View Full Version : Brum: Rezai/Rodionova arguing before the match even *started*

So after waiting around all day in Birmingham and being booted off centre court to make way for Queen Maria and banished to the wasteland that is court 3 ... Rezai and Rodionotalent got out there and within minutes were at it. Nastya sent down a serve right at Aravane in the warm up, to give her credit she did shout "watch out" but Rezai froze and it only just missed her between racket and body - obviously she was greeted with the obligatory death stare :fiery:. Then a couple of minutes later Rodionova started arguing with the umpire and got into a full blown shouting match with Rezai because she was trying to claim that the decision made after the toss wasn't what had happened. Umpire wasn't having any of it, Rezai *then* decides to whine about "she tried to hit me!"

On a side note Vladimira Uhlirova was sat pretty much next to me and the 3 other people who were watching Tammy/Sania - good match - rather than Sharapova (and was being very chatty with people all around her whilst having her crepe, which she wasn't overjoyed with ;)) and she said how it was bound to happen because "they're both great, but they're so aggressive" and that she'd never seen a fight in the warm up before :p. I mentioned that it was a shame they weren't on centre court (thinking to myself because of the entertainment value) to which she replied "Yes, but they have no class" which I almost :lol:ed over before I realised she meant they're not top class players so that's why they weren't on centre court (to be fair to her she was flicking between French with the guy in front of her and English otherwise). Thought for a moment the bitchiness from the court had made its way to the stands

Oh okay I'll make this a full out gossipy thread, I heard some linespeople talking during the rain delay and apparantly Nastya was shouting at one of the tournament people in the WTA office about Lynn Walsh. I'd seen the match on Monday against Misa and Rodionova *was* whining her backside off about the court

Maybe she's mellowed in the years since then, I'm referring to after she won each of her b2b college singles championships in the 90s. No "dirt" as in scandal, she was just totally full of herself, like she'd won a Slam or something (especially after the 2nd one). Whereas I'm told by ppl in "Chicagoland" that when Laura Granville later also won b2b college singles titles, she remained exactly the same humble (even shy) person she was B4.

Ah, ok. Thanks for that! That was a while back. Geez, it must had been in 92-93? You are an oldie, then. Kinda like me ;). But I only really saw Raymond for the first time in 96 or so I think. Didn't really notice her until probably 98, during the USA-Spain Fed Cup. I am sure that, hmmm, let's say, subsequent singles results helped to deflate her ego a bit. ;) I agree on the impression that Laura Granville is/was a lovely girl. My friend was a huge fan when Laura came on tour, so we got to see her play and talk to her some (not that many fans around). Granville really struggled to make it on tour, though. Raymond did a lot better.

Later, Chakvetadze held no such reservations after her second-round loss to Na Li. She was animated and replaying the incident through gestures with two Russian reporters in a small interview room and went through the story again with The Times. She said that when the matter escalated, Arsalan Rezai got physical with Sergey Vesnina, the father of Elena.

"He hit him with his head to the nose," Chakvetadze said, adding that that the elder Rezai inadvertently hit his daughter with a racket.

"He make a backswing to hit someone, like my dad, and he hit his daughter with a racket to the face," she said. " … She started to cry and her mother, I think she thought somebody [one] of our dads hit her, and she started to scream."

yes... i recall watching her in KL in the doubles finals. she and her sister arina were down in the 2nd set when she started complaining about zheng and chan's grunting. the thing is she didn't have a problem with it during the first set when they were winning. when the umpire told zheng/chan about it, they said they were doing it throughout the match and why is she complaining about it now when she's losing. then anastassia directly talked to the chinese pair that "enough is enough". after that, chan grunted louder and aimed the ball directly at arina who's trying to volley and almost hit arina. when chan won the point, she shouted "come on" so loudly.
