If you had to give these players odds for their chance of winning Wimbledon, what would you give them?

Serena Williams
Venus Williams
Justine Henin
Kim Clijsters
Maria Sharapova
Sam Stosur
Francesca Schiavone

Also, what round do you think they will make it to? (of course, tougher without seeing the draw). Feel free to add more

In my opinion:

Serena Williams 1/2
Venus Williams 1/2 (really 50/50 for me which Williams will win right now, as much as I don't like to admit it..)
Justine Henin 1/8
Kim Clijsters 1/16 (how will she be after her injury and time off?
Maria Sharapova 1/16
Sam Stosur 1/32
Francesca Schiavone 1/128 :tape:

I think Venus will win, beating Serena in the final, with Justine and Sharapova (:hearts: ) falling in the semis, and Clijsters losing in the quarterfinal. Stosur will lose R16 and Schiavone 3rd round

Because anyone else will probably have to beat both Venus and Serena to win, its going very tough for anyone to do that.
Justine and Kim have done it at USO's, but Venus is much tougher here.
I'll be surprised if its not Venus or Serena.

But Fran against Sam in Paris shows that you never know for sure.

They should technically add up less than 1 because there's others in the draw

However 1/2 Venus 1/2 Serena seems about right.

They aren't "probabilities", per say. They're more like odds.

 You're right, I obviously didn't mean Serena and Venus are each 50/50 to win it.. I meant more that they are 50/50 against each other as to who is the favorite. If you wanted to do probabilities, obviously I would consider them more of 1/3, 1/3. With everyone else adding up to 1/3. :p

Venus Williams - A very good chance IMO. As the 2nd seed, she'll enjoy a good draw which will make her road to the second week easier. Venus is a natural on grass, she was born to play on the surface and it's safe to say she's the best grasscourt player in the draw.

Serena Williams - World's best player can be considered as world's best on grass, if you're taking out Venus. The best serve, the ability to flat out her shots, the winning mentality, it's all there. I would say Venus is the better player on grass, but as history shows us, Serena has the edge in Wimbledon finals, and that's the stage they're expected to meet this year as well. So a good chance for Serena to win it all.

Justine Henin - The most complete player, has every shot in her arsenal, she can be a nightmare on the surface. She can slice the ball to keep it really low, and make the tall girls to bend so much they can brake their knees. Plus the best vollier IMO. The serve is a big question. If she serves like usually, it'll be difficult, especially cause she's expected to play some tough matches before the semis. I would say she's the 4th favourite.

Kim Clijsters - IMO Kim's movement on grass was never too impressive, and she's very much can be upseted in the early rounds. Having said that, she's a real champion, and you can never underestimate someone like that.

Maria Sharapova - She's my pick to win Wimbledon this year. I feel she's peaking right now and she's so hungry it'll be very difficult to beat her. Maybe the best flat shots, up there with Venus. Aggressive, great finisher, maybe the strongest mentally. If serve is working, she is the player to beat.

Sam Stosur - Great serve, great vollies, super forehand. Not a grass player IMO, can't move on the surface, having difficulties picking up the low balls, timing will be an issue. Can do well but too much room for an upset.

Francesca Schiavone - Riding on a confidence wave, plus have got a great ranking so her draw is not gonna be a killer. I would say she can make it to the round of 16, maybe the last 8.

I hope the semis are:

Serena or Venus vs. Sharapova

and

Serena or Venus vs. Henin

I'd be happy with any of those four winning but I think I'd most like to see Sharapova win. However, I think we'll probably see another all Williams final and Serena is probably the favourite.

Unfortunately with Sharspova and Henin being ranked at #17 and #18 they could meet up with the Williams sisters as early as the fourth round.

Venus didnt win last year......

anyways...
Venus= 60% (she is much more likely to be in the final and unless Serena is there she will win and still could win if Serena is there)

Serena= 30% (She is likely to make the final not as likely as Venus though as the past has shown, but I havent been as impressed with her serve this year as I was last, and she needs her serve at Wimbledon. If she makes the final though I give her the edge, but I wont be that shocked if shes not in the final)

Henin=5% (Has made 2 finals, but personally, I dont see it happening with the game she has this year.... Shes making too many errors and playing the kind of game Serena and company are better at. She brings that against Venus she'll get eaten alive on the grass

Maria= 5% Ive always thought grass was Maria's best surface even as annoying as TEd is with his Wimbledon at 17.... Not sure why she keeps bowing out early to scrubs lately....Might just be the pressure of not playing well and she gets to Wimbledon and everyone expects her game to just reappear on the grass.... If her Serve is there I see a deep run but still not winning.

Stosur= 0% anyone coach with half a brain can give their player what they need to beat stosur off the clay.... The grass will not give her the time to run around her shots to hit the forehand.

Kim=0% Kim has never really factored at Wimbledon I dont see why she will start now...

Schiavone=0% She should just retire and live in the moment....Take it out of Safin's book and hit the clubs maybe play a tournament here and there.

That's how I would apportion it too. :yeah:

I suppose I would make Henin and Sharapova a distant joint third but I don't see Henin beating either of the sisters on grass this year and Sharapova is still prone to the odd upset here and there.

Sharapova hasn't done well at Wimbledon in four years since 2006. However, she is the only woman in the draw besides the Williams Sisters to have won Wimbledon before. Sharapova does seem to be playing better than last year. I am surprised some people put Henin over Sharapova for chances to win. I disagree, I think Sharapova has a much better chance to win Wimbledon than Henin or Clijsters.

1. venus 35% (wimbledon history + playing good all year + no injuries)
2. serena 30% (defending champ, but i think venus is a bit better on grass when on)
3. henin 11% (it's her mission, but i think it might be too soon)
4. clijsters 10% (back from foot injury, i'd like to see how she's doing in eastbourne first. 3-0 against the sisters since her comeback)
5. sharapova 9% (slowly coming back, although there's still a big questionmark)
6. someone else 5% (maybe an inspired hantuchova, wozniacki, radwanska or jankovic. but i doubt it)
