Sadly Amelie lost to Justine 6/1, 7/6 but at least she came back from 4/1 in the second set! Anyway, it was only an exhibition ( ) but good experience to play Justine as they haven't played each other in ages! I'm sure it will motivate Amelie to work really hard between now and Australia .

Justine's no slouch and I'm thrilled Amelie participated. 7/6 in the second, not such a bad score. Sounds like she really rallied to come back!

That's exactly what she needs, match play against top players. I agree with you Lapin; it should motivate her to work hard.

I'm no real Ameliefan, but just wanted to give some comments on the match Justine-Amelie.

Justine is always very strong in the beginning of the year, and that really showed on court. Amelie played well, but her serves weren't very good. I thinks she hit one ace in the whole game. Her condition seemed ok, and her fore- and backhand were not too bad. She made some nice points on her backhand. But she made too much unforced errors, and she had lots of problems with the big angles Justine makes with her backhand. There were many points constructed by Justine by making a strong angle with her backhand, and then follow to the net and finish it.

In my opinion the battle of the backhands was won by Justine.

Justine started to make more unforced errors and she didn't take her two matchpoints. After that Amelie started to play better, even rebroke Justine. Justine lost confidence at that moment, and Amelie started to serve well (at last). Finally the tiebreak: well that was all for Justine 7-2 I believe.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about her serve (get to work on that Amelie)!

Thanks for your report Per4ever! As Sonja said we really appreciate some news when it's not possible to see the match itself. It's nice of you to take the time to come into our thread to tell us about it!

Amelie's serve, IMHO, seems to vary. Sometimes, it is a real weapon. In the Fed Cup match against Elena Dementieva, Amelie won so many points with a wide swinging serve to both the ad. and deuce court. I guess she needs to work on consistency, but she has just had a two week break from tennis, so maybe she's a little rusty at the moment!
