That was I was thinking, I just wanted to make myself sure of it (I wouldn't hope for nothing). But at least, even if it will be very difficult, it's still possible.
And we can also count on 2 or 3 withdrawns =S. I keep hoping.

If Ana makes only the third round, or even if she loses the first match, the withdrawals won't matter.. she will just not be close enough.. She needs to make at least the QF to have any kind of chance of getting a seed.

Not happening until Wednesday, really?? That is a joke. How can JJ have so much power here, to allow her days off to be ready

It`s actually pretty common for top players to ask organizes to do them some favor regarding schedule of their matches :p

isn't any hope RG will seed her nevertheless? She's a former champion and if she plays half-decent against JJ they wouldn't want her to meet a (top) seed right away... I know only wimbledon does that but i'm hoping...

also i was checking ana's points in the race, she has 711 as of now, with this amount she is guaranteed a top 100 finish (around 90) for 2010, so that's a positive:lol:

No.. that's not a possibility. RG will seed according to rankings. The only exemption is Wimbledon. All the other slams must seed according to the previous week rankings (says the ITF).

With a QF she is 2 points behind Maria.
If she goes to 32 or 31 then it's actually sure she gets a high seed in round 3.

But there is no reason why she couldn`t win at least one TB.Who is this Zakopalova girl anyway? Being 6-1 down in both TB is just mental,it doesn`t have to do with Dinara`s level of play
Rafa won so many matches like this last year when he had many problems. That`s the difference between him and Dinara/Ana

Yes.. it has a lot to do with the mental part of the game. I think maybe Safina got a lot of confidence from her conditioning.. and not being able to trust that her got her head spinning.

The problem is Bruce that now you can only win a GS at the age of 28,29 if you are Federer or if your last name is Williams  Even Venus couldn`t win GS last year

Something funny happened to me yesterday/today which made me think of Ana. I hope it's not too off topic, didn't know where else to post:

So, I do Taekwondo and I am involved in a competitive level, so I compete in tournaments (although I havn't in some time). Yesterday my coach was talking a lot about how no matter how good your skills are, a good state of mind is very important. Tonight he is going to be giving me a list of his favourite sports psychology authors because we both feel that I am not only fighting my opponent in the ring but also myself. I instantly thought of Ana

I remember after seeing her play for the first time, I decided I would be a big fan of hers after looking her up and discovering that we had a lot in common. Too much! Although I probably wouldn't read Freud :P

Ana chances to beat Jankovic in R2 Madrid is much bigger than her chances to beat JJ in eventual Rome final week ago! Simple Jelena much more prefer fast clay (Rome red clay and Charleston green clay) unlike Ana which prefer slower one (in Madrid clay speed is more like in Paris or former Berlin). Also in Rome final Jelena will be so full of self-confidence after Wickmayer-Venus-Serena big wins which will against her arch-enemy Ana only help her to play better, not to underestimate opponent like against MJMS. Also in past when for example see how others elite clay
struggle (Henin, Kuznetsova, Safina) Ana will be obsessed with her future RG result and Jelena will do anything to chose that at current event, but in this exceptional 2010 case things are totally opposite. I'm pretty sure that JJ thinks "OMG in Paris I have best ever shot to finally win slam" and after everything which happen with Ana in last about 2 years she should be totally focused on Madrid right now.

Jelena is still favorite, but Ana has chances, and if she wins - everything is possible about her Madrid final result. I mean really everything.

 She says it's long ago.. :spit: yeah right... :rolleyes:The Drama Queen often lives up to her name and, even though I don't like her much,I enjoy that element she brings to a sport where the players are often too timid,IMO.Neither of her quotes from the site were that weighty.I tried to open Serena's quotes but still couldn't do it...no big deal, though, cuz Ree's comments are usually either bland or a bit nonsensical......UNLESS she's upset about something....THEN we get some classics:lol:

The men are even MORE boring...and the myth of the ATP superiority has been exposed this season;those sorry swishes can't even make it out of the 2nd Round.I don't watch their matches, except on rare occasions, but the scoreboard shows that the supposed elite--the top seeds--have been as inconsistent as dizzy teenage girls

The OOP is not out yet, but JJ says they play first at 12 on twitter:

Damn, if this match goes 3 sets I'll probably only be able to see the 1st 2.
So Ana, beat her in straights!! :rocker2:

No one offered any assistance...no surprise:lol:...but I figured out the trick to those audio clips on the WTA page.As I suspected, the comments are basically yawners...nothing really spicy...except JJ might be trying to insinuate that Ana isn't an important opponent for her.She claims that she can't remember who won their last meeting. That's a little hard to believe:lol:

 I seriously need Ana to beat her tomorrow!

With Caro losing today , Venus moves to #2 :)

:yeah:
Hopefully, she'll continue to fall down the rankings where she belongs...

Bad luck.. :sobbing:

With the way seeds are falling left and right, if Ana had another draw she could really make a run.. :sobbing: Instead.. she has an extremely tough first match, against a red hot player.. :sobbing:

I REALLY want Ana to win tomorrow! REALLY! Big time.. :sobbing: But I know it's going to be extremely tough.. Ana will have to be serving great, because JJ is a great returner.. she will have to cut down the UEs and be patient, because JJ will return many balls.. she will have to return great, because JJ is serving better now than the last few times they played.. and she will have to be focused, determined and ready to fight, because it won't be easy.

My hope is JJ gets too overworked for this match and tries too hard and ends up making lots of mistakes. Then maybe, karma will come back to bite her. That would be pretty awesome.

not really... italian men are quite hot, it's true, i think mostly because of the big eyes and dark hair, but on average i would say italian women are more beautiful than men. Italian men (and maybe spaniards? Anyway, since we're not allowed to discuss anything other than Ana here apparently, lest we get f-bombed, Ana will beat JJ 6-2, 0-6, 7-6(12).

Ana will lead 5-0 in the third set before choking Novotna style. JJ will then lead 6-2 in the final tiebreak before getting leg-cramps.

Broken from 30-0 up twice. Broken up 40-30. Completely self distroyed in the third set.. JJ was also awful.. but Ana helped her out big time.

Indeed. She won the set because JJ was hopeless. JJ couldn't hit the side of a barn for a set and a half. Three holds was it? In a 3 set match. 1 hold per set. Ridiculous.

Heinz had the right ideas, but he just couldn't get through to Ana, who continually complained about "not being able to see the ball."

Her complaining is a way of not taking responsibility. She didn't want to accept that it was her doing, she wanted to say "well there's nothing I can do about it, it's not my fault if I can't see the ball". She needs to step up, take responsibility for her own tennis. I can understand not having rhythm, but what the heck does not seeing the ball even mean? Do you need new contact lenses Ana?

Ana was disappointing. I actually wanted her to win this one despite liking JJ more. She needed this win but her head didn't allow her to take it. Every ball toss was different and all her serves seemed to be random. I don't know what's wrong with this girl. Rome had plenty of good signs but Madrid's turned out to be a disappoment. She mocked the fistpump.

And 5 points.

Ok, but it was when she put her jacket on isn't it ?

So bad... So the only way for her to be top seed is the ones ahead lost many points, and we can maybe count on some withdraws. Keep hoping even if I know it's almost impossible :o

I know, and JJ was already so bad. JJ was trying to give the match to Ana, but Ana was too generous to accept it.

Didn't see it myself, but from what Izzy says it sounds totally uncalled for. But with how badly JJ played today I suppose she wanted to let out some frustration. Still not nice though, definitely not the classy thing to do when you've won.

I get the feeling that JJ wanted to win this so badly, she obviously doesn't really get on with Ana very well, and that bad feeling was also making it hard for her to play good tennis.

It is possible to bounce back from this, but it won't be easy. She needs a very very soft draw in RG. There are one or two higher ranked players who might also be beatable- defending champ Sveta is one, Dina as well, although if Ana draws them I think the quality might be just as bad as this match. Must not draw Justine, who will definitely recover before RG and be ready to play.

It's impossible. Ana is going to end the week ranked 41, about 300 points behind the last seed. Nobody ahead of her is losing points.. and there won't be 10 withdrawals.

Ana will be unseeded, fact.

And yes.. the JJ mock fistpump was when she went to put her jacket on. She did the fistpump, said yeah! and cracked up to her camp.. said something to them as well, but I didn't get that. She then signed the camera.

Is that when JJ put her jacket on ? She made something weird, probably looking at her box, but I didn't understand.

And then, now, how many points will Ana get ? 5 or 80 ?

Definetely what JJ did was far from the fair play. She imitated Ana's fist pump and a face expression of her.It is very out of classy.
So again Ana's past habits; rushing away from keeping calm. The first set was OK but fom the middle of second set she again gegan to panicking.Rome was different from ths point of wiev.Anyway everthing started to become bad after 2008 Roland Garros; maybe this year will be the opposite.Everything will begin GOOD with 2010 oland Garros

Yes.. I wish she would just show some fight... Whenever things start to not go exactly as she wants, she just goes away. Like.. "whatever... I'm losing this anyway." Today when Heinz came up, all Ana did was complain.. exactly like she did against MJMS.. complain, complain, complain.. and not listen to his advice at all. He had to finish it off by telling her she was up a set, for her to keep cool. But at that moment, Ana was already too consumed with what was going wrong to actually fight for the match. I has been like this for SO long.. maybe the matches she won in Rome were really just an oasis in the desert..

This match has to be the epitome of being stupid and giving up. I thought I would be pissed off with the world if Ana lost this.. but she was such an idiot in this match, I'm pissed off at her.. She definitely deserved to lose.. and got mocked along the way. :o

Why are you talking so much about JJ? Do we really care that much about her.Seriously guys she is not important .So she mocked Ana at the end ...who cares
Meh she is like that... nothing new really

I really don`t want to discuss JJ anymore here ,lets focus on Ana please

Obviously i didn`t watch the match ,but my brother did and he says it was pathetic play from both with few good points.
What happened with all those DFs? He says her serve was inconsistent and ball toss wasn`t the problem but her head
He also said Ana was way passive ...
Heinz really should push her to use that FH more ,i don`t know how but it has to be done

About RG ...man she will need all the luck in the world there
On a positive note she played 3 matches last year on clay before RG,this year she played 7 .Who would have thought that

Ana needs to keep fighting and not give up .She spent so much time without proper practices and match play that she really can`t expect things to just go her way
Really hoping they will keep Heinz after RG no matter of her draw there

The match was indeed awful Jelena. Poor poor quality from both. Ana couldn't serve and JJ couldn't find the court for a set and a half. Then Ana suddenly gave up... from 4-4 in the second, she didn't even try. Your brother is right.. Ana was really passive... I had the feeling most of Ana's BHs were framers.. because they would land so short and high, inside the service box. JJ would go to try and blast them for winners, with mixed success.. :spit: Ana was the pusher in this match. Which was funny.. because whenever she did try to be aggressive she would win the point. I don't understand why she didn't try it more times though. The serve was a big WTF?! She held only 3 times in a match that had 27 games. And 12 DFs.. :help:

The worst thing though is her head. I mean.. in the second set.. she was tied with JJ.. yet she calls Heinz and do nothing more than whine.. complain complain complain. Why couldn't she just try to play and fight? Really negative reaction there.. And after losing the second set in a stupid way (getting broken from 30-0 up 3 times in a row, and wasting GPs), she gave up. Didn't even try.. shanks and more shanks. Got one game there in the third with the help of God. This is what pissed me off.. she didn't even fight.. she just gave !@#!@# up! UGH!

There is no positive to take from this.. only negatives.. I was up there with her worst matches of the year.. and we've had plenty of those. She only won a set, because JJ was awful too. Probably against anyone decent, she would have lost today.

I've read somewhere Heinz told her she was choking in the third.. I hope he tells that and more later on and she opens her eyes and sees it.

About RG.. she will need more than luck.. she will need a miracle.

Still.. Ana... :help: These kind of things should fire her up.. wake her up.. instead she gets into that denial process.. doesn't accept the advice.

The match was one of the worst matches I've ever seen, really.. from both. It was just one of these matches you just think could be used as a torture instrument by the inquisition in Middle Age. It was THAT bad. It wasn't really all that difficult mentally though... when your opponent isn't holding serve, and you are up a set, you should go freaking out to your coach. Ana lost it there. She made it difficult. She gave up.. literally.. while she was still leading! :help: It was a big WTF?!

About the serve, I really can't explain... she was hitting it all over the place. And mostly at the worst times. She also only had 50% of first serves in.. so you can imagine how bad it was. Couldn't buy a first serve to save her life.

I think the best case senario for Ana would be to draw Safina or Kuzzy in the first round. She beats them(big if, i know) and then she has an open road to at least the 4th round(that should be her goal imo, defend last years points)

Fed Cup was the bottom of the barrell,i don't think she played nearly as bad today. For example we were wondering about the FH,today she hit many of those fh "rockets" like she used to,in Rome she served well, even her backhand was ok for her standars.Even the 26-44 ratio,if you take off the DFS isn't THAT awful.I think her actual tennis level right now isn't far from top 20.It's the mental side that's a complete mess. She looks insecure, fragile, ready to break down at any moment..i know she didn't ooze confidence even at her peak years but it's worse now..

And of course Heinz has to take the pusher mentality off her brain. The evil Dutchman did a perfect job there though, and only a lobotomy seems like a solution now..:sobbing:

Will keep THIS point brief:If Ana is THAT much of a train wreck on court--as y'all have posted--then her psychological problems are pretty deep...and there's NO WAY that she thinks clearly OFF-court,either.

On a brighter note,Ana surprised us just as much with her Rome performance as she did with the dud in Madrid....I'd say that at least 90% of the battle is mental. If Heinz can somehow manage to break through to Ana again, then she could surpise us at RG like she shocked us at Foro Italico....I'm not ready to give up:cool:,despite today's disaster

Haven't seen the match but probably I missed something.
Only 11 times broken and 12 DF's. What's there to complain about?
In her bad period she beat Dementieva and Azarenka but loses against JJ and Sveta? Is everything upside down? Then she better draws players with a bad H2H.

Sounds like Ana was brainless again. That probably never happens. Even in her good times the head wasn't there. Not know what this means for RG. Probably nothing. She can't play good for 2 tournaments in a row anyway.
Just hope for the best now at RG. 1 third round loss and 3 times a QF or further in the 5 times she played it.

Ana always hits one or 2 FH rockets. It means nothing in the context of the match. She was pushing.. all her shots were short... there were so many shanks and mishits and framed shots, many of those are not in the W-UEs stat. She played at the same level as Fed Cup. Just that she had an opponent who couldn't find the court for a set and a half. And worse.. she was beyond stupid in this match. Just plain dumb.

I do agree with the rest... her goal should be to defend last years points. She will have to be extremely lucky with the draw to be able to do that though.

And she should get rid of the pusher mentality right now! Just swing freely.. everytime she did go for her shots she would end up winning the point. But now... she would make Wozniacki proud today.

At the end of the day though.. it's the mental side that kills her. Playing like crap and all she could (and should) have won this match. But midway through the second set, when she was @#!@# leading, she just freaked out and gave up. I have never seen someone being this stupid.. really.

Anyways very little respect left for me for JJ now:o

Its a choke, but we know now that Ana can push the players that are in the top 10 to their limits. She just needs to change her attitude and get her head together. She needs to fight for every point even if she is 0-5, 0-40 down. She was way too passive today. And her serving, my god, did she think she was Serena williams or something? She kept hitting those serves as hard as she could without thinking about the tosses or placement. The result: 12 DF.

i didn't see the match, but the choke, the reports of her being passive, the crap she said on court (i cannot see the ball), it looks like she took a step back from Rome. It's the same level of 2009 clay season, she puts herself in a position to win and chokes instead of fighting. she was able to fight against Azarenka, Dementieva and Petrova despite them rising their levels in the 2nd set, so i wonder why she couldn't today?:o I'm a bit disappointed...

Oh she choked.. big time.. on many ocasions during the match. Heinz told her so.. but the worst part is that she doesn't recognize it.. telling him she was not choking.

The way the match was going, to waste a 2-0 lead was normal. What she couldn't have let happen was to lose her serve 3 times in a row from 30-0 up. The first time she even wasted GPs. The last 2, she plain lost 4 points in a row. That was the major choke.

But well... In the middle of the second set, while leading, she was already calling Heinz on court to complain about each and everything.. so you imagine how she was a complete nervous wreck.

She was serving to the net 5 out of 10 times.. that happened. And she couldn't win a point on second serves, and not because JJ was good.. but because she could frame or mishit or shank the second shot. I can't take the 4-4 game in the second set from my head. 30-0 up... JJ hits a lucky winner... barely caught the line. Ana calls Kader.. he confirms it being in. Ana barely wins points after that. She zoned out of the match at that point. It was double fault for 30-30.. Ugly UE for 30-40.. and a WTF?! shot to get broken. She had the whole DTL open, and seemed to go for it with JJ on the far CC corner.. and then at the very last minute she changed to a CC drop shot that barely hit the net. :o

I don't think the main reason for her to lose was the serve. It was her head.. a bit more fight in the end of the second set, she would have won it. Remember when she held for 5-4 against Petrova in the second set in Rome? She was super fired up... or when she took the set to a tie break against Lena D? Fired up.. From the moment she called Heinz to complain, and didn't listen to anything he said, Ana looked totally deflated. There was already no fight there..

There was already no fight there..

then maybe heinz is not connecting with her much? maybe she's calling him to get fired up but then she doesn't like what he says and stops fighting... but yes this choke worries me again, i just hope for a lucky draw in paris:o

If we look at Madrid though.. I think it will be the most irrelevant tournament regarding RG. The only RG contender still in it, IMHO, is JJ.. and she could have very well lost today.. If she wasn't playing a dumb serveless player she proabably would, because she was awful.

Yes.. what's up with only hitting to JJ's BH? I was puzzled as well.. :help:

i read JJ was hitting on Ana's BH constantly, so maybe ana was forced to play CC because she was not in good position to hit DTL? I don't know, she was winning the BH exchanges against Dementieva (who's BH is not that good though)... maybe she had to try to run around the BH and hit a FH? i don't know i'm puzzled and i don't want to see this match either:o

Yes.. but even when Ana had a chance.. she was always hitting to the BH. There were a couple of points she had a short ball.. that she hit an approach shot to JJ's BH. Needless to say she got passed and lobbed. Ana should have gone to JJ's forehand both times.. JJ would probably not even reach it. One of those was on Ana's serve at *2-0 in the second. It cost her the game.

I wonder if Ana will fight a bit more in her RG match. Because really... where was the Ana who fought so hard for every single match? Even during these past 2 years of hell.. Ana would often put up some fight.. even if she choked and lost in the end. Her last few losses.. since Fed Cup.. have been marked by the fact that she simply gave up.

When Ana was playing agressive and hitting the ball hard she won the point. But most of the time she did not construct the point at all. She just pushed the ball over the net into JJs backhand or in the middle of the court. She had no gameplan today. If she did have one, she did not follow it. She freaked out and started hitting balls left and right. I don't like how she gives up as soon as she finds herself behind in a set! Where is her fighting spirit? Where is Ana from the AO! :tears:. Do you guys rememeber the article where she says she doesn't fear losing anymore? Well that is evident. Because she is not fighting.

Just don't give up Ana, please!
