Clearly any poster/fan of someone other than Serena will say yes. Still, the right decision was made. The only reason that so many people were pissed is because it took them so long to come up with the fine.

No of course not! I wanted her banned for about 48 hours, and then I got over it and realized, ahem, she IS women's tennis at the moment. Justine vs. Serena, while not a classic, was nonetheless the best women's final we've had in years--probably since 2005 Wimbledon.

Uhm no, the Wimbledon 2006 was a gem. :) Much better than the AO 10 Final.

Of course not! We would have missed out on a nice grand slam final.

And she shouldn't have been fined either. That whole thing was blown way out of proportion.

Let me be clear. The purpose of this thread is not for any fan base to come in here and gloat. I just wanted to see honest reactions to what happened in Australia. I strongly believe that if a person does not like me, I want them to tell me and allow me to remove myself from them. I would much rather them be honest with me than behave passive aggressively towards me.

Well I haven't heard Williams fans say the wish "Classy Kim" hadn't come out of retirement and look at all the damage she's done; lineswomen cheating for her and everything... ;)

No,

I just wanted Serena to grow up a little and I think the threat of suspension was a blessing in disguise.

Honestly all that threat of suspension did was force her to play the political correctness game better. Serena does not feel any different than she did when the altercation happen. You can modify her outward behavior you can't affect her inward feelings.

I think she probably *should* have been banned in the name of fairness, like any low-ranked scrub would have been if they did what she did, but I'm glad she wasn't. I want as many great players competing in the game as possible (which is why I welcome the returns of Justine and Kim). The suspended sentence was absolutely the right move, and something I'm on record on this forum as saying I wanted right from the start.

She should have been banned, losing in r1 or winning it. She behaved like a furious intimidating nonmember of the tour in a SF of a Grand Slam. Therefore. May she win RG, Wimby and the UO next, but this should have been done, in the name of a peaceful tennis that just benefits from the sport not from aggression.

so YES

TheAllan

If those Justine fans felt the same before the tournament, then there's nothing wrong with sticking to their opinion. There are non-Justine fans who think she should have been banned as well. However, it certainly would be petty for someone to change their opinion after seeing her win the tournament. I just have my doubts that this is the case in more than a few instances, and I would find it even more unlikely if this was the prevailing view anywhere, even on Justine fan forums.

She should have been forced into a date with Mary Carillo, complete bullshit she wasn't made to do this.

Of course she should have been allowed to play, it was an in the moment type of incident.

No she shouldn't have been banned. There are far worse things Serena could have done, IMO. People get caught in the heat of the moment, they're competing for glory, Serena made a mistake. The end. She knows it was wrong, she said it herself...and she's BEEN saying it. Why would you ban someone who is the face of women's tennis as it's number one player, and one of an array of stars (she, Venus, the Belgians, Sharapova, Davenport, Hingis, and sometimes Ivanovic)
