Don't use the age of hers as an excuse..When Sharapova was 19 years old she had 2 Slams under her belt and 1 Slam Final!!Number 1 in the world and of course 6 Slam Semifinals..

Yeah, Maria has not beaten a top 40 player all year. Keep those comparisons away from the world #3

poor Maria is crippled these days. Just wait for Queen Wozniacki to have a serious leg/knee/hig injury/surgery and she won't be beating many top40 players anymore either :(

Wertheim just said she is damaged goods for the last 2 years.
She was a great player before the rotator cuff, but now, I dont know. we'll see as the year goes on.

Wertheim's quote -
Still plagued by shoulder trouble, Maria Sharapova has been damaged goods for more than two years and her pullouts include Miami and Charleston.

As if her comments affected someone we all know Pushniacki will never be as good as Maria. And Sharapova is still a great player she will prove that to your pusher cant' wait for another meeting.

Its good for the sport if Maria does well. But she hasnt gotten past the 3rd round in any of the last 4 majors. Caro has a final and QF in the last 4

You can't remember Sukova, because EVERYBODY knows that perennial Top 10 players who don't win slams have their names purged from the record books the second they retire, and all their fans are killed so that their loathsome, failure, sucky names don't depress us!

Mr.Sharapova
Jun 8th, 2010, 08:21 PM
The only thing I'm sorry about now for Maria is that she is forced to Enter these small tournaments just to get match practice under her belt for a while but I'm happy in a way knowing that Caroline won't stop playing them ever cause she has to retain that number 3 position in a way

Caro isn't playing well at all she is just taking advantage of her cakedraw. Maria's match against Henin was so good, the previous ones too she is not far from her level I know Caro can only dream about matches like this.

goldenlox

Caro lost 6-4 in the 3rd to Henin in Miami, after making the IW final.
I thought Maria looked better against Henin then her losses to Kirilenko and Zheng.
I'm guessing she switched to synthetic strings, but almost everyone else is also switching.
The FO was a win for new strings, and everyone is going to want that advantage also

:lol: Yeah I don't know where these idiots get this idea that the only thing in the record books is slam winners - do they ever google? And think that we'll all have amnesia and won't remember any player after they retire if they haven't won a slam. But they sure keep parrotting out this tripe.

She pulled out of Miami and Charleston with a elbow injury, not shoulder.
Caro lost 6-4 in the 3rd to Henin in Miami, after making the IW final.
Henin played like shit in that match. Cakewalk draw in IW.
I'm guessing she switched to synthetic strings, but almost everyone else is also switching.

:spit: How the eff would you know such things?I know that both Fran and Stosur switched to synthetics. Maria had time off after the elbow injury. I'm guessing that they are looking for rackets and strings that dont put extra pressure on her shoulder and elbow.
But I dont know.

In history I would put Helena Sukova(4 Grand Slam singles finals and former number 3) followed by Dementieva(current Olympic champion),Jankovic(former number 1),Safina(former number 1) and maybe Mary Jo Fernandez...

I only really got into tennis a couple of years ago, but at the moment i'd say probably Jankovic.
