Though win for Kim, but got there in the end. San proved harder than Azarenka:)

Sam actually hit some really good shots in the second. But alas, Kim is greater.

Kim vs. Justine will be love.

Sam's fans may be pissed off a bit. She did next to nothing from 5-5 in the 2nd, showing no real effort or willingness to win.

Sam played better in the 2nd, but this result was never in doubt.

Sammy

Great effort! Crappy start but second set she really started challenging Kim. Just a few stupid decisions that might have challenged Kim even more. Oh well, she defended her points from last year at least!

Kim :)

Kim :hearts: That was a superb display today, 28-16 and plenty of forced errors. She's looking good :yeah:
Samantha handled herself pretty well, she was a worthy opponent :worship:
Overall, I thought it was a good match :D

Stosur still has some stiffness in her game during rallies.

Sam kept it close in 2nd set, but Kim was able to keep the focus.

Best of luck against Juju !

Great play from Kim more Winners than errors which is always great,

Sam made good plays to but she had a bad start in the first set and couldn't handle the pressure of the last games

Sam's made too many errors today, especially in the first set, but Kim played extremely well, she was just too good so all credit to her :worship:
Good luck against Justine :)

great match. great quality. kim was almost error less. both are playing very flat. both were feeling ball great today. of course it was bit one dimensinal as they dont use slice or top spin, but still great match. congrats to both. very, very good match. pitty the crowd was shitty.

I think the serve was the key, Kim hit 4 aces and 0 df's, that's pretty surprising
I have to admit that am a little bit  that Kim was so consistent throughout the whole match, I mean 26-18 winnner/ue's ratio looks decent, do your best vs Henin :rocker2:

Sam needs more self belief, she was playing really well in that 2nd set but just gave it away with some dumb shots. She's got to keep going at situations like 5-5 against players as good as Kim, she can match with them as was shown tonight. Other than that, it was a nice match, Kim played well.

Thanks for this. Match stats look pretty even - unforced errors the key.

Sam started quite slow and finished the 2nd set poorly. Paid for it.

From what I saw, Kim was just far too good today. Sam did well to stay with her for that long and I am not too disapointed with her effort today. Unfortunately mental issues as usual, but Kim was really just a level above.

Two good tournaments in a row:) Unfortunately she lost her place in the top 10 (I think), but some hard work and good results during the clay season should see her climb back in for a while.

Still has doubles to go as well! Really has been a fantastic month for Sammy, making it deep in singles and doubles for the two biggest non slam events. Not many other tour players are able to achieve that these days.

She will only lose her top 10 spot if Kim wins the tournament or Bartoli reaches the final. ;)

Ummmm, if only Sam had played better... anyway Clijsters was like the Terminator on court. Anyway here comes the clay season for Sam, where she doesn't really defend points until RG.

Shriekarenka seems shackled by her own limitations, Stosur occasionally transcends them. This match was one of those occasions.

The first few games gave precious few hints of that; we saw the same old Stosur for the most, struggling to keep her BH in the court even on neutral rallies. Clijsters was in cruise control.

But early on the 2nd set Stosur began taking over the match. The catalyst was, IMO, her BH slice working quite well (the best I've seen it work since last year's US Open Series); it was reliable and reasonably accurate and, while it didn't win her any points, it allowed her to keep herself in rallies long enough to begin finding the range on her FH and even hit a few good drive BHs here and there (!). Stosur used her kick serve out wide not to win points outright but to set them up, was aggressive on ROS, and very soon was overpowering Clijsters with her heavy topspin FH - no mean feat, even though Clijsters was oddly passive and by and large letting it happen (the same passivity that she displayed during the whole of the match vs Tanasugarn at the AO). And it wasn't just off the ground - Stosur, often labelled as a poor volleyer, actually pulled off a number of extremely difficult low volleys. But she couldn't keep it up, and at the 2nd set's finish line it was Clijsters' turn to crank it up somewhat to close out the match.

Stosur a poor volleyer? My Gosh, Samantha Stosur is one of the best volleyers in the game what are you talking about? Please she absolutely dominates the volley, these are Tracy Austin's words. However I think that she always choses bad moments to come to the net.

Sam is definitely not a 'poor volleyer' but as an accomplished doubles player I think her volleys can be quite scrappy sometimes.

Yeah I think sometimes she has no confidence on her volley but this just happens in her scrappy matches, I mean you should watch the Wozniacki one in Osaka or the doubles final in Indian Wells, it was awesome everytime someone threw a ball at Sam when she was at the net it became a winner for Petrova/Stosur!
