View Full Version : What is the best tennis game (video game/PC)?

I want to buy a console next month, but I want to know that tennis games (especially WTA) are the best, because more than often I end up playing Virtua Tennis on my ps2, and still is dificult sometimes (at least I can play Mary Pierce)!

For Wii, there´s Grand Slam tennis, is that a good game? And I know the ps3 has top spin 3 and virtua tennis 3 and 2009, but I found top spin a little sluggish...

What do you consider the best? And anyone has information on new tennis games?? Thanks!

I´m so addicted to this game, but Graf sucks really bad! :haha:

I even sent an email to them, to make a WTA version, they replied, thanking for the suggestion...

Is there top spin 3 for the xbox?

Aaron.
Jun 9th, 2010, 03:51 AM
Top spin 3 is for the Xbox 360.

I've basically gave up on console games for now..all of them aren't that good. Virtua tennis sucked. Top spin was decent the gameplay looked choppy and slow. Smash court 3 is ok but it's not realistic

Like I said try www.managames.com

They have a tennis manager game and a real tennis game WTA included in both.

Sega Sports Tennis 2k on Sega Dreamcast...the gameplay is excellent, smooth, almost like playing real tennis. (plus it has Venus and Serena on there...along with Seles, Davenport, and Pierce) You also can create players, and I make a really good Henin for me to beat up on with my Williams Sisters lol The dreamcast is an old system but honestly this is the best tennis game created...i havent played anything that plays as smooth and realistic as this. You can buy a dreamcast for $25 and the game for $10...maybe cheaper.

I've played the Virtua Tennis and Top Spin series and they are definitely different. Virtua Tennis plays more like a casual arcade game. It's easy to pick up and start playing. Top Spin is more realistic and difficult to play.

Have you tried Full Ace Tennis Simulator?

It’s a great tennis simulation. Graphics is not top level since it is small production game, but GAMEPLAY IS AWESOME. For me, the most important thing is physics of the ball and strikes, and it is just perfect. Also developers of the game are true tennis fans and game is regularly updated very often. Also you can actively participate in forum to give suggestions of how to improve the game.

Game is a bit difficult for new players, but has great tutorial and practice mode. Also there is tournament, season and online mode (online works even for demo mode). In editor you can change players, courts and tournaments.... you can even change physics of the surface!!!

I’m not quite sure, but there is large database with more than 200 players and all tournaments in ATP schedule....it’s not licensed of course, but you can edit or download already edited database.

There is a free demo...

Tennis Elbow is a brilliant game, by far the best. From the looks of Full Ace, if Managames and the makers of Full Ace teamed up, that'd be a sick game. Console wise SCPT2 wins hands down. The tour mode on that game is sickeningly brilliant, especially compared to TS3/4. The only thing that annoyed me during that game was the seeding was all messed up. I'd be World No.1 and face World No.2 in a GS 4R constantly. Oh and how it was literally just about your character. You couldn't see who had won other tournaments at all or whatever, but still the tour was brilliant. I like TS4 more than TS3 cause the gameplay is a bit quicker, but they're both above average, but not great.

TENNIS ELBOW :worship:

If consoles paid any attention to how dedicated and thorough Tennis Elbow is, they would have an oustanding game. Once you get used to the 1980s computer interface and 1990s graphics and all that (easy for me since I grew up with those games) it is a top notch game.

What really impressed me was that on the arcade mode they went the whole extra mile to research alot of players from the days gone by and include all the journeymen and women over they years up to 1,000ish. What other tennis game does that? So much detail. Maybe it's the fact that because they are a small company they can get away with tacking those names on their game. Although they still changed Williams anyway, just in case. :oh:

I gave Full Ace a go, and although I liked the graphics that game is not as easy to pick up and go like TE is. All this prepare left and prepare right and even with automatic set up I still couldn't return the ball :o It took me like 10 minutes to actually hit a ball in the tutorial and I managed two consecutive ones but all of that went to shit straight away. It's good, the graphics are good, I loved how you have the coin toss and choose which side to serve etc. to add that realism, and the challenge system is a great idea which other tennis game developers could use, but it's not as user friendly as TE. So I stand by my original statement. This game, with the players, tournaments and controls of TE would make a virtually unbeatable tennis game.

This game, with the players, tournaments and controls of TE would make a virtually unbeatable tennis game.

Full Ace has 2000 players and more than 500 tournaments, all editable. So the only problem that remains as far as you're concerned is controls.
Me, I can't stand Tennis Elbow's controls. I find them counter intuitive, I hate the fact that if you release the shot button before the actual shot, the ball goes in the center of the court (which means you can always rely on that to put the ball inside the court). Sure, it's a little less frustrating to put the ball in the center of the court than miss it altogether, but I think it's a very small difference. And once you get used to it, it's only a skill game, as the ball will go exactly where you managed to aim.
I also hate that you can't hit a ball after it bounced out. Sure, you'll say it's no use, but it feels scripted. Lastly, it seems the ball always has the same trajectory more or less, always about the same depth, and sometimes (rarely) it goes wide, but just a little. So not enough variety in the rallies to make it anywhere as interesting as real life tennis.
Sure, Full Ace controls need some getting used to, and you really should have an analog pad to really enjoy it. But once you master it, you get rallies like you've never seen in any other game, and believe me, I tested a lot of them !

Nice you gave it a try. I didn't have much trouble learning basic strikes... one button for one strike. Most important thing is to position yourself before hitting the ball... like in real tennis.

I tried TE before and after your comments I tried it again for several hours. I find it quite boring and simple. Control system is just not "tennis like".

I prefer Dream Match Tennis especially with modded courts. The game play is realistic, each player has a lot of variety in their shots, the controls are excellent, and their is enough difficulty to keep you coming back. What I like about the game is each player doesn't serve or hit shots in the same manner like many tennis games.

I also have TE but what annoys me about the game is the controls. I feel like the sim is controlling it rather than me as a player. Their is also no real training feature, it's just you hitting with another player and "practicing". I've played it for a while and it can get sort of boring.

Every player has his own unique shot, every forehand, backhand, even slice have diferent ways for each player, it´s just amazing. Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2 is still the best. Not bad graphics, clunky motions by modern standards but STILL the most realistic/comprehensive pro tour mode. I still play occasionally. The fact you have a proper ranking and have to defend points is perfect. Switch to 'mission' mode to have realistic score lines yet not play the same match for ages. It's pathetic how over a decade on, with next-gen technology, the sim that worked so well is yet to be repeated/improved. My only improvements to it would have been access to a H2H record, and not having 'US Open 2006' every year you compete there advertised :oh:

Had all 4 Grand Slams AND Fed/Davis Cup. I also loved how you could play more than 1 tourney per month (like real life) and you could play through the Qualies of a slam if your ranking wasn't high enough. I enjoyed skipping half the season and letting my ranking fall to like 70s and then coming back and winning slams and big tourneys. Still my favorite "World Tour" mode of any game.

Top Spin 4 has the best game play and controls but I despise how limited the "Career" mode is and I also hate that you have to either choose to be powerful or fast, you can never have a good amount of both with the way they make coaches contribute to your attributes. I still play this game weekly though.

i actually remember a game in the pre-windows era (i've been playing that until XP came along, which does not support this game anymore), which i still believe is the most entertaining and real tennis game i've ever played, especially when it comes to timing, hitting the ball, it just looks so real and natural compared with ALL current ones with fancy graphics

Well, there is a mode for WTA, but I don't know how good it is, I didn't try it. It's a megapatch for both WTA and ATP. (ATP/WTA MegaPatch by Dilima V.2.2.1). It's obviously not as good as ITST :)

Oh, how disappointing

One thing I do like about Top Spin 4 is that it is fairly simple to make realistic players that aren't already in the game.

There are even some people who have posted online the "blueprint" for creating players like Hingis, Venus, Sharapova, Mauresmo, Davenport etc.

I use Virtua Tennis most of the time. None of the players are real, but the graphics are really good and gameplay is similar to the video games. Quite a well done tennis game for the iPad.

Gachinko Tennis is horrible :hysteric: It wouldn't respond properly so I miss like all of the balls, and then when I'd serve I wouldn't even angle it or anything and it'd hit the baseline

Love this game. I do get a bit peeved when I get overtaken in the ranking for being a bit lazy with non slams though :oh:

Mission mode is great in the slams too. Though it can be your absolute worst nightmare when playing Roddick or Serena on grass. :sobbing:

Also I love the spectator mode. I'm a bit sad and like to put up players against each other.

Playing someone from Top 8 when being ranked outside Top 30/50 in mission mode was so fucking hard. First mission was at 3-6, 2-4* and it was generally "win a return game from Ad-40" :o Oh, and playing 5 players from Top 10 in one Slam :o
But being No.2 or No.3 with all 4 Slams won - hilarious

But I still love this game. 8 seasons unbeaten and 32 Slams won in a row :hearts:

I recently purchased Topspin 4 english version PS3. I really seen some poor games on the backs of real sporting events, But This, to me, is now one of my all time greatest games for PS3. I play mainly online games like SWTOR BF3 etc.

As a recent converted disciple to The ever emotional Sabine, hence my Nick name, "BoomBoom" :D , Topspin 4 allows me to almost duplicate her as her, even down to her Yonex racket and bag she brings on the virtual courts. All Nike fitted outfits on her at moment. I just won my first tournament tonight, being the "Houston Open". I love that I can put XP points onto her gaming style, which Is offensive baseline play and power serve, but Im working on improving defense from baseline and volleys. very realistic scenery, and game play is a joy, I play on normal mode, on Career path, on real Tennis mode, On our HD PS3 connection to my 32 inch television, Its a job to get me off the sofa. :) The customization is whats makes this game, and the audio effects are simply the best I seen programed into a sporting game. gamespot review gave it a 9/10 and Im not surprised.

Sabine, Will take a huge amount of experience away with her from Wimbledon. Getting to be a finalist at a major is no mean feat, and what she needs to do now, is work on trying to conserve her emotions, which Im sure in time she will. Dont forget, This was a huge occasion, Ms Bartoli, just took that knowledge and rushed her into losing the first set. Sabine has beaten Ms Bartoli before, she just lost it on the occasion on one of the biggest stages of Lawn tennis, But she can hold her head up high and pat herself on the back, for coming back from very bad injuries in 2009.

new member today, hope to have plenty of input in the forums in the future

I still play this game weekly though.I loved that!
I remember I could only reach No. 1 with my creation of Delpo, after winning the Davis Cup! and win like 8 Slams! and I only miss RG, I had once MP against Ferrero :sad::lol:
I also remember make Venus! and sometimes they placed me to play with Serena in FC :hearts:

now single game Top Spin 4 and is really fantastic! less career mode ...
and I'm waiting for the Top Spin 5 with Aga, Petra, Delpo, Berdy and Richie! addition to the challenge (like SCT 3) and to choose no tie-break in the final set! and improved career mode of course! ;);)

@SabineMachine,

Well, Im hogging the Living room,With Top spin 4 playing three set matches, while partner spends some time on computer doing facebook and her little games, But I could do with a PC based game too, so she can watch her fave TV programs. I downloaded The Demo version of "Tennis Elbow", its fair to say, there is hardly any options until you buy the game, I take it you can name a player as in TS4? Rather weird, that it seems to play on its own, It doesn't wait for to serve, it just does it?? Even in the Demo version, theres a whole load of pages with stats you can change. Why does your character move by itself? Its like your only in control of the actual shots and very limited movement. Crowds seem to me and the audio, not as immersing as TS4. There is more detail on ball, and where it lands, especially like seeing them deep onto a service line, with shadow, Didnt see a replay button, but being demo, no idea. Seemed to play ok, with no stutter or lag. I guess the depth of the amount of players, matches, Tournaments, downloadable content and online play, is more than TS4.

I got a net caught today, on TS4 which dribbled over, and nice animation, Where Sabine (me) held up her hand to acknowledge the incident.

But to be honest, I want to move my character around the court myself, not be auto guided. At any rate, unless I use a game pad, I would struggle to play this on a keyboard, because I have quite bad Thumb/finger arthritic joints, which means I cant always use the keyboard for a long time.

Let me know how you find the full version SabiMachine:)?

On TS4 I just won a gruelling semifinal with a fellow German player (me being Lisicki) 6-3 6-7 6-1 It dont seem that way by the score, But had to work hard to make sure held my serve in third set, and break straightaway. I play the Ukraine Final tonight .lol I do hope, that Im not going to keep having repeated old players, I have already beaten showing up. But this is early days yet. maybe this is a good time to learn TS4 if a newer version is on the cards. never played TS3 so cant compare the two versions.

Well let you all get on with your day guys :wavey:

Full Ace Looks good, But The sheer amount of literally hundreds of Modifications, to me, make it less likely your going to play the game, and more, like keep going back to mod screens. As an Oldie, lmho, I prefer, what I feel, is a about the right amount of mods in TS4. I have tennis elbow Demo, But will try this demo too, so can compare. Pity, there isnt an online version Of TS4 on Ps3, would have liked to run an ethernet cable from my virgin media modem, and set up a secondary connection for PS3. Do any of these PC games allow a normal game pad to be used, as cant use keyboard actions for to long because of arthritis? In the utube Videos, cant help feeling the service action is a little unorthodox, almost like How marion Bartoli serves?^^

Regarding a couple of your questions, I bought the full version of the game off the same website you download the demo from.

Also regarding players moving by themselves I think you can change how much assistance you get in the settings, I haven't played the game much yet though so don't know that much about it.

And you can use a ps3 controller on your pc but you need to download a program to be able to do it, if you search how to use a ps3 controller on pc on youtube there's videos that show you how

Thanks Bine:) Look into The game pad issue, when I have got through some of my career on TS4.:)

Ohhh! Got a question, Just seen a reviewer on Utube showing Virtua tennis and PS3 TS4 set up and game differences. At end of a match he was showing, for TS4, the umpire Said "game to Nadal". Im constantly annoyed that My umpire wont call me by my player name, only "Player1" which really is one thing that I dont like in TS4.:(

So, Am I missing a menu, to make the umpire say "game To Lisicki", which logically it should, since the two player names are on the board. saying "Player1 leads 4-1, makes me cringe, as its a bit like the old retro games of yesteryear, however, This umpire DID say game to Nadal, so obviously its enabled somewhere??

Would really like to get that sorted if possible, any ideas guys?

Well, in that case, Why did the CPU call" Game to Nadal" if, you say its not possible? Unless its only capable of generating Top player built in announcements, Buts thats a bit lame, if your only called Player1, when your Wifred Tsonga.

What difficulty do people use on tennis elbow?

My first career I started on Junior sub level 10 and I was getting double bagelled/breadsticked in the first few matches

Started again and have been increasing it every few matches, currently at junior sub level 4, I'm guessing I should just keep scaling it as my stats increase, also guessing the fact I'd only played the game for about 20 minutes before starting my first career didn't help

Last time I played, I think I was on the second highest level at 10, and would occasionally drift in to the lower part of the top difficulty depending on my opponent. Then again, this was after building my character up.

@VMAC, No, Those trophy's are mini display ones, 5 inches high, There's proper mini trophy's too like A wimbledon trophy. The only trophy's you get in game in TS4 is the odd virtual achievement. The mini trophy's only cost around £5+. The seller on EBay is ( 1stplace4trophiesandgifts ). Wont add a link in case its against tennis Forum rules!

Returning to game play, well, advice in reviews of TS4 is to open your career in normal mode, Which I have done, although Im quite up on tactics, For me, at my age, I will probably do my first year on normal, and go one up, in 2012 season. Last night played the hamburg Semi's and Then came across a much better player,in the Final, think she was from Peru, wears a woven type cap. Now she was same level as me 14, but Her forehand and backhand stats were +5 above mine (Sabines Main Assets). She certainly gave me a much better match, I lost the first set 7-5 because She was passing me, wrong footing me with some ease! Second set, I Had to step up and serve power serve each time, to send to back of court, so I could run in and put an easy volley away. second set went my way, But third set, she started passing me again, and I was 0-3 down, before breaking her serve with some really intense 35 stroke rally's, I clawed my way back to 3 all in the third, but she broke my serve once again, But I remained focused despite the damn heatwave :D She got weaker by the time I had her at 5-3, and kept pounding balls back into every corner, eventually winning 6-3. With my fingers and joints affected by Arthritis, I have to keep into perspective, what level of play to use, If I go for too hard a level, my fingers, will get so painful, that I wont be able to keep playing to many long matches. In some respects, that's why I havent gone into the mens tournaments, because I would never be able to complete a 5 set match, without taking a lot of painkillers, which I dont really want to do. Unfortunately, not many people understand that keyboard typing or holding and pressing PS3 contoller buttons is extremely painful on Arthritic Joints for extended periods, which is why I find normal mode woman's Career, matches my own ability to be able to use multiple buttons at same time, for a reasonable time, without undue aggravation to my inflammation. I liked the Munich Chamionships, Won that also. I see how it goes, Im nearly ready to enter the Masters matches.:)

You can do it Aga:angel:

Im in October now,lvl 15 Playing the final of the Argentina Open tonight. Probably the next level grade up , is going to be an eye opener for you. If I do try changing to a higher level, It wont be until I have played against some of the star players, that Im likely to come across, maybe even in the Masters, that will be open to me, if I complete the 3/3 major titles won, by winning the Argentine Final tonight.

GO Aga! Go! Sabine!

Team AGA, Meet Team Lisicki  Well thats what Im having printed on the back of "Love Lisicki" T shirt.

My other T shirt arrived today in post, its so nice, I had to share it with you, unfortunately haven't my own camera at moment, so pic is from online Seller.

Sorry about your loss to Roddick, But seems strange score Aga? Aren't you playing real tennis mode, best of 5 or 3 for ladies? If you had played the real tennis mode, you may have had time to get into your stride and start reading his game, Its like a Tie break, which, I have a habit of losing sometimes, let a few points go to opponent, make a few unforced errors, and before you know it, your facing match point against you, as in real life. I think playing anything other than real tennis rules, is not really going to bring the best out for you in TS4?. I assume this is TS4? A medical research exhibition match I played this morning was different, that was a 20 point Tie break game. I was 5-11 down on that at one point, and have to serve volley hard to square off, then went on to win.

Well I am in my first Masters tournament at Shanghai, Won Quarters, now face semis later, when it gets cooler RL:fiery:
If anybody would like to know where to get The T shirt please send me Private message:wavey:

I have played a full length doubles match when i started, thankfully i won in two, as i was using my created person (me) in game without any stat addition. it was hell!

I've done that hyper tie break thing, cruised through it but its only on normal, since i've never played a tennis game before now!

Oh, when i started career mode i didn't realise i had to change the game style, i just wanted to get started, that is why i am doing it in the current mode :p I had him on the run, top spin shots to each corner had his stamina bar gone and it was how i was able to win most of my points. In the end his aces and my ability to wrong foot myself didn't help

Now i'm up agains Djokovic in the "Dublin" open, tackle that tomorrow when i am fresh

Aha, im 100% Team Aga :worship:

:haha: "Wrong footing myself", Done that a few times, The ones I really hate, are those which float right at your feet, and keep going past you:tape:

Yes , Career mode , picking "Real tennis" as default mode to play it, gives you a much better chance to settle down and get into a match. My first matches were very up and down, 6-1 4-6 6-4 +++ 5-7 6-2 6-4. These longer matches, give you as a player, a lot more Experience to go on and really have confidence to play shots, that your not that good at yet. My attempted Drop shots are still embarrassing :haha: After December 2011 season ends, which I am nearly at, 2012 will be played at next level up. Because even my First Masters with my opponent, with most of her attributes almost in the red, I still trounced her 6-0 6-2. I hope you can change the hardness level at end of the year, as haven't tried changing it yet.

The Dublin Open I saw briefly, when I started TS4, but was unavailable to me, first year. Looks like a cool venue that:D best of luck against Doki:D
,
"Team Lisicki" try's to bribe "Team Agi" with Cookies.

Hey!, wouldnt it be cool, if you could play me, As Sabine, now level 16 online. I have no idea if TS4 ps3 has online play, some said it didn't have an online play mode, it that correct? On another note, I walked on to a court to do a minor event last week, and the B**** on the other side, decided to wear the very same outfit of me, needless to say, I bundled her off court asap. Now I several new outfits from sponsors, I mix and match,so hopefully no more copy cats :D

Talk about irony, I just changed my level to "hard" on TS4, and guess who my opponent was in the Semi finals Of the Shanghai masters. yes, none other than Serena, with her grunts and little calls she makes when ball goes out. I really thought my Time had come to hang up my racket for this semi, But Sabine did it again:bounce:

Even though Serena's serve was hard to break in second set, Plodded on using her power on my returns and booming it back into a corner with a bit extra, won quite a few points using that tactic. So , strange result, 6-0 5-7 6-2 on hard level. I now play Ana Ivanovic,in the final, who to be honest, I don't know too well.

Looks like's hard lvl is not so hard, when you have mastered better timing and placements in TS4 See what next few days bring.

have a great Weekend be back again soon:wavey:

Yeah pity, cant make a tournament "Tennis Forum Team Speak" team and play TS4 online with members who want to enter.

But today I have my own problems, was going out today, so that got cancelled last minute, so thought I finish of the year, by completing The Shangai Master Event. However, something has gone disastrously wrong. You may remember In my last post, I beat Serena in the Quarters 6-0 5-7 6-2 on Hard level.

Ok, To me that wasn't the sort of result I should be getting, after all she is TS ranking number 1.

My next opponent was Ana Ivanovic in the final, I didnt want a whitewash, so I put hard level up again to "very hard".

But Im thinking there's something wrong with the way this game works out, just what is normal, hard, very hard?

This Ana Ivanovic had roughly same stats as Serena, but The way she player was insane, I got the racket on the ball twice in two sets, leaving me crying into my racket like Sabine losing 6-0 6-0

So end of the year I had two minor tournaments Available, so thought I would play one, and recap 2011 Season.

Imagine my dismay, that reducing back from "very hard" to "hard level" , a level 5 in the quarters of this event against me, level 17, Again blew me of court, 6-0 6-1. I mean Cmon!!!!???

If I beat Serena Williams on hard level 6-0 7-5 6-2, how in the hell can a rank 5 player with 35% less attributes than Serena beat me. It don't make any logical sense whatsoever.

Although my end of season ranking was better than I thought, being hard court champ, us champ and Euro champ, Im now facing January 2012 with defending My Houston Title, But Im really quite P**** off, because I don't want whitewash "normal" mode wins, But If I defend my Houston Title on hard level, For some unknown glitchy reason,to me, Im unlikely to win,or even get through the quarter finals.

I don't understand How I beat Serena On "hard" level But lost to a newbie lvl 5 player one month later at a minor Tournament... If TS4 is unable to differentiate between a lvl 17 player against a lvl 5, But allows me to win against the Number 1 in the world, then I will probably try another game that has more intelligent ways of matching players attributes. confused.com is me today:sad:

Aga , I feel your pain.:(

This is one reason I never did Play sports games, because the Developers, Just cant make difficulty Grades in decent increments.:fiery:

I have taken TS4 off for the time being, because it just isnt adding up at all.

When I first started playing, totally Flat skills attributes on Normal, against a player very similar to me, I learnt a lot on the academy and practice for hours for 2 days before I even played one game.

OK Lets look at why These difficulty levels dont work.

First tournament 2011 normal Houston. Won that 6-2 6-2

OK next year 2012;

My Stats: level 17 rising star

FH 75 +10 baseline skill
BH 50
SVE 75
VOL 46
PW 63
ST 64
SP 57
REF 54

Against player level 7 same as last year roughly

FH 51
BH 56
SRV 52
VOL 34
PWR 60
SPD 34
REF 39

AT same tournament to defend my title "Houston"

now I play hard level against a weak opponent, But The weak player is now playing way above her actual passable skill.
Its like a real ranked 100 in the world is now playing dream tennis like a Navratilova .

she won the first game by aces alone, thats not on, seeing her serve is 52 and mines 75, allowing the difference from normal to hard.
On my serve, which is what I have been loading up at 75, It was quite useless even serving a variety of power serves, as, It seemed I was stopped from moving from trying to reach returns that a level 8 newcomer player would be quite incapable of making, as her FH is a lowly 51 against my 75+ skill feature. I only got my racket on the ball twice in that match losing 6-0 6-0

This morning played February and March, and exactly the same result against players vastly low in Stats, But idiotically superior in every part of play, in the end, I knew after I was again losing 6-0 first set, I just Threw the towel in in the others, The crowd can Boo! I dont Care:fiery: because its not a level playing field. My stats should be matched to Hard level agreed, but not to the extent that the ranked lvl 8 player becomes suddenly Serena Williams overnight. I mean I been working on keeping unforced errors down, when I first played I was doing 20 a match, now thats down to about 5-7 a match, I very rarely double fault. But Sabines been slowed down to such a degree, that its almost impossible to get her quick enough to hit the ball back, let alone make any winners. It like your moving her into position to intercept a fast return, But however fats you move her, say right, she just stays still for almost 1 second, and the return just goes past miles past you, before you can even move her.

Given that my speed is 57 and hers is only 34, There is no possible way that she play 50-60% faster than me. Allowing for being on hard level, logically, she may be able to muster 47 speed. But shes flying around the court like a kangaroo on heat, and really, this has killed the enjoyment of the game, because I dont play normal, and trounce players 6-2 6-2 each time, but conversely I would like to get my racket actually on to a ball on hard level:smash:

For the time being, I look or try some other PS3 tennis games:(

Hi, well Im back to square one, since finding out my Xmas 2012 pressie Ps3 Cant install more than 2 and a half games. ??

To load 3 new games I recently bought, had to sell this 12gig one at a loss, and go to Argos and get a 500 gig H/D one. So since I lost all my Topspin 4 data, had to reinstall it, and start over, so Im on Normal again, at level 7 career, but doing ok.

Aga, To my knowledge, when I bought TS4 from Amazon, reviewers were saying it didnt have an online mode, so I haven't really bothered to drill the hole between bedroom ( Where modem is) into living room, for the 30 foot Ethernet extension cable I bought a few months ago to connect the PS3.

If its true, TS4 has an on-line mode, then, over the weekend I will get the cable done and make an account on PS3. Then, by all means Im willing to take part in some on-line matches. I only play real tennis 3 sets or 5 sets, Not into the 6 games, and you win scenarios, Just letting you know you my preferences thats all. fancy Pova pulling out of US Open, But think most here, thought it on the cards after the Conners fiasco.

Sounds like me with online play, some of the returns i get back i have no hope in hell of returning! lost 10 straight games online, not even winning a game :help: only usually got 3-5 points a set! then i finally beat someone, poor bloke from Macedonia who was using a player with no special skills :p only other wins i got were from disconnects. I think the ball marker not being active in online play has thrown me a bit, as i was relying on it a bit too much to see where the next shot was going, as opposed to reading the player! oh well practice makes perfect:angel:

Im up to level 12 again in career, but no idea How online Play works? But, can guess Disconnects are a pain. I did see some Google/U tube stuff of Online TS4 play, seems to be quite popular. A.I. players, get rather predictable in how they move or make shots, especially on normal mode.

This evening I make a start on hopefully trying to move a B*** big wardrobe away from bedroom wall, and the large DVD Unit from living room, and at least get the cable through, then sometime morrow, clip the extension on skirting board and back of TV unit along with the countless other Wires , into the PS3, When I set up a ps3 account, I let you know,

Do you know if you have to pay to use a connection, to play online games, I mean does Sony charge for playing online, sorry bit vague, But never had a console connected to the net before:rolleyes:

See you soon hopefully:cool:

Ahh, tonight i came the closest, i was playing as Dinara (as always) and the opponent was Nadal. This guy wasn't power serving, or smacking it with much power at all, it was almost like i was playing myself, though i thought i had the advantage. Well i got to 40-0 on his serve and blew it, i was just hitting ue at a stupid rate, usually cross court BH just going out ( but they look in :( )

So there were a few games like this, i am making all the play and in every point but just couldn't get there (never got a game before, only started yesterday online though) so to say i was frustrated that the score was 0-3 0-2 despite this guy being the weakest i had played was to put it mildly. Well maybe that sparked something, cause to my amazement i reeled off the next 4 games to win that set 4-2! I was right back in it! Then it was super tie break, and sadly i got pipped 10-8. But considering no games the night before to a set tonight, improvement!!

Hahah, sorry bit of a ramble there. And no, PSN internet is free to use :) and you will see how bad i am if we get a game going haha

Sounds Fascinating Aga, :D Me and my partner already shifted some furniture away from wall, sadly The virgin Hole, where they pushed the ext telephone cable in, plus the main fibre optic cable into bedroom, is tiny, As I have to get an Ethernet plug into a larger hole, its time to get the Big boy drill piece out again, 12inch long masonry drill, luckily its not a main house connecting wall, where the bricks are like solid concrete, so hopefully it wont be to hard to get through.

So should all be done by Midday morrow.

Dont forget you will be playing Sabine, (aka me) so bring along a box of hankies in case I need them:lol: I jest of course:tape:

Dont you dare Copy My Wardrobe , haha One A.I. player had the cheek to walk on court with MY exact Dress on. One things for sure, we, at least start at a level pegging in being newcomers to Online play, I only have one player at this time, I will make another , But changing consoles, and restarting Sabine's Career, plus some time out in the sun lately, haven't had time.

My partner plays a jewel quest online, not the same obviously as TS4, But her scores and disconnects can vary greatly, suppose its all down to servers and bottle necks.

Rambles are allowed, no problems :D

I've played so many tennis games that I cannot name all of them right now :D

The best were:

1) Top Spin - great courts, nice career gameplay, cool graphics for the times it was released.

2) Tennis Elbow 2013 - but I am playing mostly ATP modded by myself, with more than 2500 players from period 2003-2013, with all challengers and atp events, plus much more futures. With over 450 real faces, 100 different forehands, 80 backhands, 90 services and other stuff :D

3) Tennis Masters Series - that game was just great, not important that any player was licensed. I've spent many hours playing it :)

4) Virtua Tennis 2009 - to me, it's the best in the whole series.

5) Virtua Tennis for IPhone - pretty nice and quite addictive

6) Roland Garros 2001 - courts! the rest wasn't that good

7) All Star Tennis - spent many hours playing it against my friend :)

8) Anna K. Smash Court Tennis - funny

9) Top Spin for GBA

10) and the last top10 game i've played was a game I had on my SE phone, it was developed by gameloft, but can't memorise its name right now.

I find serving wide to corner sides of service court, on power serve, Once mastered, puts most players way out of court, alllowing you to come near net and put away a Normal stroke shot/ vollley into opposite court. Had a good match at Casablanca Final today, A.I player was good volleyer, but, I soon started to use modifed Lobs, that went over her head, But once she was at net with you, I only had a 50% chance of getting the ball past her, but did do it a few times. As say haven't tried Online yet, working on that cable right now. I think tactics will probably play a bigger part of online play, Wrong footing, mixing up slow slices with a Power shot thrown in suddenly, especially taken early will bring some results. I always come forward on Second serve, It certainly pays for me, taking ball early and power baseline shot, down the line or power sliced, gets me some points, But, on the minus side 20% of them will go out. I find I dont take much notice now, if it says "To early" or "to late", because, many times, I have had to take a ball very early, before other player recovers their stance.

One big unknown, Im going to find out soon, is Just how the connection will affect how soon one or the other can react, Im lucky to have really quick reflexes rl. But I also have Fiber optic broadband, now whether, Thats going to make any difference inside the PS3 on play against someone using a "Phone line" Broadband connection I dont know, even a wireless connection is different, so bound to be a lot of weird stuff happening, until you get used to playing online. Im very green in that respect. I play PC based online combat, EA games, Call of duty and SWTOR

This is a whole new ball game, and Its time to go drilling now, catch you later:wavey:

Cant wait to try it, but may be I wont, and may be bundled of court holding my hankie:haha:

Image says it all, both -1 in our winners to ue, but i had a much higher first serve, and was able to take my break chances well, and defend them even better! Oh and i didn't choke

Feel better now, knowing i am not the worst player on here ever and there will be SOME players i can beat!

If you're looking for something more arcade-like then Virtua Tennis would be a great choice. If you want a more realistic tennis game then I'd go with Top Spin 4. Both are great games!!!

After spending 2 sweating hours trying to get another 30 feet Ethernet cable through a drilled hole with mess everywhere, The sign up part of the Network is a nightmare, no wonder it says put a keyboard in, I cant as cooling fan is plugged in one the controller charging in the other. Its like signing up for damn American Express card instead of a game:mad:

Finally we both agreed on user name, and of course, wouldn't you know it, "Already taken"! back to the daft on screen key pad again. Then It wouldnt take an ID. had to go into guides. Thats where I found out, that your ID is not just any old user name, its an email address, But I dont want to use my email address for a console, After another hour had passed, All the names, celebs names, or anything else got an error, Why is there not a PS3 email address?

Another two hours battling through personal details was very hard, because I wanted to put a fictitious name and address, I don't give personal details out unless Im buying online on the PC In any case, I dont have a bank account, all My disability money has to go into my missus's account, because banks wont give visa current accounts to people like me.:(

So at the moment we have stalled making an account, because its full of iffs and whys, and Sony will use my data anyway it likes, which I will not sign up to. Still looking into this, but shattered/ tired from this afternoons hard work.

On top of this, I let an update be installed Topspin 4, I cocked that up twice, I never use any of the stuff that's on a PS3 up till now, only to install 2 games , so its a huge nightmare to navigate millions of settings and stuff. Worse of all, Topspin4 said it needed to install this update, thought, that cant be so bad.:confused:

How wrong I was:fiery: It completely ruined my player, making her so weak, In the semi final I just played before going to bed soon, Some AI player, was winning instead of me, all my shots started going out, on same settings as before, The opposition, moved over, instead of staying where she was, I never got one bloody game in the second set. Im hopping mad, because My game play has been totally altered, and I only updated it, because I thought I was getting extra content.

Looks like I be taking off Topspin 4 again  and reinstall again, without the ridiculous update. and disconnect the broadband, its more trouble than its worth, especially as we wont be presenting any billing information for any purchases, which anyway are twice the price than Amazons!!

^Congrats Aga -^;^- On your win, happy for you, :bounce:^

But sorry, Playstation Network is too intrusive, and cumbersome, Its wants real names, real house addresses, real Email addresses from My PC. Im not prepared to do that, its only a games console for heavens sake:banghead:

Wish you best of luck with your Online play, anyway:)

Andy.

I've finished study for the year so hopefully I'll have it done by Christmas. All I have to do now is assign all the players different outfits etc but it's very time consuming.

It's almost impossible to play them really. It takes a right combo of clicks at the right time.Drive volleys are extremly hard too.

Volleying is quite hard. Set the opponent to master or higher. Go into the Warm-up mode. More often than not in game the AI hits 70-80 percent crosscourt. For controlled volleys (b1), move to where you think the ball will be hit, hold the shot button and make sure to press the down button and then use the left and right direction keys (in quick succession). After that shot release shot button next position and then do the above again. For drive volleys (b1+b2) don't press the down arrow (unless, just used left and right keys. Normally hit a controlled volley to the corner maybe from 25 percent inside the service-area (positioned on the center-line) and them move up to the middle of the service area (50 percent in).

How do you play drop volleys on tennis elbow? I just can't figure it out.

Press hold slice (b2) button, press up key and then direction (left or right). The direction is otherwise the ball will fly out. All being very close to net increases you're chances of taking the ball higher.

Top Spin 4 is probably the best I have played. The controls/mechanics probably are the most 'realistic' of any tennis game, and the game also includes most of the greats from both the men's and women's sport as playable characters, Serena/Federer/Wozniacki/Nadal/Sampras etc. plus you can create your own custom players if your fave wasn't relevant enough to be included by the developers.

The best 3 games for me:

1. Top Spin 4 - The only thing this game missing is the right stroke motions for the players. Only Nadal's strokes looks similar to his strokes in real life.

2. Virtua Tennis 3 - The have the right stroke motions for every player. Same with Virtua Tennis 2009 but I preferred VT 3's gameplay.

3. Top Spin 3 - I loved the risk shot thing.

TE is good but I hate using Keyboard to play it.
