where are all the haters. After demolishing Govortsova, Mayr was nice and gave Ms Keothavong 4 games. (waiting for the injury excuses)

this is precisely why Katie should've played. Obviously she is (and has been before) sidelined in favour of other players despite being relatively in form and beating Mayr two weeks ago.

Have to question Nigel's decision-making here. If he was planning on playing Anne in singles, shouldn't he have put her in the (relatively meaningless) doubles yesterday to get some match play in, rather than throwing her into her first competitive match since July against someone she has problems with?

Well they're gonna come considering she's been out for 7 months and even now hasn't fully healed.

She can't win against a fit anyone on grass, really.

I think they should've put her in the singles against the useless Bosnians but apparently playing in that tie would mean no protected ranking. Which makes no sense whatsoever, by the way.

But still a terrible decision by Nigel. He did the same in the final doubles tie vs Poland last year.

But welcome back Anne!

because she doesnīt beat top 100 players (just some weak ass players)
because she plays manny tournaments a year
because of an incident with a sucky player from Georgia

Only logical reason for playing Keothavong would be if O'Brien was injured. I suspect he just f*cked up big time though.

I really do question Sears' decision making at times. Katie beat Patricia at the Australian Open quite comfortably, yet he decides to throw in someone who hasn't played since July and lost against Mayr in their only previous meeting. It's obvious that Nigel has his favourites, even if Katie was world number one he'd still rather play Anne. If Anne felt ready to play, then good for her wanting to be out there, but why not give her a warm-up in the doubles against the Bosnians rather than play in a pretty important tie against the Austrians, who look certain to go top of the group now. But at least Anne is back :)

Congrats Nigel

From the BBC website:

British captain Nigel Sears said: "Naturally I'm disappointed but we were beaten by a better team on the day.

"It was a lot to ask from Annie. I took a risk putting her in after being out for a long time, but she had been playing so well in practice I thought it was worth the risk and I knew that to get through perhaps the later stages of this group she would need to have some matches behind her.

"Unfortunately she couldn't come up with it today, although Mayr played very well. It was a risk I took that didn't come off."

She probably should have comeback against the Bosnian nobodies instead of a top 100 player - a player who she lost to just before her injury. But anyways, it's just good to see Anne back :bounce:

Congrats to Mayr, I guess  (and this thread has been absolutely hilarious to read :sobbing: Thank you Mayr fan(s) :yeah:)
