I'm really wondering if some of you use Dementievas "ischna" or Justines "allez" or sharapovas/serenas "come on" or what ever in non-tennis life? To underline your success or something like that...

I began to speak like Dementieva or Safina when i'm not contented or when i play tennis and make a lot of mistakes although i can't speak russian...

Or do you use those words when you play tennis?

It's a difference between "allez" or jujus "allez" for example.
I really mean to words in the way the tennis players use them...

Dementieva says " Otlichno " , which roughly means good. It's pronounced something like " Lichna ".

I find myself using ajde in non-tennis life

I yell "HAIL WINGIS" when I hit good shots and off the court as well when something good happens.

I think it "Otilichna!" And it means "Excellent!"

I usually "Come on!" more along the lines of "Oh, come ON!" when I've made some ghastly UE. It's the opposite of celebrating. I do a stupid little hop when I hit a nice winner and don't say anything.

I use ajde all the time. When I get frustrated I start swearing in Russian or Afrikaans or I say an ajde of despair. This is in non-tennis life AND tennis life.

If anything, I mutter to myself "damnit" or "focus ffs." Because I only start talking to myself when i lose concentration lol.

When I hit winners and/or win important points, I usually shout "Yeah" which usually sounds like I'm climaxing and fistpump about 50 times a match.

Petkorazzi
Jun 6th, 2010, 07:39 PM
I don't really fistpump day in day out, but once I get into the match, if I stare shoting " Come on " in my language I can't stop. It helps me keep my intensity and the momentum.

I normally yell common, but occasionaly POME (slang in my language)-just to confuse the english ones LOL

And I always have my first weirdly clinched at tense moments. No words, just to hype myself up

I only do it when I'm playing a tense match and I get upset. Most of the matches I play, I'm silent. For some reason, I just think it's not nice to the opponents. Unless of course I hate my opponent and I'm upset. :p

Jun 7th, 2010, 12:02 AM
I think it's a way to show they emotions and commitment to the game
It's nothing bad about. If players don't find them annoying. It's alright :)

I use Come on when Kimiko wins a point :D

I often say 'ajde' if we get a question right at the pub quiz. Unfortunately it doesn't really have the same effect when I try to explain what it means. They just look at me blankly because none of them follow tennis! :p

I prefer davai out of all the c'mons though. :)

when im playing against friends and trying to be a complete wanker i scream ALLEZ or VAMOS after points.
but besides a few fistpumps at crucial times, i think you are a total dickhead if you are screaming stuff like that in non-professional tennis. i play both social and pennant and when people do it we all just laugh and think how sad they are.

Usually I give a moderate right leg half kick with an uppercut right hand jab, with a nice twirl thrown in for good measure, in unison with an "ajde" after I finish releasing my bowels.

In non-tennis life, I say "Vamos" a lot.

I just say ajde randomly some days not during tennis.. Haha and I know no Serbian whatsoever, just from tennis. I just like the word because I really don't care much for JJ or Ana. But when I play other sports I always say come on to myself... Normally quietly. I don't like to be loud.

Potato
Jun 7th, 2010, 04:28 AM
I do the "wipe face with towel motion" after points sometimes. :o I have no idea why, JJ's antics have gotten to me.

Jun 7th, 2010, 04:33 AM
I scream come on after winning a long point or hitting an outright winner, but most of the time I just shake my clenched fist. When I want to be annoying/funny with friends I start grunting like a mixture of Venus, Serena and Maria (but with a male voice )

I don't play tennis competitively though, and I sure as hell dont use any of those words in everyday life :p I compete for Taekwondo, and some people celebrate when they get points but it is looked down upon, no one at my club is allowed to do it

I think a lot of people use 'come on' in the opposite manner from the pros....They use it more as a swear phrase when they (or someone else) screws up.
