Only tournament I can remember being cancelled because of weather...are we in for a repeat?
Also, should tournaments that clearly have weather problems be forced to get a roof (or at least tarps without holes in them) or lose their WTA license?

They had to play several matches indoors at the ATP tournament in Nottingham a couple of years ago, I don't know if they could do that here.
As for the second question, that tournament was moved moved to Eastbourne last year so maybe..

Please tell me that the players who won rounds get their points still. How unfair would that be to a girl like Alison Riske who travels all the way to the UK, qualifies and gets her first MD win, only to have the event canceled and lose their points. I really hope this isn't the case.

Tennis is an outdoor sports. That can happen. And eventually will. It has survived a hundred years without roofs and will in the future.

I think if it was exceptionally bad weather, that'd just be tough luck.

But it seems as though it's just moderately poor weather combined with rank incompetence. Queens is on schedule, and the weather hasn't been that different down here.

You'd have thought that making sure you have adequate covers, and that play starts promptly on the available courts was an absolute minimum for hosting an international tennis tournament.

Speaking of rank incompetence, I was at The Priory in Birmingham on Tuesday waiting for Flipkens v King to start. The court had just been made ready when the rain fell again. The tourney ref was stood on the court under an umbrella wondering if it was wet enough to cover the grass. Both players just sighed and wandered back inside while the court got soaked and the whole thing descended into a polite shambles...

agreed, very exciting times for women's tennis, i knew tauziat was going to do well at wimbledon with the way she was paying in brum that year.

in fact i'm convinced that if there had been no rain she would have ended up beating graf in the semis, which would have been her only career win over her. luckily for me as a fan, the heavens openened

Steffi was out almost a whole year except 2 weeks from Roland Garros 97 beacuse of her knee-surgery. She was unranked that time, and was suffering from match practice.
I'm sure she was nervous gainst Stubbs, who is one of her best friend, so no wonder they played a close match.
At the semis she was 0-3 vs. Tauziat when it was washed away, but that already was played on Sunday, it was rumored that the tourny goes indoors, but it got cancelled because most of the players travelled over to Eastbourne.
