If she abandons 'Henin 2.0' and returns to her old style of play, she at least makes the RG final. But I don't think she'll do that. Everything she's said points to a commitment to this new style of play through Wimbledon.

Figure Warsaw (maybe), Rome, Madrid, hitting all out on almost every point on red clay .... she loses in the QFs. If she WANTED to be the best red clay player in the world by Roland Garros, she could be, easily. But playing this style says that's not what she's after.

Normally I'd say she was certain to win it but really it's more a question of 'who's going to step up and take it off her?' since she's not playing at her best.

:spit:

Since when her loss at IW means something on clay?

I mean, her results on hardcourt don't even affect her clay season, just look at her 2005 season, she was not that impressive except on clay. Why ? Because she knows how to play on clay, she is by far the best there and almost nobody can touch her on clay...

Serena ? Her serve is not as powerful on clay as it can be on HC.
Jankovic ? She is terrible.
Ivanovic ? :spit:
Sharapova ? Has lost her serve and her brain.
Kuznetsova ? Has lost her brain but I think she will be Justine's main rival for sure.
Wozniacki ? Perhaps... dunno really

Who else ? :tape: Dulko? :haha: :spit: :help:

I hope for God's sake Justine will be back to her old tactics on clay, because she is changing her game to perform well at Wimbledon but because she is not the most dominant player on grass and hardcourts. She would be very dumb if she keeps playing way too aggressively on clay because she never played like it but still won 4 FO.

PLP

Semifinal at least.
She has a good chance at the tile, she just needs to get some more matches in and her confidence up.

People actually think Justine will play the same way across all surfaces? Yes, because like other players that is really how she won all her slams.

Uh, no. She is top favorite for the event regardless of anything that transpires before Roland Garros.

Debby's point is that Serena's main weapon isn't as potent on the clay. That's not to say she can't win, it just means she won't get as many free points.

I'm not saying all she has are power serves but when Serena is in a jam it's typically that serve that gets her out of them. All though she does dish out some nasty kick serves on 2nd serves sometimes but it hasn't seemed to work that well for her on the clay lately.

Also, the player Justine was in 02 is not the same one she became by the end of 03, that's painfully obvious.

I am concerned that the pressure of everyone expecting her to win will be too much. I feel that perhaps that is the reason for her early exit at IW. She couldn't be like, "Oh, I'll just see how it goes," anymore. After making the final of the AO and with Serena not being at IW, people really looked at her as the favorite, I think, and that didn't go very well.

This is Justine we're talking about not Kim Clijsters.

Justine can deal with pressure effectively, it's just that at Indian Wells Dulko played better. Nothing to do with pressure.

As if we don't know that, she is great on clay but atm, she is not really confident, you shouldn't be so confident, anything can happen even at RG.

Why do you think I think Justine is gonna win RG ? I mean, as a Rafa fan, I know very well anything can happen at RG (and I know you were happy as hell this day oh well). But you got what I meant, I don't understand why everybody was like before Justine's loss " OMG !!11 just give her the RG trophy already" and after her loss "Oh my, she will lose in 4r that's for sure" :weirdo:
A loss means nothing, especially when we are talking about great champions.

In my opinion, Justine isnt playing that well at all, So I would almost guarantee she will be knocked out before the 4th round.

See above.

Bad logic ... Venus is almost never playing well going into Wimbledon. When some players get on their fave surface, their game just clicks!!!

This. That's why I thought Serena was going to win the AO, never understood that odd year habit, IMO it means nothing, only that Serena struggled to be regular during several years in a row in a particular Slam. And I believe Venus will win Wimbledon even if I hope someone other will. I wonder who can be that someone. :o

IKR. :worship: People got way too excited about Justine's level.

.... Fortunately, thanks to Serena-lover, I shut up. Wanted to say something but I won't.

:rolls: Sorry. :sobbing:

Oops, I forgot to quote Butterfrena. Arnian understood my point of view very well : I am not writing Serena off, never to do it with Serena. But she will have real troubles to beat Justine on clay, much more than on grass and hardcourts because she has lesser free points since Justine often wins the rallyes on clay.

If we have a match-up Serena Henin on clay, Henin will be likely to win, she only lost to her on that surface to like 4 wins. Not bad at all. Justine will be the huge favourite at RG, I don't see where is the controversial. If Serena plays at her best on grass, she will be very hard to beat, even for Henin.

Honestly, i don't see this pressure everyone is talking about. This pressure is coming from people on this board.. do you think Henin stays up at night wondering if she'll win RG or Wimbledon?

The woman loves to compete and loves to play the game. If she were in it just for titles, she wouldnt have retired in 2008.

And  at all the people predicting an early round loss. If she can make the final of AO in her SECOND TOURNAMENT IN 2 YEARS... how do you think she'll do on a surface she is head and shoulders above everyone on. Especially she'll have time to play into form.

Also, people are going crazy over ONE LOSS. How many players take more than a year off and then come back to dominate right away? Her results so far are F, F, 2R. Very impressive

No way she loses before the quarters. Kuzzy is awful against her, she owns Jelena, Ana is shite, and dinara is injured/can't get it together in a slam final. These are the top clay courters and she owns them. It's hilarious to think anything but quarterfinals and beyond.

She cant have a B day once she gets to the 4th round.
Stosur, Serena and Jelena could all be finalists if in the bottom half. Then the real final.
Even rounds 2 and 3 are tougher than most seeds get that early.

Justine was not really at her 2007 level when she beat Stosur and it was not even in a Slam.
It can be enough for her to beat Serena because she doesn't move well at all.
And Jankovic usually chokes against Justine, much more in Slams, so Justine shouldn't be worried.

I don't know if anyone else has spotted this but every second year Tsetana Pironkova makes the second round. For example 2006 - 2nd round, 2007 - 1st round, 2008 - 2nd round, 2009 - 1st round. If Pironkova is anything about tradition.. and we all know that those Bulgarian's are then she should conquer Henin! After all, isn't this year's Roland Garros all about traditition and repitition of numbers (i.e Sharapova).

TL;DR. Henin will lose first round due to tradition.

Henin just won 18th straight set win in the row (and 38th consecutive set) at French Open, which is good sign.
Player which won most games (8) during this amazing strike is Kuznetsova in 2006 final (6-4 6-4).
Today against unseeded Pironkova after about 75 minutes result was 6-4 2-3, which is REALLY bad sign for Henin's RG standards where she never calculate or been mercy with her opponents.

But still, she is bold favorite to win this again.

Means nothing. She almost lost the first set against Paszek at RG 2007 and still won RG in straights.

Joke was an intentional remark to make fun off the Sharapova saga.

I still have no idea after 3 rounds.
I think she can win it all, or lose any round.
That Sharapova match was like a yo-yo
Up, down, up down. She still has the greatness, can she bring it out when she needs it, 4 more tough rounds?

Justine MUST win RG.

If not, the pressure on her going into Wimby, the self-proclaimed reason why she returned will be ENORMOUS.

I think she's in for a surprise, however, and is looking at a fourth round exit from the French. :bounce:
