Yes. I can't believe she hasn't won a major yet. She is really good. That stat is still shocking to me.

While I do like it, she is a bit One-Dimensional.

I liked it more when she was younger, but I love seeing her hit crisp forehand winners. And sometimes her movement and footwork are absolute treats to watch.

I like her game style. She is one dimensional, but I find her excellent at what it is she does best.

Not really, it's kinda boring after a while. Flat/Slice serve, flat groundies throughout, occasionally volleys. Not much variation for me.

yes. when she is on.

When i start to follow her, I think i liked her rhythm (if any) matched with her grunt.

No... I am a fan only because of her grunt and her mom

Yes, love her.

She moves well, steady game, killer forehand, improved serve, decent at net. When she´s on she´s amazing to watch.

I just wish she had more guts, that´s the only thing she´s really missing. The killer instinct, she doesnt go for it when she needs to. That´s exactly why she hasn´t won a slam yet.

Not sure.
She often seems like a robotic crosscourt machine.

i predict a us open victory this year...... with the talent she has she has to win ONE major in her career..... and she believes she can..... and even though she thinks she can win the french..... new york is her best chance

Not at all. She's boring and mechanical. I hate her laboured shot production.

:bounce: :bounce: Lena!!! :bounce: :bounce:

Lena is like the little girl with the curl in the nursery rhyme. When she is good she is very, very good, but when she is bad...but there is NOTHING in tennis I enjoy as much as her uncorking her Full-Body Rotation Screaming Forehand of Death.

It's enough to make me forgive for trimm... wait, I almost got carried away there.

No, it is the main reason i'm not a fan of her, she does seem like a really nice graceful girl though :)

Retreats too much. Her serve is practically non-existent. However, that's not the problem. Her issues are that her net play was never developed and when she hits penetrating backhands or forehands, moving her opponent off the court to retrieve, instead of coming forward to cut off the angles on the return for a nice volley, she retreats back to the baseline to resume play, killing her offensive game. She doesn't need a serve to win premiers and major, for no one nails 50 aces in a match, but the baseline game should be modified to include an approach to the net and volleying, which she more often then not she doesn't do.

What, athleticism and speed coupled with very clean ground strokes that she seems hell-bent on hitting cross-court? Yeah, it works for me. I'd rather she have a gimpy backhand than gimpy serve, or a weird hitch in her strokes rather than...a gimpy serve...or anything slightly less predictable. But the athleticism and purity of her strokes are good enough.

She's never been one of my favorites, but she's never been one of my less-favorites.

Back in '04/05, she was one of THE most audacious and electrifying hitters in the game.

I don't understand why Dementieva fully closed off her flat-hitting, innate instincts on her groundstrokes. Her footwork is still generally superb, with intricate, measured steps, but she looks far less 'athletic'. In fact her game looks far less dynamic as a result.

She's rarely ever played in recent years in an ilk IMO, where's she's truly overpowering someone. If you check out the match against Clijsters in Filderstadt '05, it's pretty obvious to me how much her game has relied on added spin, safety and perhaps less courage as a result to go for her shots.

Yes, I like it.

I kinda agree that her game was more exciting a couple of years ago (in the Dementieva-Myskina era), but on the other hand she has improved her serve alot.

The groundstrokes , forehand , athleticism and serve return are too sexy

How you can not love a top-5 player in those 4 depths ? .
Impossible for me at least

I dont like the style. I like the way Mauresmo played in 2006. BUT I love watching her play (her style) when she is agressive. She can be so good when she attacks. However she tends to stay way back behind the baseline and hit average shots with little pace and spin and that is boring

Well, lets face it none of the top players have quite the flair and grace they once did, its all a tad mechanical and one dimensional these days, basically its mainly big powerful girls belting the shit out of the ball.

However, when she gets it right, she has a athletic grace that no other can match, maybe Venus, she moves so fluidly and has speed no girl her size should have, side to side and fore and aft. She can produce effortless power and hits winners from parts of the court no player has a right to do.

There is a certain beauty in watching her game when its on, in every move she makes, right up to the squeals, the victory dance, the lot.

In this modern game of mostly pushers and defenders and players waiting for errors, it is nice to see, therefore I DO like her style.

Of course, quite often shes a total train wreck and nothing is worse to see, bit like watching a ferrari spluttering along on 2 cylinders with black smoke belching from it, you know she can do so much better....

Not necessarily. I think some people on here are fans of players without liking their style.

But anyway I myself like her style. Her game is machine-like, but I quite like that about it.

You tell me. ;)

The fact that her game is not the most exciting to watch doesnt change anything about me wanting her to win a GS, be No.1 and be happy. She was,is and will be my absolute favourite player all time. You can not dislike her-there´s something about Dementieva...

(Acting like she is my fave...here at wtaworld.com...would there be ANY point in doing so? )

Exactly. There are some people who can only see beauty in a say, a painting or a symphony or some other work of art. But if you can see the beauty in a Ferrari boxer engine, or a precision machine press (and some of us can) then you can see the beauty of Dementieva's game.

Mommy Vera gets all the attention, but Daddy D. was an engineer, and maybe that's how his influence shows up in his adorable daughter.

I really like her and her game but I had to put not sure, sometimes her game seems a bit robotic to me, I prefer more fluid, graceful strikers.
