Since this is not really a tournament and doesn't really count,I dared to open this thread. At this point it just doesn't make much difference who opens it and she already got the worst possible luck with draw facing Venus Williams in SF.

Here is website to exhibition where you'll find all info about it:

and you can also follow it on twitter:

I think that Ana Ivanovic will replace Serena. Serena is injured.

Sveta has to start strong. If she can get the lead on Venus, she can win the whole thing

This is a nice event to play.
There is going to be a lot of nonsense before the matches. Announcing celebrities in the crowd, Hall of Fame players coming out on court, BJK.

Sveta has to ignore all this pre match nonsense, and start fast. She can win this.

Watch Kim & Sveta LIVE on Sunday!

Watch Kim & Svetlana challenge each other on the courts…the Wii court!

WTA stars and Grand Slam Champions Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova will be competing for more than just the coveted Billie Jean King Cup at the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden in New York.

On February 28th, the reigning US Open and French Open champions will officially debut Fila’s Spring 2010 Center Court Collection as they play a “match before the match.” The Showdown Qualifiers will test their skills while wearing Fila’s latest collection when they play Racquet Sports, on Nintendo Wii™ head to head on the 185” Gardenvision screen at Madison Square Garden. The “match before the match” will be emceed by Scott Lasky of MSG Network.

The “match” and subsequent athlete question and answer session will be broadcast live on www.fila.com or http://www.ustream.tv/filatv at 2:10pm on Sunday, February 28th. Kim and Svetlana will be asked about the BNP Paribas Showdown, trading in their tennis racquets for Wii remotes and Fila’s latest performance tennis collection.

On-line viewers will be able to send in their questions for Kim & Sveta to answer LIVE via UStream or http://twitter.com/filausa

Center Court Collection makes its advance debut in New York before the rest of the brand’s sponsored athletes wear the collection in Indian Wells at the BNP Paribas Open. The Center Court Collection was inspired by Fila’s rich history in tennis but incorporates a bright and youthful color story of hot coral, viridian green and ebony. Signature pieces in the collection include a halter tank, gathered wrap skirt and color blocked sleeveless dress. The Center Court Collection ranges in price from $45 - $68 and will be available at tennis specialty retailers nationwide and on www.fila.com.

Racquet Sports, is a multisport game for the entire family that includes tennis, ping pong, badminton, squash and beach tennis for Wii™. Racquet Sports offers unprecedented realism, and pin-point gameplay mechanics bringing every serve, swing and backhand to life while replicating the experience in the comfort of the living room.

Clijsters and Kuznetsova are Qualifiers for the BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup which will be held for the second year at Madison Square Garden. The pairings for the semifinal matches were determined by using the 2009 year-end rankings and having the highest ranked player take on the lowest ranked, then assigning the two remaining players to play each other. Serena finished as World No. 1 followed by Kuzetsova at No. 3, Venus was No. 6 and Clijsters finished her comeback year at No. 18.

Venus lost the 1st set tonight. I want her to win this tournament and be tired.
But she is playing like she wants to go back to the US tomorrow

Bероника
Feb 26th, 2010, 07:05 AM
don't worry,Venus is still in Mexico and getting tired with long match

I was thinking maybe Sveta should follow Venus or Elena's exemple and play some times these minor tournaments. When you've won only 5 matchs this season and are very far from making the cut on the Race for YEC,some things clearly need to be changed. These tournaments allow to play and win easier matchs, and give points too.

Ok,back to this NYC exho, even Venus being tired I give her the edge over Sveta because the matchs will be played on indoor, right? :help:

It could go quick, they only play one set,if Ivanovic plays like she's recently been playing,I would say 15 minutes...Also there's no advantage I think,so games will also go faster than usual.

Mar 1st, 2010, 07:32 PM

This was posted on Venus forum:

Watch the BNP Paribas Tennis Showdown Live from Madison Square Garden on ESPN2 and Online at ESPN360

Watch Svetlana Kuznetsova, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters and Ana Ivanovic live on Monday night at the 2010 BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden.

MSG Plus and ESPN2 will televise the 2010 BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean Cup on Monday, March 1, live with MSG Plus showing the semifinals and ESPN2 presenting the finals.

The one-day, single-elimination tournament will include four of the world’s top female tennis players – Svetlana Kuznetsova, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters and Ana Ivanovic – at Madison Square Garden.

Starting at 7 p.m. ET, MSG Plus will televise two semifinal matches with World No. 17 Clijsters facing No. 23 Ivanovic and No. 4 Kuznetsova taking on No. 5 Williams.

At 9 p.m. ESPN2 will air the final match. All three matches will also be available on broadband ESPN360.com.

Both MSG Plus and ESPN2 will showcase leading on-air commentators during the event. One of the most respected broadcasters in sports, Ted Robinson, will call play-by play for the semifinals while former World No. 1 player and three-time Grand Slam winner, Lindsay Davenport, will serve as analyst.

MSG’s Scott Lasky will handle reporter duties for the semifinal matches. ESPN2’s coverage of the final will feature two prominent tennis commentators: Chris Fowler, host of the network’s coverage of all four Grand Slam events, alongside seven-time WTA Tour winner Mary Joe Fernandez.

The BNP Paribas Showdown features a unique set of rules. The semifinal matches will consist of only one set while the final match will be best of three. There will be no ad scoring in either round. The four participants will compete for a $1.2 million prize pool.

The “BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup” is the featured element of the national “Tennis Night in America” promotion. Through “Tennis Night in America”, the USTA will continue its efforts to grow youth participation in the sport of tennis. “Tennis Night in America” is among the sports largest ever grass roots initiatives.

The USTA has made this event a major component for its Youth Registration Night, where youth from all over the country can begin signing up for spring and summer league play beginning on Friday, February 26th through March 1st

well I think she did pretty well we all know she is a slow starter and not that best indoors. I thought it would be more like 6-2.

Bероника
Mar 2nd, 2010, 07:56 PM
I also thought it would be easier for Venus, but it's her serve that worries me (she ended on a double fault),it's not there since the beginning of this season and fails when she's under pressure, while last year it was a good weapon she could count on.

I hope we can find a video of the match to see where she's at.

thanks both. That sounds encouraging she was playing good vs Venus.Let's not forget Venus is the most in form player at the moment, maybe in a real match Sveta could have done more. She has a tendency to start slow lately and and has difficulties finding her rhythm of play. It's difficult to win a one set match like this.Let's see what she does at IW.
