View Full Version : "Game-wise Kirilenko is comparable to Hingis" -- Tarpischev

Tarpischev regarding Kirilenko's performance at the Oz:

Kirilenko has improved her fitness and stamina, that's why she's able to compete with the top-20 nowadays. I think she should work on her athleticism further because game-wise she's already comparable with Hingis, Myskina, Kournikova who all played intellectual tennis.

 Maria does have a lot of variety, but that doesn't automatically make anyone smart player. And people need to stop with the Hingis comparisons. Honestly. Even Martina's talent took years and years of her mother drilling it into her from such a young age, so I think people just need to face the fact that there will never be another Hingis.

I told all of you when kirilenko completly bitch slapped cocktail pova all over the court in round 1 that kirilenko's game is about the same style than hingis. She doesnt care about power shots, she care about stamina, gaming, gut feelings, anticipation and athletic ability. Kirilenko will be top 20 and maybe top 10 is she can improve even more consistency about her defensive game style. Hingis was the BEST PURE PLAYER OF ALL TIME, WITHOUT ANY DOUBT. If only kirilenko can have 40% of hingis consistency and believe. She can stay in top 10 for years.

She has the attributes, she can do big things on this tour, unlike one dimensional barbies like sharapova and *rip* vaidisova who can only do one thing, without thinking.:wavey:

Peak Anna was a very quick thinker on court.

I think Maria has good variety, but I also think she lacks the ability to look at her game objectively and instead turns to other people for advice on how to play. This is why she rarely changes tactics mid-match, despite having the weapons to do so.

WTF?

Hingis herself was only sitting around the 5-10 mark playing against the players that are still around today. What on earth makes you think that a player not even half as good as her (going by your own "If only kirilenko can have 40% of hingis consistency" line) would be able to do it for years?

And the reason why 'Cocktail Pova' ( WTF is that even meant to mean?) has done so much more than Kirilenko is because she has stamina, gaming, gut feelings, anticipation and athletic ability AND she can hit the fuck out of a ball.

Sad if you're someone who mopes on and on about the gamestyle Hingis brought being so much better than the evil 'power shots' of today, but everyone else seems to have gotten over it. Try and do the same.

I like Kiri's game and her good net play, but girl has major lack of power to hit through some other capable defenders, like Zheng showed in QF match...What impresses me the most about her game nowadays is her revamped attitude on court - she seems to be more aggressive and menatally stronger than ever before

Kirilenko has more variety than most players on tour (though I think she's overrated in this regard) but having variety does not make you a smart player. You have to know how to use it and she usually doesn't.

Hingis has more variety than Kirilenko but, more crucially, she was a smarter player.

The other big difference between them is that Hingis had much more self-belief.

I think the reason she struggled so much against Jie was because she had nothing left, plus she just didn't play well. But yes, she had a really great attitude through most of the tournament.

I fully agree. Although in her last 2 matches she was getting beaten up/injured and she did start to chip'n'charge and S+V a lot and it worked so well. She just needs to do more of that. Maybe it's coming with maturity.

This.

I think Maria needs to be more confident in her ability, I'm not sure if being a quick-thinker comes naturally or not but if Maria is able to think on her feet on court, she would be way more dangerous.

And I didn't watch any of Maria's match at the AO (:() but did she not hit through her shots? She was flattening out her forehand a lot late last year, and it was powerful enough to win her points I thought.

First of all, hingis was NUMBER 1 for years, she set record of longevity with her number 1 ranking. Hingis will still be top 2 of the world, WITH THE SAME GAME SHE HAD BEFORE RETIRING. Also, cocktail pova has no stamina (my 60 years uncle has more than her), she has no gaming, is laziest player on tour by far (she doesnt catch up to ball 5 feet beside her), shes a broken robot (no anticipation and no athletic background at all). I can hit the ball harder than her, WITHOUT LOOKING.

Kirilenko is no Hingis, nobody will come close to miss swiss as for her tennis abilities, grinding, spirit and hustling. But Kirilenko have the potential to be a 40% hingis, and that 40 percent will put her in top 10 easily. (while 1980 computers like cocktail will quit the game for good). Kirilenko has the stamina of hingis and the athletics of hingis. With her showing at the auzi open, she proves to herself and real tennis fans that she's capable to hang with jankovic, cibulkova, kuzzie, azarenka and with more confidence about herself and her gamestyle commitment she will come close to clijsters, henin, serena and dementieva. Brainless bashers like safina or cocktail pova is FAR behind kirilenko, NOT EVEN IN THE SAME LEAGUE.

Try to do the same, follow the sport a little bit. Believe in yourself, dont quit like cocktail princess:wavey:

Yeah, she definitely took a step back in that regard. Her forehand definitely lacked the power and wasn't flat like late last year. I actually uploaded some highlight videos from the Sharapova match but Tennis Australia got it deleted so i'll wait a couple of months before uploading them again. :o

I don't think it's a horrible comparison. It's better than the Chakvetadze one. But in the end, there's only one Hingis.

ys
Jan 30th, 2010, 12:33 AM
I think it is a good comparison. In the same way her game is just effective result-wise as Martina's game would have been these days. Those players can still get a big scalp if a big hitter hits the wall, like Sharik did. Problem is, even someone like Zheng managed to out-Hingis her after that.. And then look at what happened to Zheng when she ran into a true modern tennis player - a combination of power with variety.

Every single player you mentioned has achieved so much more than Kirilenko. She's a good player, but you're only making a mockery of the things she has achieved by suggesting that all it'd take would be a little confidence and commitment for her to be on the same level as multiple Grand Slam champions.

You're right about one thing though. Safina and Sharapova are NOT in the same league as Kirilenko. They're much better. Every single statistic proves this. Only in your deluded mind is it untrue.

Anyway, as I said: fucking moron.

To respond to you, i dont care about stats, its about how you play the game, how much you know about the game. Stats lies, facts dont. The fact is that kirilenko has the potential to be a top 10, like cibulkova has the potential to doing it. These two look a like a lot.

The fact is cocktail waitress is make to be an automatic ball machine, because she played like one. Maybe training kirilenko with her practice sessions before indian wells.

To respond to you, cocktail dreamy fans like you should close yourself in a dark closet, because your favourite joke is not gonna win another tourney in her life. You can quit it too before it gets worst:kiss:

Kirilenko can't even volley half the time. WTF is he talking about. Kirilenko = no weapon and no consistency up until this AO. This AO will be her last QF, MARK MY WORDS.

:help: Are you being serious? Out of the singles players, Maria is one of the best volleyers in the game period.

And she has played well in the past, she was injured last year. But this is her third QF in a row so good luck with that prediction. One of the dumbest psts i've ever read on here.

Well... He said comparable not is just like her game or just as good or anything like that, Hingis fans need to relax.

Maybe it will be her last slam QF.. but she will always have this one and it was a great achievement for her something she worked very hard to achieve.

to respond to you, i will say that cocktail had achieved nothing, her past victories are based by opponents mistakes. The luck was on her side for years, thats the reason why she made (past verb) money off this sport.

To respond to you, I like the power game, but not every power game. I like a gamestyle with shots making with a purpose, not hitting balls without even looking at it, or not aiming it at some predetermined target. Thats why cocktail *gaming* is much below a player like rossana de los rios of all people. Cocktail could learn from kirilenko's. Kiri does so many good things on court, she can teach so many to that south beach waitress
