Schiavone's GS win was long overdue in this respect. For the last several years the Williams sisters and the Belgians have been supporting women's tennis entirely on their shoulders due to failures of Generation Suck. So it was great to see two veteran players not from Generation Suck moving in and fill the gap.

Serena's success sometimes obscures the fact that there is parity now. Serena may have won 2 of the last 5 slams, but of the 10 possible spots, we have had 9 finalists.
