Im not sure who all is denfending what, but Serena's about 2000 points ahead of Safina who is defending finalist points at the French open.

I think Serena has points in Doha and Miami to defend. Except for RG quarters Serena has no clay points. I guess the stats people can elaborate.

Not much to defend, mainly the final Loss at Miami and the RG quarters. The 4 match losing streak last year might help her pointswise if she plays the US clay season.

No we don't.

Serena has loads of points to defend coming up. Premier SF in Paris, Premier 5 semis from Dubai, Premier Mandatory final from Miami. Those points certainly add up to a substantial amount. Wozniacki has far less points to defend than Serena up until the end of March, and she will be a serious threat for the #1 spot if Serena carries on turning in her half-assed efforts at WTA tournaments like last year.

Those aren't enough to lose a 2000pt lead.

You don't get the point, the emphasis was on numerical, not #1. :haha:

You sure? Serena has 1200 points to defend in the next two months. If she were to lose on Saturday, and then not play / do badly in everything for a while, then all Wozniacki would need to do is maybe make a final and two semis at Dubai/IW/Miami, and she's in striking distance of #1. I'm not saying I think it'll happen, but it is possible.

bump.

what are the chances now??

Provided Serena gets over her minor injuries and aches she should be fine and in good form and able to stay at #1 through Wimbledon. She has tournament points in Paris, Dubai and Miami through the first week of April. And apart from her 1/4 final points at Roland Garros, she should be ok thru Wimbledon.

Until the clay season her points are on hard courts and she should be expected to do well and reclaim her Miami title, which she has won 5 times. Frankly, she should skip Paris, rest and relax and be pumped for Dubai where she lost to Venus last year.

Wozni might have a chance yet she still has to win and avoid injuries herself.

And? Without those points she'll still be able to stick in front of Dinara. And We know she's gonna do well in Dubai and Miami.

probably not...if I was Serena I wouldn't play again until I didn't need all that tape...most important thing is to show up at the French Open at 100%!!! :armed:

Well the Paris web site has her listed as being entered as of today. I don't expect her to play there though where she had to withdraw from her semi against E. Demented. Just playing...I like Elena. I'd even like for her to win the French thi year if Serena can't. :) That would be great for her and women's tennis.

youizahoe can you tell me what the credits are for? I only have 329 posts but 1100 more credits than you with your outrageous 29K posts.

I think so.
Only Venus seems to be the only person capable of challenging her.
Oh, and maybe Azarenka.

Not gonna happen. Wozniakis STILL only made it past the 4th round in a major 1 time...considering thats the only place she can gain points. she wont be #1. which is why i didnt include her....

I thought Kim had a shot at number one this year..but with her early lost in Australia that's seems very unlikely now...and I don't expect her to play too many tournaments neither. So I think Serena will remain number one. With the YEC + AO titles under her belt and a lot of room to pick up points at the non-slams tournaments ...yeah its pretty much a lock.
