Since many called him a crackpot, a know-nothing, etc for his thoughts on Wozniacki and Wickmayer, I assume they will also find his thoughts and conclusions in this article to be ridiculous. Have fun . . lol.

Serena Williams at the Australian Open: Winner takes all
By Douglas Perry, The Oregonian
January 30, 2010, 8:54AM

Serena Williams played hard-hitting, controlled tennis to win her second consecutive Australian Open and 12th career major title today. She proved once again that she's the best player on the WTA tour, a status she's held off and on ever since winning the U.S. Open for the first time way back in 1999. Now, at the age of 28, she's completed her most dominant 12 months of tennis since the "Serena Slam" of 2002-03.

Justine Henin made Serena earn it, going on a five-game winning streak in the middle of the match to force a third set. Throwing her small frame into every shot, pushing forward whenever possible, she took the match to Serena -- and for a while it looked like she was going to run away with it.

In the end, though, it was Serena's conservative, straightforward game plan that made the most sense. She didn't panic when Henin got hot; she stuck with what's worked for her all tournament long: a big serve, solid groundstrokes, nerves of steel. The final score: 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Henin was trying to match countrywoman Kim Clijsters by coming out of retirement and immediately winning a major. (Who's going to return to tennis to make a run at Roland Garros? Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario?) This has not put the WTA in the best possible light, suggesting that the drop-off from the top handful of players is steep indeed.

Maybe it is, but Serena Williams showed that she deserves to be the one at the top -- and that she could stay up there for quite some time to come.

You act like the two positions are mutually exclusive.

People are saying he's idiotic for believing that Caro and Yani are the "saviors" of the game. The fact he believes that Serena is the best has nothing to do with the former. Two different topics entirely.

Golovinjured.

Saying that Serena Williams is the best of this generation, or the best right now, isn't exactly demonstrating tennis knowledge. It's demonstrating common knowledge.

His points seem rather reasonable in their obviousness to me.

Stating that "someone is idiotic" is very different to opining that "what someone is saying is idiotic."

lol.

Saying what you do in this post isn't knowledge at all - it's idiocy.

So if an idiot for whatever reason says 2 x 2 = 4 you will be insisting 2 x 2 = 5 solely because he's an idiot?

You don't have to be a rocket science to know that people were responding to his OPINION. You know that. Why play dumb?

Precisely why I did not volunteer to write that article.
In fairness to myself though, mine is a spelling error, a typo.
I can't say the same for the post I criticized and I hear many people say that.
( Could have went is another common one)
