COME ON MELANIE!!!! :shout::bigclap::worship:

With the wins from Queen Bethanie and Melanie, the USA is up 2-0 to France. And reguardless of what happens in the next 2 singles rubbers we have to like our chances in dubs!! Great job today American girls! :worship: Keep up the hard work! :D

Melanie is such a good player! She deserved to be in the QF of the Us Open. Can't believe that a girl like her can play like that !

Team USA, even without the Williams Sisters are a really good team !

Why can't she play this decent at WTA level?

I'm rooting for Oudin to clinch the tie against Cornet. That way, Captain Fernandez can get Christina McHale some singles action. :yeah:

This match was WTA-level. The question you meant to ask was, "Why can't Melanie play this well in tournaments?"

Fed Cup is not the WTA.

Mel :yeah: Depleted USA team > Depleted FRA team

I also hope McHale gets some playing time tomorrow.

Fed Cup is not the WTA.
Then why does the WTA Tour count Fed Cup matches on the players' won-loss records?

Those people are just being difficult. Your original point was a valid one.

Why not?

They count grand slams too, which are also not WTA...

The WTA Tour gives ranking points for those as well. Strike two for you.

So you are telling me that grand slams are not WTA-level? :)

Would they play that next singles match if USA goes up 3-0? In the Italy finals, they skipped it and just played the doubles as an exhibition.

No they're not. They're ITF.

I think the point the original poster was trying to make is that Melanie seems to step up for Grand Slams and Fed Cup (both ITF) and does not maintain this quality at week-in-week-out WTA-level events.

Mel played a good match but she didn't play great tennis. She was a bit hesitant, sometimes timid. The commentators said she lacked confidence.

There's nothing like a win to shake off rust and build confidence! MJF also seems to be able to make her focus. Go Mel - get two wins here!

I agree that the coaching really seems to help Mel. She has a tendency to get down on herself, but MJ doesn't let her get too low and doesn't let her fall apart.

If Melanie wins the third rubber they'll probably change Queen Bethanie out and put Christina in but so far tomorrows singles matches are Oudin vs Cornet, Queen Bethanie vs Parmentier.
