs, she'll have around (roughly)
3600 points. That will lock her for #3, if not #4. Lets say shes runner up, then she'll have around 3400 points, which will lock her for #4. Lets say she gets to the SF, then she'll have around 3200 points, which means shes a lock for 5 but not 4. if she gets to the QF, then she has around 3100 points which will lock her for 5 but not 4.

So Monica (as long as she doesnt get Lindsay in 1st round) looks like a lock for #5 since Clijsters has points to defend.

The #3-4 seeds do NOT get set up to play #7-8 in the quarterfinals. In fact, it can be the very opposite. Some tourneys set up the draw so that in the quarters, seeds #1-2 play #7-8, and #3-4 play #5-6. It's just like in the NCAA tournament. The other tournaments just have it set up so that any seeds among #1-4 can play any seeds among #5-8.
