Thoughts on which top quality matches are often forgotten by fans and critics alike?

Hingis-Graf 99.

It's usually only mentioned because of the drama, but there's a reason why Hingis was uncharacteristically physically spent by the end of the second set. The all-court placement and tactical battle especially in the second was great. Steffi's backhand was superb in that match with her assortment of incredible depth, angles, short balls, drop shots and lobs.

Coming from a poster who doesn't even know how to use the correct form of "You're"? :weirdo:

Back on topic that was a fantastic match. A lot of people also skip over Serena's first round epic in the 2003 AO against Emilie Loit where she dodged a very close bullet.

Serena Williams def Shahar Peer 2007 Australian Open QF 3-6, 6-2, 8-6

I feel that this is one of Serena's lesser talked about Australian Open comebacks. It was definitely one of the best matches I've seen Shahar play in her career and she was 2 points away from eliminating Serena. I was on the edge of my chair for the whole match and while I was so happy Serena won, I was a bit gutted for Shahar.

Venus Williams vs Serena Williams, Australian Open 2003.

People often rave about their USO or Wimbledon matches from '08, but often ignore this genuine 3 set contest, with both players at their physical peaks, or at least very close to it. It was the only match against GOATrena, that Venus actually took it fully to lil sis, and invested so much emotionally.

Yes, yes, yes, there was the errors that are often present in their matches, but some sparkling quality. Venus's brilliant athleticsm making inexplicable gets, and Serena's AMAZING power just turning the screw in her favour. It was the only match IMO, where the crowd actually had a preference. Very pro-Venus considering she was one the receiving end of 3 consecutive Slam finals.

A match of real theatre if nothing else.

Just finished rewatching the Henin-Myskina match in Eastbourne. AMAZING.

Just third set highlights. It has everything you can possibly expect from a showdown between these two. Myskina's game is such a delight on grass. I'm really disappointed she couldn't put it all together enough to be a super contender at Wimbledon.

Myskina's shotmaking was considerably better against Kuznetsova in SF (bar second set). Particularly her forehand that virtually deserted her in the final.

I don't really remember much of that SF against Sveta, but the overall quality of the final was pretty high. Myskina was moving really well and really getting down very low to make her shots. And beyond that, both players put on a great show.

Yup.

*here is where I spam you all with Golovin matches*

But no, i'll just say the 2006 Miami SF between Sharapova and Tati. Tati went out and tried to go toe to toe with Maria, but Maria was on form and just dominated her. So when she was down she switched it up and started retrieving everything and eventually she started grinding down Sharapova til Maria's shots lost their edge, then she picked up her game and started being aggressive and then won that set from 1-5. All the drama with Maria trying to take a toilet break and then getting booed, the comeback, the way the second set ended and then of course that dreaded injury made it so crazy. The crowd were giving standing ovations after like every point, especially in the game where Tatiana saved like 5 match points and there were about 6 20+ stroke rallies.

Venus vs Safarova at the French last year was a great match.
