As clay is Aga's worst surface, I hope she will reach some QFs and maybe a SF in one of the smaller events. She needs a bit of luck with draws as her schedule is very tight - she always plays the biggest and most packed tournaments.

Carpet (taraflex) Indoor -> fast Red Clay (conipur) Indoor -> slow Red Clay Outdoor -> slow Red Clay Half-outdoor  -> fast Red Clay Outdoor

This clay WTA calendar is shit

are you having some kind of mental disorder or you're simply talkin' 'bout things you have no knowledge of? you call RG clay fast? :spit: Better stick to making photos of Legia courts...

Caipirinha Guy
Apr 7th, 2010, 12:13 PM
Definitely much faster clay than in Rome and Madrid (because Madrid is on the uplands) - that's what I observe and even what Isia said

spriwi
Apr 7th, 2010, 02:03 PM
definitely NOT. MC & RG have similiar clay, which is one of the slowest on the tour. And clay in Rome is significantly faster than in MC. Don't know much about Madrit. (I think it is common knowledge and needs no further discussion, unless you want me to prove my point with some reliable sources?)

Caipirinha Guy
Apr 7th, 2010, 04:05 PM
You're right  :worship: Cuz in Rome clay is set over a layer of concrete - that's why they are the fastest. But it mostly depends on weather of course - faster when sunny and slower when wet after rain ;)

Aga in Stuttgart!:bounce:

Welcome back to Germany, Aga!:inlove:

R1 vs Ana Ivanovic.
Difficult draw for Aga.
Aga on clay vs former French Open Champion!

Head To Head: Ana leads 3-2
They played once on clay: At Rome 2009.
Where Aga made a great comeback in the 3rd set!

Match is tomorrow on Center Court, not before 6.20 pm.
Hope this interesting match will be on Eurosport!

Good luck, Aga!:);)

Surprisingly close match, some unnecessary theatre in the end. Never mind. Pe'er looks to be tougher opponent.

Aga lost in Stuttgart R2.
3-6 7-6 2-6

Overall Aga did not play well.
Too passive and many balls too short.

But great fight back in set 2:
Aga came back from match point down to win in Tie Break.:)
Some very smart points from magician Aga in the Tie Break!:hearts:

It is only the start of clay season. Aga will improve!
And she had a nice win in R1 over Ana Ivanovic.;)

Not many comments after 2nd round ;)

Those who watch Aga's matches for a long time know this, those who just discovered Aga could see in one match how she can be one of the best players in the world and also why it's so hard for her to make another step in rankings. Two different matches in set 1 (after 2-0) and set 2 (after 1-3). I always wonder what's the reason of not playing that aggressively if not for whole match, then at least for most part. Head or body? Probably both, but physical preparation is a basis of the problem. Everyone says Aga should be stronger to serve better. She doesn't need to serve better, she needs to be stronger to keep the aggression in rallies for longer parts of the match.

That was an overall comment. I don't care that much about this loss. Only two bad things are Pe'er is a rival to Masters... and for Aga that she lost her Porsche. ;)

PS Didn't see 3rd set, but it doesn't matter. I only guess Aga returned to play from set 1.

ROME MD:

http://www.internazionalibnlditalia.it/2/public/pdf/SF.pdf?NY38MVRTRKM9P7VPE55VAV52G

1st round- BYE
2nd round- Vinci/Kleybanova
3rd round- Pennetta
QF - Wozniacki/Zheng/MJMS/Hantuchova/Schiavone
SF - Dementieva/Safina/Azarenka

What a great field. At first I thought this is a bad draw, but then I noticed that it could've been much worse (she could've drawn Stosur/ Wickmayer or Azarenka not to mention being in the same half as Williams sisters). Aga will start (propably) against Vinci, who is a very good player on clay. Her quater is full of dangerous opponents, like Schiavone, Wozniacki, MJMS or Hantuchova. It's going to be difficult to win matches here.

Quite unlucky that she drew her doubles partner as her first singles opponent.
Not the best draw, both in singles and doubles.

On the bright side- nothing to defend in Madrid, it can only be better than in the last year :)

Pszczelny
May 8th, 2010, 10:49 AM
The draw isn't that bad. I can imagine much worse. On the other hand it's not the easiest draw, but Aga needs to test herself against tough players. Thrashing those out of form gives nothing, as in next round she has problems against (at most) decent players. If Aga loses to Kirilenko in first round, at least we'll know she woudn't make any good result in Madrid playing that way, so nothing to cry for.

Aga's first blog from Madrid:
Agnieszka Radwanska's Madrid Blog
May 09, 2010

MADRID, Spain - Just 20 years old and already spending her 67th week inside the world's Top 10, Agnieszka Radwanska is one of the brightest young stars on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, and this week the Polish No.1 blogs for us

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Hello there :)

This is my first blog for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour so I hope you all enjoy it.

Luckily the travel from Rome was just fine - I had a good flight. No problems!

I just came from my first match against Maria Kirilenko. I was playing very well. Everything was working. It was tough at the start - the first four games took 25 minutes! But I'm happy to win in straight sets. I was told I only lost 12 points on serve... and I don't normally know the stats from my matches, but that's good to hear. It was very windy, and it was changing - you'd have the wind behind you on one side, and sometimes it would follow you to the other side too.

It's not great when you have to play your doubles partner, but it happens in tennis. When you're on the court you have to look at them as your opponent. Maria wrote me a cute message afterwards, 'Today was your turn to win and well done', so we're fine! Now we will do our best together in the doubles :)

I haven't really had time to see the city yet. I really wanted to see the Real Madrid game but I was playing the first match today so I couldn't go. It was very disappointing! I haven't seen a live soccer game yet... Maybe next time :(

So, I've been watching Prison Break in my room! That's the show I'm into right now. I love the series. I'm on the last season now. There's just a lot going on in the show - even if the episode is finishing, I want to watch one more. It's hard to stop! Then I look at my watch and it's always so late already...

As you may know, my sister, Urszula, has had some problems with injury. She was in Rome with me and she'll be in Paris too, but not here. She had surgery a few months ago and now she's having some treatment in Krakow. She'll have an MRI soon. It's tough for me of course, I'm not used to being alone for weeks and I feel better when she's with me, but we talk and text every day so it's okay.

Have a nice day, we'll talk again tomorrow!

Dinara lost in the 1st round, so Aga will be the 8th seed for the RG :) perfect news, especially taken that juju will meet one of 9-16 seeds in round of 32. btw, Aga has a chance to get a new career high, she just needs to go far here (2 rounds ahead of stosur).

Hello!

Maria and I won our match today, 63 62. The thing is... we were waiting the whole day in the club! We started warming up at 11 but didn't get on the court until 5:30. We weren't doing much, just waiting and waiting... I went on the computer and chatted to my friends a little bit. I spent a bit of time with Caroline, she also played late... actually she's just going on court now. We spent some time with the physio, in the locker room, restaurant... we were everywhere! I might go and watch some of her match against Kvitova after this.

Many of you have been asking about Prison Break. I'm going to watch more tonight for sure. I have to finish the last season while I'm in Madrid!

I'm playing first tomorrow again and doubles too, so it will be a busy day. I'll have to be ready, it will be tough!

Until tomorrow :)

Aga

Agnieszka's Madrid Blog: Sunday

Did you know from the start you would be so successful? Zuzanna
Honestly, no. Not at all. If someone told me three years ago I'd be Top 10, I'd say he was kidding for sure. I made it there very fast. Now the most important thing for me is to stay there. Top 10, Top 15... I want to stay consistent.

What is your favorite place to go when you're in Poland? Tomek
I'm from Krakow and that's my favorite city. When I'm in Poland, I'm always in Krakow. Even if some TV or other media are in Warsaw, I'll only go for half a day maybe. I want to spend 100% of my time at home, because I'm never there! I like seeing my friends, going to the cinema, I also do university in between all of that... I'll tell you more about that tomorrow... and of course, practice :)

I think that's the reason too.
This match reminded me the matches against Cirstea and Kirilenko (Us Open) last year, which she also lost partly because of the lack of confidence. One bad shot she shouldn't have made (DF at *5:4 30-30 against Cirstea and missed volley against Kirilenko if I remember well) pretty much decided about the outcome of the match (or rather was so called "a nail in her coffin"), because at this moment Aga seemed to have lost hope that she could win. Today she also looked so frustrated and hopeless after making a bad dropshot or volley she normally wouldn't miss and this resulted in next UEs.

Some strange elements in Aga's yesterday play
-retarded reactions: she was starting to Patty's shots very slowly
-regular losing of important points
-the fear of playing risky to close the games in which she was leading
This is prescription for losing matches against good and thinking players

Agnieszka was interviewed by Eurosport - and she told that the main reason she lost was lack of concentration on the important points. And I have to agree - furthermore concentration is more important on clay court as on this surface you must finish off each point. This is Agnieszka lacks also on different surfaces but there she can defend herself in different ways. :)

Reading some non-polish tennis twitters, blogs and portals I noticed that Aga is being constantly unrecognized as a casualty or an upset during this clay court season. She is hardly even considered top 10, although she will be 8th on Monday :help: It's sad but, sadly, justified. She has became totally irrelevant (on clay?). Of all those matches, I only consider the one against Ana a decent. I also noticed that her serve is somehow better, would you agree?
But apart from that... :help: That match against Patty... I mean, the veteran was playing really good, but it was mostly because Aga was so useless. I watched on TV but with English commentator, who once even said: "Patty is reading her game like a book". Considering that unorthodox tactics are Aga's main weapon, this was really an insult. Her defensive skills are so unnecessary when there is nothing to back it up with. This was the slowest match I've ever seen. That was Patty's choice and Aga couldn't add any power or pace at all. What's more - all her flows are even more visible on clay. She can't cope not only with top-spin but also every kind of high bounce. Patty's shots bounce very high and Aga's timing is so off aproaching them, so she plays something in between a moonball and flat power shot which in the end is a big nothing. Her net play was questionable. She is still very, very bad with smash, and - mostly - drive volley. Her drives are so random. Where is her impressive touch and wrist? Drop shots are so so, no effective stop or half volleys. Against Patty, she also lost her backhand completely, especially cross court BH. Is it only clay? I hope so, because it was really painful and boring to watch her lately.

Guys? :) It was just a my view on her clay matches. If you disagree, feel free to point it out. And I'm not taking it very seriously, almost every top player is slumping now and then, just my feelings on the way she was playing. It's not any kind of slump prediction, it came from the fact, the she was really unsatisfactory to watch lately, which made me sad, cause I really love the way she's playing when on. It makes me different from this Aryman3 person who seems to unconditionally love Aga forever. Those kinds of commitments aren't my cup of tea, and I feel so much better not being a "true" fan :)

Hey, you make me almost glad that I could not watch any of Agnieszka's matches lately  Was she really that bad? The British Eurosport commentators are usually very positive about her game and abilities. Patty obviously can read Agnieszka's game, this is not the first time she's beaten her. Why is Agnieszka's loss not recognised as a major upset? Perhaps because it's not a major upset - after all, Patty - herself a former top-tenner - certainly knows how to play tennis. Agnieszka on the other hand is not a former number one or a slam-winner gone bad, whether we like it or not, she's still at the beginning of her climb to the very top. At least she's not over-rated ;)
So Aga, my beautiful underdog, show them what you can do at Roland Garros :rocker2:(or, if clay really isn't your thing this year, save it all for Wimbledon, you'll certainly make me happy )

Bah, it's just a phase, probably nothing more than that... As fans, we are certainly allowed to express our opinions and give our own insights on her current form; we are allowed to express our hopes and concerns and, whether we might agree with each other or not, I'm sure everyone respected fouc's opinion. What I do think is that, despite her exhibitions on clay (which might not be what we would/could expect), we shouldn't be too worried... Of course we want to see her win, of course we want to see her reaching a higher ranking (even number one, who knows) and have a Grand Slam title under her belt; but the only thing we can actually do is to keep supporting her, because we can´t just grab her and then drag her up the rankings... She certainly knows how to manage her career, she knows what kind of expectations are rational (and the ones which aren't) and she surely knows how much does she need to work in order to accomplish her personal objectives. So if she says she wants to be inside top-8 at the end of the season and if she says that she wants to win a Grand Slam in the near future, she knows better than any of us that words aren't enough... So we shall just sit back, relax, enjoy, applaud when we fell we shall do it (and criticize when we fell we shall do it too), but keep on supporting her and just patiently wait for her breakthrough! :)

lol with such a crappy form she is not gonna defend her RG points although she will be seeded as no 8 :|

I don't think lack of confidence is equal with crappy form. Aga won 3 matches and in those lost she had long moments of good play. Someone out of form won't make even this. Aga is not that far from turning into winning mode.

Oh, like last year?
Still, so she should play Strasbourg or something. She needs matches and she doesn't seem to be tired..

She is not playing Warsaw to have free week before RG, if she played Strasbourg, knowing problems from past, I'd be so stupid move.

It's funny though Aga's favourite surface is grass, she has the biggest potential on clay. But for Aga differences between all surfaces aren't that big, if she plays well, she can win everywhere, if she plays bad, you know... Also this clay season, it's about Aga, not the surface. And about Schnyder match, Patty plays such unusual game that drawing conclusions from, doesn't matter, won or lost match against her, is pointless. We can only say Aga failed mentally.
