In mutual agreement with the Serbian Tennis Federation, Ana will not take part in the Serbia versus Slovakia Fed Cup tie next month.

“I spoke with the captain Dejan Vranes, and the President of the Federation Slobodan Zivojinovic, and together we decided that under these circumstances, and after all that has happened lately, it’s not the right time for me to be part of the team,” said Ana.

“Despite my non-presence, I believe that we have a good team, led by Jelena, and this is a great opportunity for one of the young, upcoming players to play on the biggest stage.

“I know that Serbia will put up a performance of great commitment and passion as always.

“I will continue to make all necessary steps to find my form, and the key to that is training with my team and playing tournaments.”

Zivojinovic said: “We all know that Ana has been through some very tough experiences lately and we support her in her efforts to do everything possible to return to the top. Ana has all the time in the world, she is only 22, and she’ll be back soon.”

No big loss. It doesn´t matter if it´s Ana, who lost both singles or some unknown serb.

I don't think Serbia will win against the Slovaks with only JJ.:(
Still hopefully there's miracle.

They could have played anyone against Russia and not missed Ana. She lost every set she was on court for

This is better for Ana, she must earn some points, and this is great chance for other Serbian players to play for Serbia !!

Slovakia has Hantuchova, Cibulkova and Rybarikova. It's a pretty tough team.

Ana should be there even if she doesnt play.
Domi just played Justine close and Dani beat Nadia.
That team should be favorite

Serbian team should be:

1. Jankovic
2. Jovanovski
3. Jovanovic
4. Krunic
5. Curovic

Still enough to beat Bojana. Also on clay Cibulkova might upset Jankovic, besides the fact Slovakia will be a major favorite for the doubles.

Slovakia 3-2 seems to be the most probable ending right now.

Doesn't matter !! We still have our queen-- JJ <3 :) :) :)

If they have 2 singles wins, they should be favorite. Domi played well yesterday, Jelena is no cinch that match

this funk has been going on for a long time, something is terribly wrong with her she needs a break from tennis otherwise by the time she regains her confidence the tour will have passed her by.There is a strong bunch of girls that will stop Ana from winning anything, that I am young mantra will be shallow in two years time.Look at Hingis at 22yrs she was fed up and was not winning until she took a break. She should have a hobby anything to keep her mind off tennis....otherwise she wil be known as a one hit wonder.

Daniela plays well in Fed cup. She beat Cornet on clay in fed cup last year even though it was around the time her slump was starting, and lost to Amelie in two tight sets. Pretty sure she also served for the first set against Jelena in Rome? I'm not being biased here, I don't expect dani to beat Jelena on clay, but she is capable of playing on the surface.

well, Daniela has some nice results from last year where she was playing on clay. ;) Cibulkova too. (RG semifinal). there are great chances for Slovakia.

I know, Ana won GS and had a better career than Nicole but I think she really goes in Nicole's steps, after Nicole quit the FED CUP team, she was basically done :bigcry:

Good decision IF she decides to enter in more tournaments instead such as Marbella, Fes or Barcelona.

So Slovakia just defeated Serbia.woohoooo :yeah:

If Dominika and Daniela play, Serbia has no chance with just one Jankovic. No way Slovakia is going to lose the doubles

This has been going on for almost 2 years now, and she's actually getting worse, not better. At least in the Fall of 08 she won Linz, and early last year she was competitive in Dubai and IW, had a couple of back to back R16 at RG/Wimbledon. Then nothing for months.

I'm not really sure what she can do to stem the fall, and I don't think she knows either.

It's good that she pulled out of Fed Cup, I guess. There's only going to be more pressure if she fails to deliver.

I reckon that she feels she let the side down and is a bit scared the same might happen again with Jelena winning her two matches and her losing hers again.

Probably for the best she does skip this one. But they really need her playing (but not the crap she did against Russia but just something vaguely reminiscent of what she could do 2 years ago). What a shame Serbia weren't in WG1 two years ago when Jelena and Ana were at the top.

Right decision by Ana, and now I really hope Domi can lead Slovakia to beat JJ and co :bounce:

SF in Brisbane this year. First time she advanced beyond 4R since last year's IW final.

Good decision by Ana.;)
Ana would not have helped the team.
She would have lost all 3 matches again and Serbia would have lost the tie.

Any news on the teams?

Hope for Serbia play:
Jankovic, Jovanovski, Krunic, Curovic

For Slovakia I guess:
Hantuchova, Cibulkova, Rybarikova

Serbia will lose the doubles for sure.
So they have to win 3 singles in order to win the tie.:p
Jovanovski must win at least 1 singles match.

Slovakia is the favourite to advance to WG 1!
