Game Set Match!!!!!! 63 61 Pironkova
Anett once again had opportunities at 15-30, but her inexperience held her back
She really could have gotten close in this match. Many opportunities. Anyway, lets hope she does better in her next match
It goes to show though, that if kaia played, and anett played kostova, she might have won a set given that her match was a lot closer today then it seemed

You know, I've been always thinking that big countries' juniors have it maybe a bit easier, because they will be offered WCs to various events, so they can gain some valuable experience against much higher ranked players. But Fed Cup has now actually worked out even better for Anett. She got a chance to play 3 matches, at a regular tournament it would have been just the first loss, and then bye bye.

10k Tallinn 2 in February
25k Bath, GBR in March
25k Tunis, TUN in April
25k Chiasso, SUI in April

In juniors she's planning to play just GS, and one tournament in Italy (I assume it's the Italian Open), and maybe some more in the end of the year in USA.

She will use her junior exempts in these three tournaments. Hopes to have a good enough ranking after, so she can get into 25k-s directly.

Goal is to reach top 300 this year.

chingching
Feb 16th, 2012, 05:53 AM
If she wins Tallinn 2 she shouldnt need the wildcards for Chiasso and hopefully not morocco. She should be top 300 by the end of the year if she continues the form she had at fed cup. She would almost be top 200. To be ranked 300, she needs to have 173 points. If she plays 12 tournaments, thats an average of 14 points a tournament. Should she win at least 2 tournaments this year and hopefully 2 25ks, she should makes this comfortably :)
She has to improve her doubles ranking though. I know she needs to go to school and everything but she should have just played dubs here with indy as a bit of fun, creating a good partnership and earning some money and ranking points. She has the potential to be a good dubs player but being down at 900 is useless. They surely would have given her and indy a wildcard over mahoni and ilves!!!

Meelis
Feb 16th, 2012, 08:24 AM
If she wins Tallinn 2 she shouldnt need the wildcards for Chiasso and hopefully not morocco.

Even, if she wins next week, she would be barely inside top 600. Last year, Chiasso was one of the strongest 25k tournaments, with a MD cut of #206. No reason to think it would be much lower this year.

And the junior exempt is not exactly the same as wildcard.

Really!!!! I just assumed it would be weak as many of the swiss tournaments in the past havent been strong and i watched a video of the tournametn and there was noone i had seen before. Bath will be strong, all of the british ones are. This weeks rabat is decently strong so anett would be 2 seed in qualies. Tunisia will e weaker though. I dont see her losing this tournament. I understand why she played it but she really shouldnt have played this tournament. If she wins this tournament she will have lost 2 professional matches in estonia and 1 at RAM. She will be undefeated at RAM indoor

I went to watch it today. There was quite a lot of people imo (a lot means about 30:lol:), and it was clear they weren't there randomly, because as soon as the match was over pretty much everyone left.

It was a long match, going on about 2.5 hours or so. At first I thought this match doesn't last very long. Golubic's serve wasn't as powerful, so maybe Anett tried to do too much returning it, resulting in quite a few errors. 2nd set was very erratic from Anett altogether, at some point it felt she was bashing in frustration, making wild errors. And she was actually down 0*-5, I was pretty sure she'd get bagelled because she had lost her last service game before that to love. 3rd set began with breaking Golubic's serve, and she didn't give the lead away anymore.

As they played, Katarzyna Piter vs Anna Zaja also started. As little as I watched them, Zaja left me with a better impression, but maybe she got too erratic in the 2nd and 3rd set, idk. Also Vinogradova wasn't very amused after her loss.

chingching
Feb 27th, 2012, 11:40 AM
The british ones are normally quite tough but hopefully most are in America. She should be the equivalent of seeded for qualifying. I think that she will definately win rabat if she plays well (she says she played badly in Tallinn which makes sense given her results but in the hihlights she was playing well) and Bath and quarters or semi showing could be nice. Chiasso will be a challenge but if she plays like in Fed Cup, she is as good as a top 100 player. I hope she plays Bastad as it is on clay, it is a weak field and she should have learnt from Timea Babos that if you have confidence, you can go a long way

So the list is out, seems quite tough. Anett would even be nowhere near the qualifying cut, more like alternative no 100. The last main draw spot is 214 (compared to 288 in Moscow for example) and for qualifying 286 (vs 403). Of course this list is not final, but looking at the priorities, there will probably be a number of withdrawals from Moscow, but likely not so many from Bath.

Anyway, let's hope Anett won't have the worst draw and can get at least some wins :)

chingching
Mar 1st, 2012, 07:33 PM

But you have to remember that some fo the good players will drop out because their are other good players. E.g. Nastassya Burnett. A 50k winner and a girl who beat Hradecka isnt going to play 25s if theres a risk shell lose 1st round

If you look at Itf La Marsa, this field will be similar to tunis's one. In terms of preferences, the last main draw acceptance Federica di Sarra of Italy ranked 451. If Tunis is like this, then Anett has a good cance to go deep in the draw. I still think she should've played Fes. She could have made a quarter final :)

In Moscow 25k the main draw cut seems to be 605  Why oh why didn't Anett sign up there instead of Bath. Maybe because of the surface? Anyway, kind of ridiculous that the points given for both of these tournaments are exactly the same.

I know. I am personally against tournament whoring but for Juniors I think its acceptable. When you can only play 12 tourneys a year, you cant risk getting a bad draw or not playing well. If Anett wants competitive match play, then do it at higehr level challengers or wta, not chaallengers. Whats the point ion taking a risk in losing whn even if you win you dont get huge amount of ranking points?? Even La MArsa would have been better

I seriously doubt she's gonna try WTA this year. Looks like she wants to take it very slowly. Unless maybe she does really really well in those challengers, but even then I think no. After Tallinn she was talking about "having to return to 10k if she does not succeed in 25k-s".

Returning to 10ks should be a last resort as she can basically win everyone she plays. Its a good idea to take it slow, she is only 16!!!
But I do think if she was the ambitious type that a WTA international Quarterfinal or a high level challenger semi would be doable and a great result. If only Estonia had a challenger :(

Can anyone think of a calender after these tournaments???
For example, lets say she makes semis bath, wins tunis and quarters chiasso. Her rankin will be top 400. Do you think she will play some more 25s?? If so, which ones. Or will she consider 50s??

just found Lauren Davis, who won 2010 Orange Bowl, is now a top 200 player after first round win at IW yesterday, so if Anett wants to make that push and has the chance to do so, why not?

agreed
and i am not criticising lauren, she is a great persona and has a really good game but the god have blessed anett with a bigger physique so from a younger age hopefully she can match it with the big ones. And lauren has an easy second round which is great to see :)

1 or 2 players are withdrawing everyday
The field is gradually weakening
Anett now has a good chance to go far, or even win if she plays as well as fed cup

chingching
Mar 16th, 2012, 01:10 AM
The tournament has now weakened considerably. There will be some unranked players in qualifying and the last direct acceptance is below 300. Anett has a great chance now. A semi or final is do able if she can replicate fed cup form. Is it just me or does anett not play as well at home (this years tallinn 10k, fed cup??)

Anett's draw in Bath

Elitsa KOSTOVA (BUL) [1]

Anett KONTAVEIT (EST) (JE)
Alize LIM (FRA)

Her first match is probably on Wednesday.

A very good draw for anett if she can get past elitsa. If she can get past the second round (i dont see her losing first round if she can gain any type of good form), the semi finals is very much possible

If anett can get past elitsa (who actually also isnt in good form, lost first round KL to rogowska 60 64!!) then i dont see why she cant make the semis or even win the whole thing. In quarters she has Stanciute who is really bad then she has either beck or glushko in semis. I dont see her losing a match if she beats kostova, cause she will need to play quality tennis to get past kostova, meaning she can beat the others. muusa was right about her match being on wednseday.

I was just looking at the juniors ranking. She'll lose the RU 100 points on Monday, and drops out of top 10.

I find it funny how many good tournaments are in America (North and South) given the amount of good players from the region. She seems to intentionally pick the events with strong fields  She played Bath, where she could have played La Marsa (well yes, her Bath draw turned out to be very good in the end). She plays Tunis in the week where it is one of the two 25k-s in the world (and close to Europe, the other one is in South-America), why not Uzbekistan or sth a week before? Then she plays Chiasso which will probably be as packed also.

I know that in the end it doesn't matter as she should be able to beat those top 200 players anyway if she wants to be a top 100-200 player, but currently she just needs some more points quickly to even get to those future 25k events directly when the JE-s are used up.

For example Donna Vekic played some 25k-s in Nigeria last year and one in India this year, got a lot of points using the advantage of a bit weaker fields and now she is almost top 300.

Beat Mladenovic 6-1 6-7(6) 6-3 :yeah:

One of her best wins, if not the best. Should have converted one of three match-points in the second set, but oh well ;)

Did lose 2 points on serve in set one and 1 point in third

Anett beat Mladenovic 61 67 63!!!!
It was worrying after the second as she had at least 2 serving at 5-4 and 1 in the tiebreak, but she dominated the second (lost 1 point on serve!!!!!!)
Has a great shot at maindraw. I wanted her to play here but I thought she wouldnt because she didnt release it in her schedule

If the match is on centre court before a maindraw, there might be a live stream. Apparently Annika is a counter puncher who gets everything back so either Nett will lose like against marcinkevica or she can hit throug her. I am so excited for a possible maindraw!!!! If only she could have replaced putintsrva an faced barbat first round :haha:

Another good win for Anett, really happy for her! But the next opponent is quite tough, Annika Beck has played in three 25k finals this year already and the few losses have been to top 200 players only.
Anyway, now Anett's ranking goes up to 485 or so and by the end of April she has a realistic chance to aim for top 400 if she gets at least some wins in Tunis and Chiasso.

So Anett lost after her serve totally disappeared. Well, I actually did not believe she'd win anyway, but after that first set my hopes went up of course. Too bad about the bagel though, that is now her second during a short period of time :(

Next up Tunis and onto clay. Interesting to see what she can produce there.

Anett lost 46 63 60. She was leading 64 33 Game point when everything fell apart (she got nroken the last 7 service games of the match :tape:)

First, Dan Doe, I did like Sibiu. It was a beautiful eritage town, my second favourite place in Romania behind Sinaia, a ski resort near Brasov. It was much nicer than Arad and timisiora was nice but not as nice. Second, I think that Anett has to think of a better schedule after her loss to Annika today. I think its great that she is trying the big stae as she is more than capable but I think she has to cut out what shes doing with playingg ridiculously hard 25ks. She can get the seame experience playing easier WTAs or 50-100ks. I mean if she makes QF at tunis and chiasso that would be an achievement, and she would only gain 28 ranking points and about 1000 in cash. if she played for example Bastad and Baku, she could make the maindraw and maybe win a round, putting her ranking points at around 50 and prize money at around 3000. I think its good she want to play hard opponents, it does nothing but good, but if you are only allowed 12 a year, you should try and make the most out of them you can.

A schedule for example could be:
Australia G1
Australian Open
Fed Cup
10K Tallinn
25K Bath
WTA Copenhagen
25K Tunis
25K Chiasso
Trofeo Bonfiglio
French Open
25K Kristinehamm
25K Ystad
Wimbledon
WTA Bastad
WTA Baku

Thats a start and if she played those tournaments she could easily be top 250 by the end of the year. n Baku, a WTA 2nd round or QF is almost on the cards given last years draw and you cant really expect this years to be any better

Just a comment her on Diana Marcinkevica, how badly must anett have played to have lost so badly!!!! Diana just lost 2nd round of a 10k in coratia to someone just inside the top 800 in straight sets. She also lost to belinda bencic, a swiss junior this year in straight sets and she lost to clothile de bernardi in amiens 60 64 who anett beat 1 and 3 in stockholm. That loss simply puzzles me.

Some comments from her coach Märten Tamla. Says that Anett was a bit tired from the previous matches (and that caused the problems on serve) and that game point she had in the second set on 3-3 was about 3-4cm out. Says that the tournament overall was a positive experience of course.

The match against Mladenovic had been tough. Anett was serving very well, and had better movement, so when she was able to keep the ball in play, the points went her way.

Depends on whether she will get any wildcards, but I guess why not. Bastad in July could be an option..? At first I did not believe she'd play any this year, but after this successful debut I'd rather think she will try if given a chance.

But does anyone know how many wildcards could she theoretically get/use during one year? Was it limited to 2-3 or sth like that?

Geographically I guess Copenhagen in Denmark and Bastad in Sweden are the closest WTA events to Estonia. Maybe Swedes will give her a WC:shrug:

Her draw here could have been much tougher I think, had she landed in the Tsurenko/Chakvetadze section, or even against Czink.

According to 2012 WTA rulebook, she is allowed to accept 4 wildards into ITF or WTA events (JE not included)
Theoretically, she could play 3 more WTAs and play Baku with qualifyin as she would make maindraw

Great, 4 is quite a lot, considering she can play 12 altogether. Even if not WTA, then maybe some wildcards to bigger ITFs.

Well, there is some tough competition. Khromacheva, Putintseva, Bouchard, Barty and Jabeur are all great claycourt players. Townsand and Min are not, but...well, they shouldn't be underestimated. No other player than those should be a threat for Anett. So let's see who's playing RG and who's not.

I doubt Jabeur and Min are playing, maybe Barty also not as she even didn't play junior AO on her home ground (still a major puzzle for me why). As for the rest, they probably do play, but yea, we have to wait.. Of them Anett has never beaten Khromacheva and Townsend.

Anetts chiasso field released tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully weaker than last years
I think that if she can get 60 points approximately (winner in tunis and quarters in chiasso or semis in chiasso finals in tunis) that would be a good result. I have thought of a potentially good schedule (i hope she reads and chooses this one ;):
1. 25K Tunis
2. 25K Chiasso
3. Week Off
4. G1 Italy
5. GA Italy
6. Week Off
7. French Open
8. Week Off
9. 25K Kristinehamm
10. Week Off/G1 Roehampton
11. Wimbledon
12. Week Off
13. WTA Bastad
14. WTA Baku

I know its quite packed but I belive that it gets the most out of the tournaments

My reasoning:
1 + 2: I wouldnt have put these but shes already committed
3 + 4 + 5: She can head to Italy and play some matches to get used to teh flow of juniors again and get her ranking up
6 + 7: She could play Astrid Bowl in week 6 but 6 tournaments in 7 weeks is hard work especially if your reaching the last few days of every one. Plus, the ranking points for this tournament dont count for French Open Seedings. French Open is a good choice and if she can get around 1000 Points alltogether from these junior events (including doubles) she might get more junior exempts for next year, if she needs them
8 + 9: It would be nice to play an easier 25K which it wwill be because all the players in the top 220 will be a wimbly qualies and she should get into maindraw
10: I think she should have a week off and practice for wimbledon instead of going from clay to grass in potentially a day, especially when she hasnt had much experience on grass. It has worked for champions like sharapova and willimas in the past
11: Wimbledon juniors may be her last slam
12: Week off for training
13 + 14: Weaker Wtas which she can play to get some more experience. A WC may be necessary for Bastad but I highly doubt it for Baku. She has a good chance of making some Maindraws and except for the quick change of surface, these tournaments would be perfect. To add to the normal weakness of these tournaments, they also collide with the US hardcourt swing this year due to olympics, meaning they will be even weaker

I think the date and time on the ITF page is the deadline for the players to apply. I can only guess that after that the organizers will upload the list, but no one can tell when they get to it. Usually it is published in the evening of the deadline day.

Lets hope so
If the LDA isnt int the top 120, the field will be worse than last years :)

Chiasso list is out

Everyone is with priority 1, so it should´t get much weaker. MD cut will probably similar to last year.

WOW!!!! SO many priority 1s. When I said if its 120 it would be ok, I hoped that the LDA would go down about 80 spots. But theyre al priority 1s!!!!! The real question is why do these players want to play packed 25ks, where if you win you get nothing but a bit of confidence and you have a legitimate chance to lose first round. Do they give an appearance fee to everyone or give them hospitality in a 5 star hotel???

Silly, silly anett!!! SHe should have played moscow again, although I understand that this tournament is close to Italy. Anyway, with her great copenhagen form, maybe she can do well here.
