Wickmayer  So mediocre. Her stroke production is just awful. Never seen a Top20 player make errors on such routine balls. The best part is how much she overrates herself, thinking that every call is wrong against her and even giving pitiful handshakes after almost every loss. Good riddance.

Riske...what a NEW-AMERICAN-GOAT. :worship:

Riske's comment about peeing herself :sobbing:

I'm so happy! Naturally beautiful tennis and great moving. She seems to be very aware of her limitations and uses her strengths perfectly. She was a bit reluctant to go for her shots at the end, but thankfully Wickmayer of Belgium helped.

Riske is ranked in 200s. Of course they had no business losing to her. But as we all know, they're both ridiculously bad these days, so their losses came off as somehow expected.

She has also had very few opportunities to play against top 100 players ever, especially on grass, which is clearly a great surface for her. It also could be that she is just a superior grass court player than some of these girls, as it's fair to say that Wozniak's game is not exactly tailor-made for the surface. I guess I'm just trying to say that people are always trying to diminish the accomplishments of players. Bottom line, in each of her matches, Alison and her opponent have started on even footing, and she has done her job better each time, which tells me she has every bit of business beating them.

This was the first time I've seen Riske play. And only say the first set. But she served Wickmayer into the ground. And she can get her passing shots to dip, and I've neer seen Wickmayer volley well.

Wozniakīs game is not made for boundaries, but without lines Wozniak would thrive. :tape:

Riske ainīt going anywhere. Her game is somewhat suited for grass, because she has a decent serve, and half the girls move like cows on ice on the grass, but that forehand will get her nowhere. :tape::tape:

Happy for Riske, she deserved it (and Yanina's been a bit of a prima donna around the grounds, refusing pictures, taking the diva way out on Court 4 for practice today like Sharapova - believing her own hype and feeling the pressure methinks), but the one thing today is people went on about MLDB but Riske is WAY worse on the grunting. Not only is it louder (I heard her 4 courts away on Monday) she sometimes waits until the ball's crossed the net to *begin* the huge "Aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" grunt and many times the ball was bouncing/had bounced and she's still making that racket. It interferes with the opponent's shot preparation and she needs to cut it out because it's completely unsportsmanlike. Shame because her game's very watchable.

Thanks for that video.

Wickmayer just provides so much hating material. Too easy. Way too easy.

Perhaps a little abrupt, but other than that I can't see much wrong with either handshake.

who was that cute blond girl at the stands cheering for Riske? Her coach?

She came on to see her during the match as her "coach" but I think it was her sister (she mentioned her sister in her post-match speech).

Yep, looks like her older sister Sarah :) She was a NCAA college player and played a couple of seasons on the ITF circuit after graduating :)

How is this girl winning matches? Good for her, but her game is just dreadful. I can't support that...

Her sister is her coach. Alison trains in Hilton Head now, and her sister was one of the teaching pros at an academy there. Her boyfriend/occasional hitting partner plays on the Men's team at Vanderbilt, so she's pretty much got it made on that front

Agreed. I thought she bit her hand off or something based on all the posts....

It was a clasic limp, not even looking handslap. Bad even by WTA standards!

After going to and not getting into Brisbane,AO, and Memphis this year its great to see her getting these results...The funny thing is that she signed up for 3 10ks that were this month and her first grass playing was during her R1 at Nottingham..Go Alison...personally, i wouldnt want to give up a full ride to Vanderbilt, but she was playing amazing at the time.
It was probably a tough call for her, especially since she was totally adamant about going to college and staying for all 4 years at one point. That being said, the fact she won a 50K and now just reached the semifinals here while still in her rookie year on tour obviously shows that she made the right call. For every American player that makes the boneheaded decision to forego college and turn pro (and there have been a LOT of them), there are other players like Vania King and Riske who show that they did make the right decision.

Wickmayer barely even touched her hand. Someone needs to tell that bitch that she's not as good as she thinks she is.

Alison :cheer: I am really happy for you! She really is genuinely a nice girl and I am not surprised at all that she is having good results on grass. Her game totally suits the grass. However, I do not remember that grunt from a few years ago...Is this new? :help:

It's not a 1:1 ratio at all unfortunately...

Yeah, well. Itīs not very nice against the winner, but to a point understandable. Nobody likes it to lose.
Most players donīt show their anger, frustation or sadness, but sometimes the emotions are too strong to hid behind a (false) smile.

Yeah I'd say give Yanina a break for her handshakes. Most players don't give overly-friendly handshakes. Verdasco doesn't give good handshakes most of the time but he's one of the good guys. :p

Wickmayer ain't going top 10 anytime soon with such losses :o.

And people need to give her a break . I've seen way worse handshakes. At least she doesn't talk shit like most other girls do, these days - and I believe it's worse. Haters will take every single possibility to bitch on her.
