Tight, tough match. Seemed like Karlovic v Roddick on grass there forawhile, no breaks through 3-3 second set. Aravane into the SF! :inlove:

Next one will be tough no matter who. Take it, Aravane!

Glad Rezai pulled it out. It would have been terrible to lose to Errani. I saw her play once and more than half of her shots don't go past the service line. I'm surprised Rezai wasn't punishing those shots

Sara  Good effort!

I saw her play in Miami this year-twice--and I think she's pretty solid. She seemed to handle the pace of Kleybanova very well and was only slightly less consistent from the baseline than Zvonareva, so I knew she would be tough today. Glad Aravane got through in straight sets.

How is Rezai's game on grass?

I have only seen her play on clay.
Even on clay, she was playing power tennis with 1-2 punch combo.
One woud think this would work best on grass.

Sara  Good tournament though after a mediocre clay-court season though. :)

Pretty much an unknown. Even now, she doesn't have a lot of matches on grass in her career. But she seems to be playing better on it this year than in the past, so every little bit of experience helps.

Personally, I agree with your assessment that her game, in theory, should translate well to grass, especially now that her two biggest liabilities--serve and movement--have both received recent upgrades. Her slice serve out wide should be effective on grass (she had 6 aces and 3DFs today, and in the past at best that would be reversed) and her huge returns and flattish groundies should also be ideal.)

OTOH, some have argued, quite logically, that she likes the moderately higher bouncing ball that clay gives her, and that if she has to hit those big flat shots from below the net, she will be far more error-prone. A sensible argument.

I'm curious to see how far she goes this grass court season as even if she doesn't win, she can rack up a lot of points she has missed in the past. Of course, that doesn't stop me from hoping she gets the Big W.

Watching this now; it really is all Rezai; either her winners or errors (for the most part) She looks to be hitting the ball nicely and moving well on the grass. Na will be a much bigger test though. Can't wait to see both live tomorrow!

Match went pretty much as expected, all on Aravane's racket. Was impressed that Errani got more aggressive when she was down in the 2nd and made a real go of it, but Rezai is so like Li Na on grass, when it goes in it's so hard to handle.

Oh and LMAO @ the tournament's speed gun claiming Rezai was regularly 110mph+, they're clearly juicing it, she hit a sliced second serve and it said it was 95

Well, being as it's Birmingham, and given all of the tech problems this week, I wouldn't doubt that it wasn't accurate, but Aravane's clearly beefed up her serve lately. At RG and Madrid, she was regularly getting it into the 115 range.

Sesil hitting 105 too I totally don't buy, she's using that thing as a means to start the point. Magda was routinely 112-118 too, I think they're overcooking it by 5-8mph.

I could believe Rybarikova, actually. As a junior at Wimbledon, the gun was catching her at 114.
