Maria's missed her chance for the top 10 this year because of a crappy first half- where she had no points to defend. Outside of the USO she did pretty well at the end of last year = no rankings boost.

It is mathematically impossible for Maria to become No. 2 this year - I think. She has lots of points to defend. It is possible for her to be back in the top 10 but not No. 2.

8) Dementieva
9) Sharapova

 Sounds about right maybe besides Henin moving that much.

Jankovic has so little overall to defend for a long stretch. Highly doubt she will bomb out of the USO again which gives her some growing room.

I expect Henin to turn it up and making some moves.

Stosur will level out result wise, but she has little to defend and her results from earlier in the season will hold her steady.

Schiavone might have 1 or 2 good results mixed in with a few mediocre ones.

Wozniacki has to defend Eastbourne, New Haven, USO F, YEC SF, and other points here and there. Definitely expecting her to drop some.

Dementieva is defending Wimbledon SF and USO Series winner so she's going to have to do something big in the next few months. Actually think she could be lower than #8.

Clijsters I am unsure about because after the grass season she has to start defending and she really hasn't done much this year besides Miami. Brisbane points are so irrelevant. With her sparse scheduling there really isn't room for a huge point jump besides YEC(assuming she qualifies) and I don't see her defending her USO title.

Radwanska has a chunk of her ranking to defend at the grass season plus she had a surge at the end of the year with back to back deep runs at the Tier Is last year in Tokyo/Beijing. Had a modest summer though, but she probably won't improve much on that.

Radwanska, Clijsters, Dementieva are all wildcards depending on how well they do as well as Li Na. Possibly Peer as well.

Its possible if she wins both the US open and Wimbledon..Franceska won The French open and got from like 17 to 6 now..Imagine maria with 4000 points under her belt from the Slams she will be number 2 in no time:devil:(Its kind of Dreamy but well:angel:)

It's more clear after the Wimbledon, but I think it's very hard for Sharapova to crack the top 10, she'd have to have excellent results. She has collected 810 points this year, whereas 9th person (Peer) in the race has 2280. Add Li, Rezai, Petrova, Azarenka, Zheng, Radwanska, Clijsters also to the mix. She'd have to better them in each tournament, to make the cap smaller. (This week she can have maximum 280 points, but Li or Rezai will be in the final for sure, so she'd take only 80 points back from one of them, if that.)

Those people having Sharapova higher than Schiavone, do you think Schiavone will lose in the 1st round for the rest of the year, or will have an injury?
