I found this on eurosport.com...Great that she has confidence but she seems a little bit optimistic.

"If I had been able to play the same way in the first set maybe it would have been different. The second set was really tight," Bartoli said.
"In the first set I didn't play that well so I think also for her to be one set up helped her confidence."

Because Venus' confidence depends on being a set up against Marion :help:

What a fucking tool you are :help:

If you think being a set up in a match won't effect your thoughts and self belief, you are a pathetic excuse for a tennis fan.

Venus could have changed gear if she wanted, she didnt have to, Bartoli helped her out.

 Is this really worth its own thread? Seems like bait to me. Besides, if she didnt think she could beat Vee then she never would have. Having confidence is good.

i'm pretty sure no player would say they would just get beaten in a match without any hope.

i have no idea why this needed its own thread.

Omg get a grip. There's nothing wrong with this comment. At all. :cuckoo:

She's beaten Venus before so there's no reason why she can't feel a little disappointed. :cuckoo:

Exactly.

What tennis player isn't going to feel dissatisfied when she's had prior success and had established some momentum in the second set? It's basic competitive instincts.

I'm about to watch this match, but if the general consensus and the stats is anything to go by, Venus played poorly but Marion was abysmal, DFing and hitting errors all over the show. If that's true then why wouldn't Marion feel as if she had her chances, or feel that she didn't Venus under sufficient pressure in that first set? She hasn't said anything outrageous.

This thread wasn't even started by a Venus fan , but as a Venus fan I'm not about to get cocky and start behaving as Bartoli has no 'right' to think that she could beat Venus or at least have put up a better fight.

I'm hoping against hope that Venus can overcome what has ended up being a weak draw and her own erratic play. We'll see what happens tomorrow when Venus faces an opponent who isn't going to spray errors, have laspses or let her get away with doing the same.

Oh shut up for once  The thread starter is NOT a Venus fan. You need to know his history with Venus and her fans . She's barely top ten ? You really need to check the rankings and I wouldn't talk about others considering who is in your siggy :help:

Um, unless there will be a substitute for either Henin or Clijsters in the final, she will face an opponent that does just that. ;) Definitely to a lesser degree than her previous opponents, but both Justine and Kim can have lapses and spray errors and they both have this year. But I agree that she will need to raise her level against either one of them. :)

I did not discuss or comment on Marion's beliefs. I made a remark that Venus does not need to be a set up against an opponent in order to feel confident that she can win the match. She has made it plenty clear that she always feels that she will end up the winner, regardless of the tight situations she often finds herself in a match.

This is what Bartolli said after Wimbledon

" Marion said: "Venus play some unbelievable tennis. She reached some balls like I never see one person reach some ball like that on a tennis court, and she would even hit it harder back to me.

"She served 120 miles on first serve. Sometimes was hurting my wrist so bad because the ball was coming so fast to me. So I really try my best I think, and I play a great match, but at the end she was just too good.

"I can't say a player can beat her when she play like this. I mean, it's not possible to beat her. She's just too good, you know."

When asked about her wrists

Marion: No. It was a little tight and when you receive a ball at 120 miles you get some shock to the wrists that I'm not used to cause I never play against some girls everyday who hit the ball like this. No. there is no injury."

The announcers mentioned that She was shaking her wrist

at times tonite.

Seems a fair comment, Marion beat her over three sets in the Stanford final but more importantly, Venus wasn't at her best yesterday and struggled to get going at times - unfortunately so did Marion. But the chance to beat her was there and if Venus doesn't pick it up she'll have a tough time tomorrow against Clijsters. Thing is, when she is playing well, it's scary.

It's a lot easier getting power on your shots at 6ft 1, as compared to players who are much shorter. I getting a bit tired of the Williams sisters. Can somebody just knock them off, lol.

Go Wickmayer, Sharapova, Lisicki.
