Interesting Bruce! Thanks!

As we've talked about this many times, you know how I believe this is the root of all problems.. unfortunately I don't think Ana even admits it.. so..Even though the article focused mostly on Dinara...it really hit me hard how perfectly the negative mentalities described Ana.You're 100% right that she won't admit it publicly...but she's delusional,NOT completely insane...so there's a part of her, deep down, that knows this is all true....I hope that it bothers her and gnaws away at her until, one day,she just can't stand it anymore...and is forced to take action for her peace of mind

Rome draw should be up saturday, right? Or is it sunday?

Not that it matters much..

Ana has 110 points to defend, so she will probably fall down the rankings a bit more. Not much though.. Without those points she is 62 in this weeks rankings.

i saw ana is 62 in the race, i thought she was out of the top 100... this means if she plays some MM or she has a good run she could finish the year in the top 40, that would be good because it would stop the slide...

I don't know how she doesn't show she wants it more and recommits after 2 years of awful play.. so nothing might surprise me coming from Ana. She might just never get out of her little cocoon.

Unfortunately I don't think finishing top 40 would do much to Ana's head.. and heart. Maybe if that's all she gets, she will be even more discouraged.

One thing I agree though... it might be the best thing we can expect from her.. a top 40 finish. I don't think she will be playing any MM apart from Rosmalen though. She has already been announced by both San Diego and Montreal, and there is no tournaments besides ITFs during the week of Cinci. I actually think she will end her year after China Open.. so when could she add the MM? Maybe july? But we know that's WAG month (Adam's birthday is July 15th).. and after the USO? She never plays at this point of the year.. Time is gone..

well she could think that despite being at an all time low she is still top 40, it would be a great achievement in my opinion... where did she get her points, i guess only brisbane and AO right? after that didn't she lose 1st round everytime?:tape:

I don't think top 40 is a consolation prize for Ana unfortunately.. she still sees herself as something else. But it would be some achievement yes.

Right now.. counting towards her ranking, she has I think (anyone correct me if I'm wrong, because this is from the top of my head):

Brisbane 2010: 130 points
AO 2010: 100 points
Miami 2010: 85 points
Rome 2009: 110 points
RG 2009: 280 points
Eastbourne 2009: 1 point
Wimbledon 2009: 280 points
LA 2009: 60 points
Cinci 2009: 60 points
Toronto 2009: 60 points
USO 2009: 5 points
Tokyo 2009: 1 point

So for the race she has the points from Brisbane, AO and Miami.

Yes.. it's her best shot at a decent draw, as there are 8 byes. So she can get someone middle ranked..

I agree that when she wakes up from this she will regret neglecting her tennis for such a long time. She will regret it a lot.. but maybe this moment will come when there is just nothing left to do. :shrug:Someday many years from now,Ana might be surfing the net and stumble across one of those empty puff articles by some sycophantic Aussie journalist who wants to 'shine Adam's little putter'...and the moronic,'expert' journalist's caption will read,"Ana looks happy."-----and then Ana will think to herself,":rolleyes:You mean,'blissfully retarded and naive'."

Got a scenario for you,Izzy...in fact, any woman is welcome to answer cuz I'd like to get your female intuition on this...though guys are welcome, too,if they feel called:angel::

Let's say that a volcano erupted in mid-December 2008...and Ana never attended that Rolex event...and Ana's Spanish was a little better...and Nando was a little wiser, maybe even knew how to mentally manipulate Ana like the Anal Tumor does...would we be seeing ANY difference now??Or would Ana have found a reason to quit anyway...perhaps WAGging at Nando's ATP events??To ME,the decline started during the offseason before 2009.Ana still fought hard, despite a nasty virus,at YEC 2008,and she showed plenty of signs of her old self prior to that in Zurich and Linz. She had ONE nice match vs. AMG at Fed Cup,and I consider Wimby's first three rounds in 2009 as an illusion. You've always said that Ana gets no luck...but she DID get lucky at Wimbledon for a while...with a weak draw of lousy grass-courters...Stosur's weakest surface BY FAR...and before Sam found her groove last year(she later destroyed Ana)...let's not forget Errani and Hradecka,crash-test dummies on grass...and Ana needed a choke from Lucie to get her 1st-Round win.Although Ana's 'injury' may have discouraged her(I still have major doubts about how serious the 'magic muscle tear' was),she knew deep down that Vee was kicking her ass and Ana's health had NO impact on the outcome...she was READY to quit.Ana may've gotten swept up in the fan hype with her wins b/c she is controlled by her base emotions, but true commitment to tennis was NEVER there,IMO.Basically,I'm saying that Ana has been mentally quitting more and more since that infamous off-season.She might pay millions for a Magic Wand that helped her get wins via mystical powers, but she won't risk facing her fear of failure by going all in....It's one of her psychological defenses,I'd say. What do you think??

Hey Jelena!

Ana can beat Vesnina IMHO. But she has to go out there more focused and more determined.. like Kiristea says, win the points that matter. Vesnina is no slouch but isn't great either.. If Ana walks in like she has been in the past couple of months, she will probably lose though... Her attitude sucks.. she needs some fire.

Vika is number 9 seed and Dementieva number 6. Seeds 5-8 meet seeds 9-12 in round 3. ;)

And I also wish she would stop doing these things.. but her manager is probably desperate to make her keep some sort of relevance and do promotion..

Vesnina is about #30 ranked right now, but at clay she is somewhere about #60. On other hand Ana is currently about #60 (WTA and FHM both ;)), but at clay she is still at least TOP30.

Walkover in 2nd round vs injured Azarenka is not that good for Ana because she needs more matches, but at least she will defend her 2009 Rome points.

Win in 3rd round match against Dementieva not seems realistic right now, but if Ana somehow survive everything will be possible in Rome! BTW red clay in Rome is faster than in Paris or Madrid (or Berlin from past), so no surprise why at this red clay event Ana results are much worse than at Berlin or Paris.

I don't like it either.. she is like a commodity right now.. doing anything... everytime someone needs to promote a tournament, they call her because she is always available..

because she is always available.. still real WTA tour superstar! That is reason why Ana this season draws WTA part of Main Draw in Melbourne at AO GS (or here in Rome), that's why she replace injured Serena from BJK Cup in New York instead any other WTA player with much better 2009 GS results than Ana, that's why Ivanovic is central figure in promotion of Madrid masters together with Madrid mayor, Spanish tennis legend Santana and tournament president ex-ATP and billionaire Tiriac, and that's why on her Stuttgart 1st round match no empty seed (despite that night Bayern played Champions league semifinal)...

All this is actually very good for Ana because she will feel and realize how so many people really care about her, which probably will motivate her to not give up of tennis if this big slump still continue!

InsideOut.

The best thing about this draw is that Ana most likely won't get bagelled since Vesnina will make a few errors here or there.

I really don't know..:lol:Yeah,I'll admit that speculation is an inexact science....I was just wondering partly because a half-decent ATP bf might,theoretically-speaking,do Ana some good....So,if there are any male tennis players out there--guys with honest character--who are interested in Ana...then just let me know...and we'll make plans to remove that short-term Douchebag obstacle who's in your path right now............Btw,Izzy,I'd say that the Tumor was just a flash-in-the-pan...that he was never that talented. When you consider how the PGA desperately wants to fight its image as a geriatric sport(if it even IS a sport),they just picked some pretty-boy type,a male Kournikova of sorts(only less skilled),to market golf to women and young people.According to some of his helmet-shiners,he played really well at the Masters.....but he finished in EIGHTEENTH place...FIFTEEN shots off the lead:haha::haha:.He should pursue that boxing career I suggested for him a couple months back;Mike Tyson is fairly old now....Adam's ready for him!!:p;)

So i`m watching JJ vs Justine
When the match started i cheered for JJ
From 4-4 and 2 games on Justine`s serve went to multiple deuces plus TB JJ hit 1(one) winner
I seriously don`t understand these kind of players.I really don`t :tape::o:help:

You are supposed to win important points, big points...matches. They are not going to handed to you when you face a good player
Pathetic really :o
And then her fans wander why she hasn`t won a slam, why she couldn`t beat Justine at USO or Ana at RG

Btw Justine serve and return are horrible.I never saw JJ had so many free points on her serve against someone :lol: JJ had 100% points won on second serve :lol:

New article on Ana on Rome website.

http://www.internazionalibnlditalia.it/1/PopNews.asp?LNG=EN&IDNews=560

From world No.1 in June 2008 to No.57 in April 2010, Ana Ivanovic’s career has gone off the rails in quite spectacular fashion.

Her changes in coach, ups and downs in her private life and the inability to get any kind of winning run together have been well documented over the past two years, but she is still one of the poster girls for women’s tennis, and as such was a logical choice to perform the draw ceremony for the WTA leg of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.

“I definitely feel that I’m playing better thanks to my new coach (Swiss Davis Cup legend Heinz Gunthardt). I’m more confident and I enjoy going onto the court. I try not to think about the past but I think it’s better to look towards the future.”

The immediate future is a first round tie against Elena Vesnina, a player ranked 25 places above her in the world. “It doesn’t matter – it’s to be expected when you are an unseeded player like me, you are bound to play against seeded players,” said the 22-year-old who, if she gets through that first test will face No.9 Victoria Azarenka. “I think it is more important to concentrate more on my game and anyway, a lot of these big players I have already played against and won.”

She has indeed beaten most of the circuit’s top players, but not everyone would expect her to be able to compete with the best once again. Does she herself still have the belief that she can make it back to the very top? “Yes, definitely. I think I have the game for that. Maybe I will not be exactly what I was in the past but I will be a complete player thanks to the experience that I have built up in the past. There are so many things that I am working on. I am such a perfectionist but I tend to rush, especially in the past. In the past few months I have been working very hard but with no results and so I decided that I should be patient and build up my game gradually.”

However gradually it may be and however much patience it requires, the return of Ana Ivanovic to anything resembling the peak of her powers would be very good news for women’s tennis.

Is that why you're having panic attacks Ana?

I think i`ts different with tennis players
Most of them didn`t go to regular elementary school not to mention high school, and that part of growing up is missing. Also they are always with the same people, same environment....All of that can not be healthy and it leaves consequences. Ofc it`s good for their tennis results

I guess many women get that mental stability after having children  Just look at Kim

Also Ana and other girls are very attached to their families even more than boys. Dragana is going with Ana even on her practices ,same with JJ and her mother

I think Ana is reluctant to join twitter or anything on internet because she just doesn't want to read anything about herself. In one of those interviews she gave in Madrid couple of weeks ago she said she doesn't read anything about herself because whatever she reads she just takes it too much to heart. So she is probably afraid to read people criticizing her, because that would hurt her deeply.

I have an opinion on that.. but I'll just leave at people should know how to deal wisely with constructive criticism, and know how to ignore the destructive ones.

Anyway.. really nice of Andrea to ask Ana about it. She always comes accross as a very cool girl. I wish Ana can play some more doubles with her in the future.

The number '6' is often cited in numerology as representative of the devil,so it's only fitting that Lapushchenkova won 6 matches in Stuttgart as the reward of her pact with him.I hope she enjoyed herself enough to offset her torment when's she burning in the eternal Abyss:p.Currently,in the Anna/Ana competition,it's:

Lapushchenkova 6
Ivanovic 5

I check odds of Ana 1st round match and Ana is finally noted like favorite against some better ranked player. W.Hill odds on Ana is 1.67 vs 2.10 Vesnina. BTW W.Hill give odds on Ana to win title in Rome 67.00 :help: and on Pennetta 21.00, but W.Hill odds to win Roland Garros where competition is much stronger (all best compete, including Henin) on Ivanovic is 34.00 and on Pennetta is 101.00 :spit: (same bookmaker, same surface, same month, but odds is so opposite about this two).

My friend said she met Ana's aunt yesterday :speakles: In Holland, she is working there at the moment. So cool :lol:How fitting to hear from you right now, because the lovely German ANNA-Lena in your avy is currently in 2nd place for most wins by an Ana/Anna/Anne in 2010.Despite injury setbacks,Groenefeld has 8 WTA wins, just two behind the Georgian Anna Tatishvili who has 10.Our lovely Serbian Ana is in a three-way tie with Chaky and Keothavong who both have five, too

I won`t be able to see it ,maybe someone will record it if there are any streams

About Ana's breathing problems or panic attacks, why would she have them in some meaningless match and while she was losing anyway
She lost to Aga a few weeks before and she didn`t have breathing problems

She had some breathing problems during her match against Vika at RG,i can understand that. But why would she have it in this match ?
I could say that playing more tournaments would help her with this problem but what`s the point
She doesn`t want to play more anyway

A win and not even a BP faced. That's a long time ago.

Overall it's indeed improving.

Hey, Vesnina sucked or what? I wish all Ana opponents played this bad!

Ana had some nice serves though. I liked that.. only 2 bad tosses in the whole match, which looks good to me! The BH is still a mess.. she can't sustain a rally with it, so she opted to slice a LOT. That can be good (not that many shanks, though there were a couple of really bad ones), and bad (some Woz worthy pushing going on).

One think that sounds almost like a miracle.. first match in ages that Ana didn't even face BP. :worship:

But I think it was pretty clear from her interview that she has no faith in herself for tomorrow. I don't think that she believes she can beat Vika. My only hope is that Vika plays Vesnina like, and gifts Ana the match.. otherwise it might just be her 11th straight top 10 loss. Vika is already a bad match up for Ana.

Good thing is that they will have a night match again. Less wind.. Last match on Pietrangeli court.

:D:D:D I had to go to class RIGHT as her match was starting,so I missed this piece of excellent news....It doesn't matter to me that Vesnina played like crap b/c rock-bottom Ana STILL would've found a way to lose. Also,I'll call this BETTER than the Stosur win for a couple key reasons: (1).Ana was still totally deluding herself back then.(2).it was a fluke victory, and Sam would've annihilated Ana on any other surface.(3)Although she was emotionally lifted by the crowd support with her wins,it was a shallow, artificial lift...as we saw by how easily she quit on 2009 following the loss to Venus...using the 'injury' as an excuse for the loss when it had NOTHINg to do with the outcome...aye DO believe that she may've had one of her panic attacks that prompted her to default when she could've kept playing. She appears at least somewhat more motivated now...despite her less-than-busy schedule(4)Ana FINALLY has the right guidance in Heinz,so she can properly build upon this victory--with his help--if she puts it in the correct perspective.

This win doesn't make Ana's psychological issues disappear;left untreated, they'll just return in force someday whenever the conditions are in place. However,we know that she needs some wins to develop even more trust in Heinz as a coach....Once she's 100% sure that he can put her on the winning track,THEN she'll be more open to him when he suggests that taboo subject of counselling for Ana...assuming that he hasn't already...which he might've.........I don't hate Vika like many other posters here, but I'll go :banana: if Ana beats her tomorrow

And about the BH.. if it can't stand rallies, it gets hard. Everyone picks on Ana's BH. Vesnina was just making waaay too many UEs.

I watching just last 5 games at some internet cafe and which is worst match at "Belgrade Open" (ATP) which forced me to miss this is so bored  (and only bored tennis matches which I prefer to watch is when Ana involved and dominate ... like this one against Vesnina).

Like I say after draw into w.w.w. GM poll thread - Ana at her worst is still TOP30 player at clay and Vesnina at her best is still out of TOP50, so 6-1 6-3 is not that surprise scoreline like it seems.

BTW why in thread title CLAY is still noted like Ana current enemy  Clay is her best friend
At least we finish with that "Sucky Server" definition... I not watched Ana in 1st set, but her serve stats seems Roddick-Like :yeah:

Ivanovic will play tomorrow night match again, but against Azarenka is really hard to give some serious prediction because nobody really knows how Ana really improve in past couple weeks, and also how Azarenka recovered from her injury problems (Vesnina and Karantantcheva is simple not good enough "sparing partners" for serious conclusions).

Win is a win, but win vs TOP10 will be real deal :rocker2:

One thing you guys haven't mentioned yet:Service Return.Vika's feeble,non-threatening serve couldn't even do much damage on GRASS,let alone clay. It's possible that Ana could smack some winners off Vika's even-weaker-than-normal second serve...and she might even have the confidence to step in on some first serves,too....I hope she does.

Another point:I don't believe that false hype does much to build a player's confidence...almost never,really...and I don't think that Heinz plays along at all when/if Ana claims that she's hitting the ball better than ever...though I'll bet he has a tactful way of telling her that such claims are B.S..Maybe Ana only feeds that garbage to the media, but it wouldn't surprise me AT ALL if Sven played along with it:rolleyes:.I'm sure that Heinz focuses on building LEGIT confidence in Ana instead of trying to use absurd false hype to artificially raise self-esteem

Well, Clay isn't her best friend - more a part of her. And currently, she not just has to face an opponent on the other side of the net, but also on her very own side. Between her ears. In this sense she's constantly fighting herself. Her own biggest enemy. Hence the "Cassius Clay" aka. "Muhammed Ali" aka. "The Greatest" reference. ;)

Proper test coming up now. Elena V has not been that good recently, and it's not clear that her thigh has been at 100%. It is also not clear whether Vika is at 100%, but I suspect she is in much better shape than Elena V was. If I'm optimistic, perhaps Ana has a 50-50 shot. Much depends on what kind of impact Ana can have with her serve and return. Lapushchenkova ripped Vika's serve to shreds, but she is incredibly aggressive on return. Ana must also be aggressive.

Elena Vesnina was awful.. she helped Ana a lot by not returning many serves. I'm sure Vika will get a lot more balls on court out of the return of serve. And that usually puts pressure on Ana.

As for Ana's ROS, it was not that good. Sure, she had some return winners, but whenever Lena V hit the serve to Ana's BH it was either a weak slice or a shank. So if Vika picks on that, it can get tough.

I hope Ana uses variations of speed and high balls with her BH, because that bothers Vika to no end. And attacks with her forehand at any opportunity, obviously. And fights hard, because she will need to.

I don't have much hope, as I think Ana is too slow right now to keep up with rallies, but I REALLY hope she can pull out a surprise.

Moonballs and slices with her backhand to Vika really would annoy her so much, she has a lot of trouble dealing with deep high balls especially to her forehand. Particularly with the way she hits her forehand, it makes it harder for her to generate pace from high up, behind the baseline. The only danger with that tactic is letting them drop too short and then they get put away. Also, whether Ana will be able to think clearly enough for the whole match to stick with the right tactics. I don't think she will win, but I really really hope she does  Even if I think I will fall asleep before it starts, thanks to the super long fast match.

Ahhhh...scoreboard watching...no surprise that Ana dropped the first game...slow starts aren't unusual even for SOLID players....1-2 for now......Wanna add to the previous post:A lovely gal bought me a men's designer watch as a gift, but I valued it even more b/c of who the giver was. However,if anyone ever bought me a Rolex as a gift, then I'd make up some tactful excuse....I'd say that I could never wear Rolex b/c they exploit child slave labor...which they probably DO when you consider the slimy sh-tbags who attend some of their promo events(not YOU,sweet Caro:angel:).I'd thank the gift-giver and ,to spare his/her feelings, tell him/her that I'd trade in the Rolex for a watch of another brand

I thought she would lose after the first 2 games, she started so nervously, her first toss was way off,she complained after the first dubious call, terrible body language all around. Then she realised that Azarenka wasn't anythin special and raised her level. As i wrote on Gm after the time out i thought Azarenka played much better, cut down the errors and was hittin deep leavin Ana defending behind the baseline. Then the geniuses of Italian tv switched to Camerin-Wozniacki..i'd like to believe that Ana raised her level again and started blasting winners left and right ..
I'm no tennis expert but i thought her backhand was way better today than a week before, there weren't many puffballs..she hit plenty of them actually hard even though always cross court..

gaviotabr
May 4th, 2010, 07:36 PM
Okay so.. the match..

I saw it until they changed to Caro, obviously.. but I thought even though Vika was injured, Ana was being able to hang in rallies, which is a positive. Her BH is still shaky, and her FH was erractic in patches.. she was still slow.. but she remained calm and had some nice serves. She had twice as many bad tosses then yesterday, thus commiting more DFs.. but she also had some good serves. Heinz has definitely helped Ana with the serve. It was definitely still far from what Ana once was.. but a step foward nonetheless.

I hope she takes a huge confidence boost out of this, and fights hard against Dementieva tomorrow. IMHO Dementieva is like Azarenka, they have similar games.. but Lena D won't be hampered like Vika was today.. so it will be a lot tougher. Apart from Ana having that dreadful h2h with her. I want to see her fighting hard and improving from today. Whatever will be will be.. at least she defended her points!

I actually agree with your view on the match. I thought the BH was holding better today then against ARad. And that after the time out Vika played better.

Yeah, they have. But I guess its just a part of the process? Maybe she will start using more power when she finds some form again and her game returns. She probably doesn't want to overdue the powerhitting, she'll just end up making an UE. Hopefully she'll start blasting winners from all over the court soon :D :bounce:

Folks,I get premonitions sometimes...most of them negative...for example,I had one about Chris Farley right before he died.On rare occasions,I even get visions--specific,detailed ones--in my dreams.......but,for the first time since 2008,I had a GOOD premonition about Ana.When she tied it at 4-4 in the 1st and Vika took a med timeout, that was a classic Ana-killer right there...yet she held her composure and closed out the set fairly easily.THAT'S when I knew that Ana was on the right track...and that she would win this match.Even when she was down 0-2 when I left for class,I said to myself,"She's gonna win:D"

The Stosur win at Wimby was nothing...just a lucky fluke(I could see the Venus Storm on the horizon);Ana was letting her emotions get caught up by the fan support, but her confidence was never rooted deeply...and that was proven by the aftermath.Ana finally has someone who can help lay the foundation for TRUE poise and confidence...something that won't depend on Ana's mood or base emotions...something that can take her to legit champion status like Heinz's famous former client.

I don't believe in idol worship,really,but....HEINZ:worship::worship::wors hip:.To you Anapolis residents,if that no-talent Aussie pile of goat manure ever does anything to disrupt one of Heinz's practice sessions with Ana...or pisses him off in ANY way....Then let ME know about it,and I'll "relocate" that worthless, slimy parasite so that he can get re-acquainted with his grub worm cousins a few feet beneath the surface

Ana might still need a while to polish her rough edges, but I'm SURE now that she's on the correct path:D....You'll forgive me if I can't root against Elena:angel:,who epitomizes the word 'class'...can't root against Ana,either,though...so I'll just sit back and await the result. If it's any consolation to Ana fans,Olympic(Slam)Queen Elena is half-ready to call it quits and have at least one child,IMO.I think she'll retire at year's end if Maxim proposes to her...so maybe Ana has a decent shot if she keeps the UEs and DFs low...just a thought

Not sure. He's a Maria fan. Don't know if he posts outside of The Siberian Siren, but the stuff he posts sometimes is madd wickedd!:lol:Fortunately,I falsely interpreted Izzy's post a little while back.Normally, she reads Ana so well, and she claimed that Ana looked disinterested, unmotivated in practicing.I said to myself,"How in the f--k could she be unmotivated NOW?" I figured that she had arrived in Vaidisovatown...now,in hindsight,we can surmise that Ana may've had a headache or some other small, nagging illness that day. There's no way that Ana could have done what she did--from the low level where she WAS--if she weren't at least partially motivated and working on things with Heinz. At some point,he may have even challenged her: "Do you REALLY care about tennis anymore?Don't b.s. me"

Unless some calamitous injury--a REAL one--saps her confidence,Ana is gonna trust Heinz now that she's getting better results:),and we'll eventually see improvements in all aspects of her game...........yes,even the backhand:p

I'm probably less shocked and surprised with this result than anybody here :p, but to be honest I must to confess that I really didn't expect that Ana first "big win" will looks like this where she won both sets 6-4 after failing 2-4 :eek::eek: Especially if we know that in all matches in near past when Ana finally shows some signs of improvement (against Kim that 6-7 EXO set-match, or against 2xRadwanska 5-7 5-7 6-7 4-6) she actually always blew it in finish of all this sets. Talking about good signs of improvements I was shocked after 4 opening games at 1-3 when Ana 1st serve in was 22% and Vika 100% :tape: so I was asking myself where all that signs are disappear. It seems in that moment that this will be copycat of theirs RG/09 match when Ana and Vika TOGETHER trashed Ivanovic, but thanks God this match very soon going in totally opposite direction.

Dementieva is worst possible opponent at the moment for Ana but if she survive tomorrow Ivanovic will become serious Rome title contender! If she lose, but with good fight, we have reasons to believe that in Madrid she will looks even better. But let's see tomorrows match. Ana playing once again night match (Centre Court) which obviously suits to her. Guys.. I know we are all excited and happy for Ana's first top 10 win in ages.. but there is another match today, and I think we should get out feet back on the ground. Beating a hobled Vika doesn't mean Ana is back or anything.. We can definitely see it as something positive, as a step foward. But Ana still has miles and miles.. and miles to go before we can say she is back. One win means nothing if she doesn't back it up.. if not here, then in the following tournaments. Ana needs to keep improving her game (which still looks fragile), her mind and she needs to perform at a consistent basis so we can actually envision her getting back to the top 10 again. So.. after one day of enjoying her win, it's time to get back to reality and to realize this is just one step that alone won't change much of anything.

As for today.. Dementieva is a bad match up for Ana, as the h2h confirms, so it will be very very tough. She is steady, brings lots of balls back, and likes high paced rallies. Ana is still slow, and Dementieva will try to get her into BH CC to BH CC rallies, which are the doom of Ana in this match up IMHO. Her BH just doesn't hold out.. against Dementieva you have to hit the BH DTL. I'm also curious to see how Ana handles all of this mentally... she was never really good in refocusing in a short period of time, and I'm sure she was over the moon yesterday with her top 10 win. I hope Heinz works on this with her and gets her to be compeletely in today's match, and fighting really hard for it.

I really have a hard time thinking Ana might lose 5 times in a row against Lena D, and I really hope Ana just comes out focused, determined and improved, and surprises everyone once again.. but reality is Lena D is probably still too strong for Ana right now. So we should just calm down and keep our hopes and expectations as low as posible.

FAMK
May 5th, 2010, 01:10 PM
I agree. By no means is Ana 'back'. She's got a long way to go before we can safely say she is. She can't be back with just random big wins here and there. It's got to be consistent.
But we all deserve to be happy she won. Even if Vika was injured, it's the fact Ana focused and didn't get ahead of herself.
I don't expect her to win against Elena, but hope we see some good signs.
