Before the classic match between Justine and Kim, I would like to know who you gets the honor of the best classic rivals of all time in history of tennis.

Go Ju:hearts:

Nothing as great as Navratilova - Evert :worship:
After that, it should be Graf - Seles (pre-stabbing), Hingis - Venus, Serena - Capriati, Hingis - Davenport, and Graf - ASV.

WTF is Mauresmo vs Justine doing in that list? :weirdo:

Graf vs Sánchez Vicario was a much better one, even bigger than Sabatini vs Graf...

Of course it's Navratilova vs. Evert but I had to vote for Hingis vs Williams as that rivalry encapsulates so many of my favorite matches...for ME:

1. Hingis/Williams
2. Navratilova/Evert
3. Hingis/Davenport
4. Graf/Seles
5. Graf/Navratilova

Obviously, some of the choices are jokes because it's April Fool's Day.

Some people even appear to be voting for them in the spirit of the event.

OP you fail.

Why did you put 'Hingis v William Sisters'? Just because of a couple (literally two) comments Hingis and Serena exchanged in a press conference in the early nineties?

Venus has a rivalry with Hingis, Serena does not. Get it right. Look at their head-to-heads. Rivalries aren't made in a press conference when you're urged on by hungry journalists, it's about the tennis. Venus has played Hingis over twenty times and the difference in their H2H is one match. Now that is a rivalry. Serena was a good match-up against Hingis she had her number their whole career. That is not a rivalry.

You also forgot Venus - Davenport. They've also played eachother over twenty times including GS finals (including 05 Wimbledon).

Also, the Henin - Serena rivalry is so overrated it's not even funny. Serena needs to figure out a way to beat in-form Henin otherwise :tape:

Chris and Martina played 80 times, and something like 2/3 of those were FINALS.

The final split is a respectable 43-37, and each of them ended up with 18 freakin' slams.

It's the rivalry not just of women's tennis, but of all of individual sports.

Serena/Jen is among the top 5 best rivalries in all of open era Women's tennis.

1. Nav/Evert - cleary anyone who didn't vote for this doesn't know ANYTHING about great rivalries or tennis
2. Hingis/Venus - their matches were all so close, and they did NOT care for each other at all
3. Seles/Graf - it's a great rivalry in name only. Pre-stabbing Monica owned Steffi...thus the stabbing
4. Serena/Jen - whenever they stepped on the court together, you just knew it was going to be an epic 3 set battle.
5. Lindsay/Venus - a few good matches here and there, but their last one is arguably one of the best women's matches of all time.

Having played in how many Grand Slam finals?? :weirdo:

Graf and Sánchez Vicario played 7 Grand Slam finals (5/2 for Graf) in 36 meetings. Of these 36 meetings, 25 were finals.

Serena - Capriati is missing

I would also have included that rivalry as it really was something to watch - they played some fantastic matches.

Evert/Navratilova for me is the greatest.

King/Court also was big but before most of our times I guess!

Seles/Graf was also intense and a major event, but without the stabbing it probably is not as big as remembered. I think Hingis and the Williams was bigger and probably even Hingis and Seles. In fact Hingis had some big rivalries including Capriati - which argues against those that say Hingis was winning when the field was weak. It was far stronger than now and actually during a brilliant period for the Tour.

well...seeing as they were always on the same side of the draw, that was an impossiblity. :weirdo:

and :o of course there was tennis before Serena and her older sister...but it got a lot better once they came around.

Yes, another great Hingis rivalry - strengthening further the argument that Martina played at a great time for the Tour. Shame the Lindsay/Hingis rivalry appears to be overshadowed.

And how about Lindsay and Venus?!

Great choices.

Most of these are amongst my fave matchups to watch. Especially Graf-ASV. For me that was the best rivalry Graf was involved in even if the overall score was one sided but it's heavily overshadowed by her matches with Seles and Sabatini.

'Best' rivalry of course is a matter of opinion though. I don't really enjoy nav and everts matches at all but I couldn't put any other matchup above them in a thread like this.

Hingis davenport are overshadowed far too much especially considering they were 1 and 2 for so long. I'd put it ahead of davenport Venus although the 05 wimby final is the best match of either rivalry.

:weirdo: If playing in GS Finals makes rivalries the greatest then I guess anyone not mentioning V&S is a fool because they've played in 8. Saying that JCap/Serena is one of the best rivalries is perfectly legitimate - unless you have anything else to counter that with other than pointing out the number of finals ASV lost to Graf.

So LOL @ you.

Do you enjoy letting your insecurities shine through so blatantly? Such a frustrated person.
Henin-Serena rivalry is close and has a HISTORY which makes it a good one if not a classic deserving of this poll. Serena LEADS the rivalry with Henin by two matches...if only Venus lead her two biggest rivals (I say this as a Venus fan, because it really annoys me that Hingis and Davenport ended up leading her in the H2H).

Evert Navratilova
Court King
Graf Seles

Compared to those, we haven't had a real rivalry since.

The Court-King era was IMHO truly the Golden Age, because there was so much more to it than just those two. An emerging Evert, Goolagong, Wade, Casals, Bueno, Durr, Barker, Stove, Haydon-Jones... and on the men's side Laver, Ashe, Newcombe, Conners, Tanner, McKinley (who looked like he should be teaching high school physics)...I can't even remember 'em all.

The battles between the Helens (Wills-Moody and Jacobs) were pretty big in their day, weren't they, although the one match with Lenglen usually gets all the press.

I think Louise Brough and Margaret Osborne duPont had a big rivalry in their day (albeit they were a great doubles team together).

Navratilova vs Evert is the best classic rivalry from what I've heard, and the few DVDs I've seen of their matches. A superb serve & volleyer battling possibly the best baseliner in WTA history was exciting to watch. But I was shocked to see how slow-paced the game looked back then, and how much more power explodes off today's rackets. Technology has really changed a lot of things in tennis! But it didn't look like they disliked each other much, like in some other rivalries??

The rivalries I've personally enjoyed for various reasons, not necessarily based on a contrast of styles, are:
1. Martina Hingis versus Williams Sisters - Electric tension each time these players faced each other, and some really exciting matches!

2. Monica Seles vs Steffi Graf - Two of the best players of all time, unbelievable fighters in the biggest matches, and incredibly consistent and always in the running to win a Grand Slam. The stabbing only added to the intrigue and tension between them and fan bases...

3. Serena vs Justine - Contrast in styles and thrilling battles between the fierce Serena and battling petite Belgian.
