I sure hope she's still injured otherwise I really have no words for this.
I guess it won't be long till the bitter Sharapova fans come in and call AO a fluke.

:o:o:o injury?

It's possible:scratch:
She pulled out of Pattaya last week so she was probably still injured. And coupled with the fact that Regina's rank doesn't do her justice AT ALL. If she played more, there is no doubt she'd be in the top 50 at least. Hopefully she'll take advantage of this little luck and go deeper in the draw.

Kulikova wants her Dubai dream to continue

Al Habtoor winner fancies her chances of staying here this week

I don't know what it is, but this place has been good for me, Russian Regina Kulikova said after beating compatriot Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-0.
Dubai: Regina Kulikova is hoping her Dubai dream is alive for at least a major part of this week at the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship.
Kulikova received one of the wild card entries following her win at the $75,000 Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge in the second half of December last year. Next she made her way through the qualifiers following wins against Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa and fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva.
Last month, Kulikova entered history books after playing the second-longest women’s singles match in Open Era when she fell in the first round of the Australian Open 7-6 (5), 6-7 (10), 6-3 to Zahlavova Strycova in four hours and 19 minutes.
And yesterday in the first round of the main draw the lanky Russian did one better by dumping the flashy fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-0, making her believe that Dubai has been doing something good to her game. “I don’t know what it is, but this place has been good for me,” Kulikova told Gulf News.
“It really did not cross my mind that I was playing a much better opponent especially after her good run at the Australian Open (where she reached the quartefinals). I was just concentrating on my shots and staying aggressive out there,” she added.
Playing with a heavily strapped left thigh, Kirilenko never seemed to be in the match as Kulikova broke her in the seventh and ninth to take the set 6-3. In the second it was one-way traffic as Kirilenko showed signs of struggling with her left adductor strain, while Kulikova kept her opponent moving around to take set and match 6-0.
This was the first ever meeting between the two players. And her second round opponent may also be another first-time meeting against Nadia Petrova, provided she can wade past her wild card opponent, Stefanie Voegele. “I think I really played well and aggressive today. I don’t know why, but I get a nice feeling playing here. And for sure, I want this to continue, at least for a major part of this week,” Kulikova stated.
“That will be an interesting one too as I have never played Nadia before,” Kulikova said.
“It was my first time and my first win against such a high ranked player. I think things are working well for me in Dubai,” she beamed.
