Oh that seemed like a bit of a disaster for Maria. Sounds like a match she really should have won.

But for once i'm not too upset with her loss as one of my faves beat her...and Sori needs wins as she has been awful this year so far.

Lets hope for better in Barcelona and I don't want her to play one of my faves in R1 again!

Kirilenko is really the player who chokes the most.
She has the talent for Top 20, but not the mental strenght.
It is nearly paradox: In her first sets she always seems confident and she has a great body language. And then she continues to play till the middle of the second set - From then on she begins to choke in a way i've never seen before.

And it's true :shrug:
We've seen it sooo many times. But just what goes on in Maria's head when she's in a winning position. If only she could have the belief she had against Sharapova at the Australian Open against all her opponenets :sobbing:

She def didn't destroy her racket I looked away for a second probably in disgust lol and heard the umpire say point penalty kirilenko, maybe she hit a ball out into the crowd or something lol. She was pissed, terrible body language and then she just gave up and tanked the end of the match.

She def didn't destroy her racket I looked away for a second probably in disgust lol and heard the umpire say point penalty kirilenko, maybe she hit a ball out into the crowd or something lol. She was pissed, terrible body language and then she just gave up and tanked the end of the match.

And of course, it's the same every year with her. I don't know why I keep expecting it to change. So inconsistent, plays her best tennis about 3 tournaments a year. I guess she will do well the Asian swing again.

She should destroy rackets, sometimes it works well:o . I think that she was mad because she knew that she was playing awfully, that she should have won this match, that she'll lose her points of last year, that she won't be seeded in RG, that she used to be great on clay, that grass is coming soon etc... (well, not sure that she thought about all of that during her match:lol:)

She can be brilliant on clay, so we still can expect her to wake up, then on grass, well, if she win 2 or 3 matches, it would be great.Then the US tournaments, she must have good results there to be ready for Asia where she's very famous:hearts:

Why isn't Maria playing Mickey Mouse tournaments Fes and Estoril? She'd have a lot better shot at gaining points at those tournaments. :confused:

After this week Maria is 85 points behind Vesnina for the #32 ranking. Maria is only defending 70 points (a quarterfinal in Estoril) for the rest of the clay court season

As it stands now Maria would need a quarterfinal in Rome, a 3rd round in Madrid, or a 3rd round in Rome and a 2nd round in Madrid to move up to the #32 ranking.

I don't think that Maria will retire too because of Igor's retire. Of course she will continue her career. But, as I said already, it can influence on it...
