from the tournament:

"Following a second medical check-up conducted this morning, Anna Kournikova withdrew from Kremlin Cup singles, representatives of Sanex WTA Tour announced at the Kremlin Cup press-center.
Let us remind that on the eve, Kournikova, who was playing doubles with the American Meghann Shaugnessy, was forced to pull-out of the match against the pair Dokic-Petrova because of a left ankle sprain. "

Well that's the season for anna now according to this..

WTA officials said x-rays taken on Thursday morning revealed that Kournikova suffered a partial tear of the anterior ligament in her left ankle in a doubles match on Wednesday.

They said the 21-year-old will probably miss the rest of the year.

thats fairly serious with it being so close to end of season

looks more than likely she will be OUT for rest of season, she would be pretty foolish by trying to play.

it never gets any easier for Anna, there's always a new injury just around the corner :(

This tournament sucks now. It absolutely sucks. The TV ratings will be down, attendance will be down, it just sucks!   First Venus decides to get blown up by Maggie Maleeva, then Anna decides to tear her ankle. WHAT'S NEXT? LINDSAY GETTING DOUBLE BAGELED BY Elena Somethingova?

So by that logic, TV ratings and attendace must be awful in all USA tournaments when the American girls do well there. My sincerest sympathies for you.

But poor Anna :( As if all media trashing was not enough, now a serious injury.

Damn it! Every fucking time she is getting back up, something has to put her back down. It is so fucking depressing, I don't know what to do:sad:... Will she be back for the Aussie Open? She won't be seeded by the way... This is the worst tennis season of all time!

You know, it is starting to look bad for that trainer who examined Anna's ankle & sent her back to the court to resume play. That was a mistake that a good trainer should not have made. Who knows if she caused further damage in that last game before she retired?

I was thinking the same thing Janie... I wonder if they are either just saying the rest of the year cuz they still don't know... or if after being examined and went back and won the next game that the the real damaged took place. Any rate, I hope she is ok for LA doubles.

No, this time, it's a ligament that is fucked up and last year was the stress fracture...

Did you notice that it's always on the same frecking foot...the left one :fiery:

Oh, poor Anna :(

This doesn't look good for the Australian Open...Anna never performs well when she's coming off of an injury. Please get well, and heal completely Anna! You'll be missed!!!!
