Okay, I'm officially the the thread-whore of the new Melanie sub-forum :rolls:
With Mel's win over Cirstea in the first round of Paris Indoors, she'll be back in the top 50 :D
It is not definite that she will be back in the top 50, but as of now she is :)
Mel :yeah:

After the win against Schnyder, Mel will be #44 :D
Of course, this will change most likely, as it all depends on how everyone else does ;)

EDIT-Actually #46, because Safarova and Petkovic won today :p

Yeah. She actually has a small window of time (from RG up to Wimbledon) where she can build up some points. She's playing Warsaw, RG, and I'd guess at least one grass court warm up. Hopefully she can have some nice runs there! :)

 Still top 50! This is where the bulk of her points are from, but hard is her best surface!! I believe she got to R2 in Stanford and Cincy. Then QF at US Open. She can definitely get some good results at the warm ups to give her confidence going into the US Open! Go Mel!!

I did the math. With her qualifying and reaching R2 at Stanford and Cincy and then the Open, she will be top 100 after the Open. I believe she would be in the 90s. She gets a couple of wins in a few events, and a couple at the Open, she should be fine.

^ So that's if she loses R1 everywhere? Which I don't think will happen, but worst case scenario?

I'm confused
So if she loses everything she'll still be top 100? :p

Good thing about top 100 is automatic entry to Grand Slams. But I really want her to be seeded this year.

The points system rewards players who play a lot, even if they don't always win.

I'm not crazy about the system: it invites burn out over the course of a year long season which basically has no offseason.

Along with the punishing nature of play on hardcourts, this invites the creation of very short careers, typically marred by injuries, burn out, frustration and a lot of heartache.

Pro tennis, especially women's tennis, exploits and burns out young players like I've never seen in sny other pro sport.

The pressure to succeed has got to be overwhelming, given her very early success and considerable sponsorship support (for someone so new to the tour and with relatively few results).

I think she's taken some time at Bollettierri Academy to train. Perhaps this is a sign that she really does want to mix it up as far as her instruction and training is concerned. If she wants to become a consistent top 30 caliber player, there must be some significant improvement in her game (especially her serve), and this has not been happening with her current coach.

Then, there's the very real possibility that her peak abilities are not necessarily top 20 or 25 but more like top 50?

Yeah, that's because Charleston was held a week later last year. :awww: She earned 120 pts by reaching the QTRs in 2010. The good news is that she doesn't have any pts to defend until Wimbledon . So the only way to go is up :bounce:

If she can win some matches this year on clay  I think playing some of these MMs like Estoril will help her.

Melanie has dropped from the low 30's out of the top 100 altogether.

There must be something VERY fishy going on if she is not at least considering a coaching change.

She'll have a great opportunity to get back into the top hundred easily if she has a good run at the us open.
