View Full Version : Nobody can keep their damn momentum

It's really one of the main problem affecting the WTA nowadays. Barely anybody can keep momentum going from tournament to tournament. Blame it on mental strength, injuries, the landscape of the tour tournaments -- whatever. Bottom line is that it's pathetic. We saw a microcosm of this at the Aussie (Serena winning, Kim and Maria failing to capitalize on success at the end of last year and crashing early). And it's just been solidified so far in Dubai.

Zheng, Kirilenko, Petrova, Stosur and Wickmayer all had great runs at the first major of the year, and all of them have crashed and burned since. I know it's early in the season, but it's still baffling to me. I actually despise both Henin and Sharapova (the latter a little more), but I'm now beginning to appreciate their respective resurgences. It's refreshing to have two players back who can match Serena in the mental department. I'm looking at the layout of the Top 10 now and shaking my head...

Having said all this, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Venus fell tomorrow to Lisicki. I hope she doesn't, I hope she can defend. But we'll see.
