that was lucky for rybarikova, she will not be defending her title if she doesn't pick up her form. god she's so streaky but beautiful to watch when her game is on

1st and foremost I hope whatever happened to Regina wasn't too serious and her Wimbledon participation will not be put in jeopardy.

As for Magda, I'm not too alarmed about her dropping the 1st set. Regina is a tough 1st round opponent and Magda had dropped her 1st set twice when winning the title last year. At the time of the injury, Magda was actually winning more points against serve than her opponent and winning more opportunities to break too. But Regina did hang on very well in those big points. I still do feel had Regina not gotten injured Magda would still have had a very good shot at winning this match. But we will regrettably never know that for sure now.

That was a very lucky win for Magdalena... I hope she finds her grass form now and reaches the QF or SF. Defending the title will be vey difficult.

well, who did say Kulikova win this match, magda was break up in 2nd set... :p... still could win the match..... i think Magda will show her great performance on grass in upcoming matches on grass... probably even in Wimbledon... with her serve and volleys can do really great results.... :p

Please defend your title Magda! :bigcry:

I hope this match will be a signal for Magda to improve her game next match against Makarova. No one could tell what would happen but without that injury the defending champion could already be out :tape:

what happened to regi?

Saw the first set then came back for the last game. First set Kulikova was very fortunate to win, she'd struggled to hold serve in multiple games and Magda was doing her with variety and movement. Brainfart at 6-5, came out and made a couple of UEs and never recovered. Regina did start playing well around 4-4 and got much more aggressive, especially off the return when she could. Prior to that I've no idea how she hung in there.

With the injury it came out of nowhere, she'd seemed okay on a point she lost at deuce then couldn't jump up on her serve and hit it in the middle of the net. Then she did the same thing again, basically a standing overhead with no jump and it went in the net and she was in tears before she even reached the service line. Her back it seemed. She was in floods afterwards, Mags went over to check on her and put her hand on her shoulder, it was a horrible thing to watch because Regina was so distraught.

For the comments about Magda being unimpressive, etc., based off the result I saw all of her first 3 matches here last year and all round she looked better. Less random errors, good shot selection in general, *excellent* movement in comparison - certainly better than the Scheepers match last year and as said, unlucky not to have done better in that first set.

I think Regi has the potential to be a top player, but only if her injuries stay far away.

Magda :tape: Please pick up your game and get this year started finally! You can do it :rocker2:

Poor Regina, she couldn't have asked for tougher first round matches lately. Safarova, Sharapova and last week Schiavone.
She has so much potential but these draws and injuries are really holding her back. She would've gone on to win this one I think.

Poor Regi. I just hope everything is ok with her back.. No more Tatis please.
