In current form, Carol easily.

Unless Janko can paint the line at will or Carol brainfarts, Janko doesn't have a chance.

I think JJ might be disadvantaged by playing Stosur beforehand - not exactly the best lead up to a finals. I can see Caro winning this, but JJ may prove me wrong. I'm no good at prognostication - best to let Anna K. read the tea leaves and hear what s/he has to say on the matter...

I'm gonna go with Caro.

Jankovic has not displayed any decent form of aggression/point construction/defense-into-attack. OTOH, from the one match I saw, she threw quite a bit of stupid UE. Her backhand is not as potent as 07/08 and her forehand is actually weaker, despite the improved serve.

My sense is that Pushniacki will be back in full force. She will push and grind her way into the middle of the court. Watch out for endless rallies that will mostly end with a Jankovic error.

Bronx19
Mar 20th, 2010, 07:05 AM
Jankovic is still very inconsistent, and almost choked up serving it out today. Sam was easily handling Janka for the first two games, and then it all fell apart. Janka resorted to just hitting the ball up the middle of the court at semi pace hoping for a Stosur error, and it almost backfired.

Woza on the other hand, I thought was very impressive today. She is patient, very consistent, and I was surprised to see how aggressive she was. Plenty of line balls and serving well.

Their last meeting at Doha is to be ignored, Woza was a walking cripple. I feel its time for the tide to turn here, and Woza will be too fit, too fast, too consistent and just too much for an out of form Janka.

I think that future "worst #1 ever" is not favorite today despite all problems which we notice from Jankovic in last more than year. After very good FED CUP performances and several back to back straight sets wins vs solid opponents here, it seems that good-old JJ is back! And peak JJ >> peak Caro even in "pushing" category.

Turn it up, she is not back at all.

Since Fed Cup she has lost 6-2/6-3 to Vera, 5-7/6-4/6-4 to sevastova and barely survived Errani who had her 2-6/2-4 before choking. Errani is a moon balling pusher several levels bellow Woza.

Acapulco Mickey Mouse warm-up event and early round troubles vs mediocre player means nothing (Caro has even bigger problems vs King in opening match here at 5-7 6-2 1-4). So Yes... she is back!

If that makes you feel better, yeah, she is back and will finally win a Major. If she wins this event it will be actually her biggest career title so far - what better proof You want that she is back? She played already some two-weeker finals in past (USO and Miami) but always Serena prevent her to reach title. Jelena won already several tier-I titles (unlike Wozniacki) but Premier Mandatory 4.5M two-weeker IW will be biggest if she wins.

On other hand Caroline Wozniacki (despite #2 ranking next monday) never before won bigger than 600K WTA tournament and all pressure will be on her, so I not agree that she is favorite tomorrow. JJ chances is at least 50%.

I think there's pretty big pressure on both.

Jankovic is the bigger name and more experienced and accomplished player and has a record of beating Caroline so a lot of people will be expecting her to win.

I'd imagine she has pretty high expectations to herself seeing as she beat Caroline at previous meetings and it would suck for her to lose for the first time to her at an Indian Wells final.

If Caroline comes out blazing, she might get really frustrated that things aren't going her way like usual...

Caroline, on the other hand, gets extra motivated when facing players that beat her. She already dispatched of two other players at IW that she hadn't managed to beat before this tournament and will be looking to make Jankovic the third.

Should be a good match.

Mar 20th, 2010, 08:31 AM
I think the match will start out like their 08 matches with Caro outsteadying JJ from the baseline in the first set. JJ then tries to be more agressive, but Caro has gotten more depth and variety in her game than 2 years ago and forces JJ to hit too many errors when trying to come forward. Caro in 2.

My predictions is not based on theirs JJ lead 3-0 h2h which is IMO corrupted by fact that Wozniacki only at last one played like member of WTA TOP10/TOP5. I'm talking about fact that Caro so far at "big finals" (tournaments with 1M$+ money prize) still not won any SET (vs Clijsters, Safina and even Lisicki). On other hand Jelena played so far 9 big finals (1M$+) where only multiple slam winners SerenaX2, Henin and Sharapova is able to beat her. All other opponents (SafinaX2, Kuznetsova, Zvonareva and Cornet) all together not win even one single SET in all this "big finals" against JJ!

Form is here and now, I gave examples of form since post Fed Cup. I dont disagree she palyed great against Kuzy and Kley. As for in form players, Kleybanova had a mental break down whilst dominating Janka, probably due to fatigue. As for Stosur, please, her serving percentage has been dire, and if you watched her last two matches, she most certainly isnt hitting the ball well at all, thus why she was belted today.

We will see how it goes, but I foresee Janka having serious problems.

TBH I think Caro will be too much for JJ to handle with Jelena's current level. She's not going to get the UEs she's been getting from Caro. And Caro was getting closer to beating Jelena when they played in 2008 when Jelena was playing much better than nowadays (I discount YEC 2009 when Caro was injured).

I think Jankovic is extremely lucky how her draw broke. It's like a Tier III to the final. Errani, Alisa was exhausted and Stosur choked.
The whole question is how nervous Wozniacki is.
She has never won this big a title and was letting Radwanska in the match in the SF.

What ? Stosur did NOT choke. Jelena almost choked in the end.Maybe choked is not the word, but only 54% 1st serves and about 50 errors. She was feeling the pressure of the match. So did Caro and Aga.
Jelena is the player who has been in these kinds of matches.
But I thought Jelena was tremendous in summer/fall of 2008. I still think she is far away from that now, but can win if Caro doesnt play like she did against Nadia and Maria

i really would like to see Jelena back in the swing of things, and i think she has a good shot at this title and thus bolstering her confidence. for me it seems that Caroline needs to be consistant and her opponent to be missing to really have a chance at all. shes capable of good shots, but more often than not she wins on unforced errors, and forced errors as well. many players at their best will blow her off the court, and even Jelena--a player not known for her power--can defeat her just by being more aggressive. Jelena i think will realize this and win the title, but hey, its really anybody's guess.

Hey, she won the Stockholm-GOAT-tournament in 2008 :wavey:

:spit:

 Not sure how funny or relevant that is considering she was ranked only in the 40s and 50s then. And that tournament had some good players like Radwanska, Szavay and Srebotnik.

I think Caro will come through in three sets. Aside from the King match, I've seen all her matches this week it's hard to see her losing. Jelena is not hitting cleanly enough to hit winners left, right and centre, which someone needs to do to beat Caroline.

Jelena leads Caro 3-0 so I'm not going to make any bold predictions for Caroline taking out Jelena. It's a tough match-up for Caroline as Jelena is one of the more mentally strong players and on top of that she usually deals well with Caroline's style play. She also has more experience playing these big finals. If they both play their best, it's going to be a close match.

Jelena should take this unless she comes out completely flat. Even in her current shaky form, she's fairly good at taking balls on the rise and that will be enough to force the issue. If the backhand DTL is clicking (forcing a short ball from the Woz forehand) , then it will be an easy straight sets win for Jelena regardless of how Caro plays.

Interesting poll result so far. One of those times when the poll here is different to the bookies odds where Caro is a 7-10 favourite (Jelena is 59-50)

Tbh with JJ you never know, she brainfarted Beijing 2007 against Szavay but without any meltdowns of that size, she will win. Wozniacki doesn't know anything but to push, and like before can be easily outplayed by JaJa.

Did you take my picture!?

No, I found it on google. But since you found it first anyway, I changed mine. :)
