Kleybanova in that second set was just awful. Flavia didnt have to do much but keep the ball in play.

But so happy! <3

I guess it's a good thing Flavia decided to ask for a Wildcard. I can see her getting to the final if she keeps that play up, although she needs to get more first serves in. That second serve just sits there.

Flavia had it going today. This is a good victory against the ballbashing Klaybanova. Now Flavia does not have to worry about Yanina, since she lost to Martic. Flavia is a great athlete.

Flavia played a very nice match. I think she is probably as good indoors these days as she is on clay. It could even be her best surface right now. This was a fine display and Flavia did a fine job absorbing Kleybanova's power and in the end totally breaking down her game. Really good to see. :)

Keep it up Flavia :yeah:

Decent enough match to watch.

Kleybanova has incredible impact on her shots, but she has such predictable shot selection and subsequent placement. She has such CC affectations, to the point where she's barely able to finish the points, even if her groundstrokes are gigantic. Against someone like Pennetta who scurries and anticipates so well, it's a futile tactic.

One thing i've noticed about the Kleybanova forehand too is that she can't really hit through it effectively. With that obscure head-movement, she's actually pulling off her shot, causing imbalance and as a result her body-weight is moving backwards. There were many a rally where she would hit a huge FH and not be able to hit a finishing FH because she'd already relinquished her aggressive positioning by not moving through the shot. She needs to find a way to keep her head down on that forehand. It's causing so much fragmentation with the rest of her game.

Flavia did her usual essentials. High first serve percentage in crucial games/points and was able to construct points with great ease. When Pennetta plays someone who is obviously less mobile than herself, it really accentuates her shot-making. It probably does flatter to deceive, but she is able to bring out a stream of shots.

Although her results have been a bit off Flavia is playing pretty well this year and there aren't really any signs of a drop off this year. Top 10 has to be the goal for the year.

I keep waiting for Kleybanova to begin consistently winning matches like these but it just hasn't eventuated.

Well done, Flavia.
