Great first set by Na. Rezai picked her game up in the second, didn't miss as much, got the break in the end. Na too strong in the third!

I went to the tournament today BECAUSE of this match (notice both are in my sig ;) ) I thought it was too great an opportunity to miss two of my faves so close-up live...and O.M.G when she's good, Na Li is REALLY good. I really couldn't appreciate her tennis until i saw it in front of me today. She absolutely crunches the ball, hitting it so low over the net, it absolutely flies through the air, and so often it's crazily deep or briliantly angles, and so many times she hit the lines. Really, the whole match was about Na - considering how offensive and powerful Rezai is (she really is - so exciting to watch in front of you) she was surprisingly ineffective for much of this match. Methinks much of it is due to the fact Li is obviously so much more comfortable on the grass; she was the far better mover of the two.

The first set and a half flew by, and Na was in complete control, nailing winner after winner, really getting Aravane on the run and hitting hardly any UEs. After that, Li totally lost her head for a bit. Rezai really got going, middling the ball much more consistenly and finally getting Na on the run and making Li look like she couldn't handle Rezai's power. In full flight, Aravane is great to watch. However, by the third set, Na had found her head again and was dictating. So many of her shots made the crowd "ooh and aah" because the way she hits it (particularly that FH) is so impressive, and she literally hits winners from nowhere - sometimes it seemed like she was just shaping up for a rallying shot, and she'd smack a FH winner. The crowd loved it. The result was never in doubt toward the end, and she won it with a great CCFH winner.

Loved seeing Rezai, who's a big fave, but Li was the deserved winner today, and I still can't believe how impressive she was at times (maybe it's because I saw it live; had I watched this match on TV I might have been a little less enthusiastic about it  I just found it uber exciting) If she could cut out these silly lapses in concentration, where EVERYTHING she hits is an UE, she could go even higher.

Cute moment at the end: in the on-court interview, Na was asked how much she'd practice tonight, and study Maria's game; she said: "No! No tennis tonight. I want to go out and party and eat as much as I can!" She gave a fab interview; she really made the crowd laugh; she seems really fun and likeable!

All in all, I had a great day. :D

Haha, aww thanks, I FELT lucky. To have Na walk right past me after she'd won was :hearts: Btw, she was VERY vocal and pumped for this match - she REALLY wanted it and was thrilled to win. Great to see her so motivated. When she actually decides to play and concentrate she's so good.

It might sound an odd thing to say, but having seen these players live I can really appreciate how talented they all are. It should go without saying, for a (former) top tenner, but Li, for example, is just a high quality athlete. So is Maria, so is Aravane. Watching on TV is one thing, but seeing them in person makes you realise just how good these ladies are. I can truly admire their talent now and I don't think I'm ever going to call a pro player shit, again.
