Playing it every other year and making it all at once like the Semi's and Finals used to be, would make it more valuable to players and motivate them to play more often IMO.

Of course I care b/c my country have two elite WTA players but don't have any decent WTA tournament, so this is unique chance to see them in action against other elite players in Serbia. Same thing about Davis Cup. So this question is more relevant for members which countries is not TOP5 contenders for title in FED CUP (or Davis Cup).

But I must agree that format is completely outdated and wrong, and should be changed for sure in some kind of "WORLD CUP" format where TOP8 (or TOP16) nations should compete in big two-week event.... or something like that (despite this means no more actions in Belgrade).

I don't give a shit at all. New Zealand's fed cup team is a non-factor so .

Davis Cup hell yes though. As Nando is DC king.

A king for beating Acasuso in 5 sets on Acasuso weakest surface. I don't think so

Ferrero and Nadal , yes . Those guys are Davis Cup heros in Spain

As for the question , I love Fed Cup

Ok maybe I exaggerated, but Nando's won the deciding rubber to give Spain the title the last two years (you conveniently forgot his straight sets dubs win w/ Lopez at the end of last year). He does his bit. :p

I do. I find the team aspect interesting.

It's boring. Not many of the top players play for there team. So it's really no use at having such thing.

The 2005 final at Roland Garros was the tournament' swan song. Since then it's all gone downhill.
Now it's just a meaningless tournie that pollutes WTA calendar.

A little. Dont they think have it every year is too much? Would it be better to have it every 4 years? Just like football world cup...

it should have a MM this week...i just want to watch tennis...don't want to wait until saturday or even didn't have a scoreboard..

Why should the fans care when it's obvious neither the majority of the players or the ITF do?

The Fed Cup has always been kind of the stepsister to Davis Cup, but now it's just a joke. It desperately needs to be reformulated and reincorporated into a revamped calendar, because it could be such a great event.

Hard to say. Some players are ready to die on the court for their country, so I'm just curious to see what happens.

don't give a shit at all, never have and never will. it's a meaningless competition. i do wish my faves good luck in it, but i don't care at all about their results be it positive or negative.

No, same goes for Davis Cup.

I also hate that people feel that you have to support a player just because they're from the same country as you. Tennis is an individual sport - I support individuals.

It's kind of interesting. The team spirit or the patriotism or whatever the factor is about the Fed Cup seems to give wings to some players so they beat someone they would usually lose to in a regular tournament.

I care a bit, mostly for my country, but I keep an eye on what happens in other ties as well. ;)

You are so right Max! Everyone knows it is just a stepping stone for the Olympics therefore they should just have the ties after all the majors, the year before the Olympics and the finals at the end of the regular season. I like the team concept and it could be fun but more thought and incentive needs to be put in it to get the top players to participate.

yeah, for sure...... i like to see Hantuchova, Cibulkova and Rybarikova in one team.... :hearts:

I liked it, but hate the new schedule. The first tie right after a Grand Slam, then after Charleston in April then you have to wait until November for the Final. They need to fix it again:o

But I like Fed Cup, Go Team USA:rocker2:

To have this thing EVERY year is ridiculous. It would have more impact if held no more than every 2 years. Maybe less because of the Olympics now.

I care very much for a few reasons, first this is the first time in history Serbia is playing in World group, second R1 is played in Belgrade, and some good players a part from ana and jj will be here... and in the end, i'll be watching it live :) can't wait

Like the great Martina Hingis said, I need air to live, I don't need the French Open.
I don't need Fed Cup, but I will enjoy it this weekend.
I enjoy it more than most tournaments. This is more entertainment, imo, than a Tier II type event

I like it, but it would be more interesting if the most important players themselves cared a bit more about it.

Where is the option: Not at all!

Fed-Cup is the weak try to make tennis a team-sport! But it's not! Let's face it!

I definately care about it and there are countries that I find myself very fond of where I support almost all their players even if I am not actually from that country. Notably, I love the Romanian and Slovak teams and root hard for them but I also like the Czech, Polish, Kazakhs, Italian and Japanese sides too.

I do however hate the format of the lower divisions as I really believe Fed Cup like Davis Cup should be done in a home and away manner. Having teams compete in a neutral country ruins the whole spirit of it. And it doesn't help either when these events don't even get given livescores. But strangly this makes me root for the teams I like who are stuck in those shitholes known as the Europe/Africa Zone and the Asia/Oceania Zone even more.

Truthfully, I would be over the moon if Romania could escape the hell that is the Europe/Africa zone into the relative dignity and relevance that is World Group II.
