View Full Version : Anne's 2010 Season!!

Jan 24th, 2010, 06:03 PM
i just couldnt resist making this thread, even if her season isnt starting for another couple of weeks!! :p
her first two events of the year will be:

Fed Cup (from 1st Feb)
$100k Midland (from 8th Feb)

fingers crossed this will be a good, injury free year :yeah:
best of luck anne, go get 'em :bounce:

Jan 26th, 2010, 04:10 PM
Midland is 100K

Jan 29th, 2010, 03:29 PM
course it is :p

Feb 4th, 2010, 10:40 PM
Anne's first match back didn't go to plan: a 26 26 lost to Mayr. Not much to expect from her first match back in almost a year.

Feb 5th, 2010, 08:56 PM
i expected more then 4 games  but im sure results will get better :)

Feb 5th, 2010, 10:42 PM
She won her second against Belarus so she is just starting to get back into the swing of things.

Feb 6th, 2010, 12:02 AM
That's a good result, especially the breadstick second set. I don't think it'll take her long to get back to form. A good showing in Midland and then again in Memphis could kick start her entire year. She'll fall down the rankings, possibly out of the top 200 after Warsaw, but then it's a clear road ahead to the top 100 again.

Feb 6th, 2010, 03:57 PM
yeahh, defeating Dzehalevich is a good result :) especially that 2nd set

Feb 10th, 2010, 11:30 PM
Anne wins her first official comeback match at the 100K Midland defeating Lisjak 3-6 6-2 7-5!

Feb 11th, 2010, 07:08 PM
On Center court tonight!! Good Luck My Laotian Princess!

Feb 12th, 2010, 12:46 AM
Double Breadstick win!!

Feb 12th, 2010, 01:29 AM
Welcome back Anne!

Feb 12th, 2010, 01:35 AM
Great to see her gets some wins under her belt. I'm hoping she can build up confidence quickly and jump back up into main tour level events.

Feb 15th, 2010, 10:57 PM
Anne defeats Barrois in 1st rd Memphis 6-1 6-3

Feb 15th, 2010, 10:58 PM
Fantastic! Great first up win. :yeah:

Feb 17th, 2010, 03:54 PM
I noticed Anne is currently blogging about her tennis and other activities here http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/Anne_Keothavong/anne-keothavong-s-blog/

Feb 17th, 2010, 10:02 PM
Anne takes out MLDB in straights. Looks like she getting back into her groove in Memphis. I think she made semis here before. Nice to see her climbing back up where she belongs. Next up Sprem!

Feb 18th, 2010, 10:13 AM
Great stuff. Good luck anne against sprem!

Feb 18th, 2010, 09:21 PM
Anne is into the semi's with a 64 63 win over Sprem. I am in shock as to how well this comeback has gone.

Feb 18th, 2010, 09:31 PM
Well done anne!:bounce:

Feb 18th, 2010, 10:51 PM
All-Brit final please.

Arvidsson in the SF.

Feb 19th, 2010, 06:19 PM
fingers crossed she reaches the final here :D

Feb 20th, 2010, 10:13 AM
She lost 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 :(
Still an excellent achievement in her first WTA tournament since being back. Anyone know where she is playing next?

Feb 20th, 2010, 05:27 PM
50K+H Biberach is where she is listed.

Feb 23rd, 2010, 01:31 PM
Looks like she withdrew.........Not sure if she on Monterray quali list.

Feb 23rd, 2010, 06:28 PM
Hopefully! Better chance for more points I think.

Anne lost against Tamira Paszek 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of Miami.

Apr 1st, 2010, 12:30 PM
She had a good win against Tammy yday, plays Camerin next! GL!

Apr 3rd, 2010, 04:11 AM

A Wilson interview with Anne Keothavong

Apr 5th, 2010, 02:16 PM
She had a good win against Tammy yday, plays Camerin next! GL!

Lost 2-6 4-6 :(

Apr 25th, 2010, 04:47 PM

Good luck Anne! It's certainly winnable, lets get a good start to the clay season, ehhh? ;)

Apr 27th, 2010, 01:33 PM
Anne finally won 6-3, 0-6, 6-4
Only 5 points in the 2nd set :tape:
Shame she will probably play the #1 seed next.

Apr 27th, 2010, 04:29 PM
Nice fight. :) Now time to take out CSN.

May 1st, 2010, 08:32 PM
Lost R2 in Rome Q to Sprem. 0-6 3-6

May 2nd, 2010, 12:42 AM
Tough week for her, playing several rounds in Fes, and having to regroup in time for the Rome qualies.

Where does she play next?

May 2nd, 2010, 11:49 AM

May 2nd, 2010, 11:56 AM
I hope she plays Warsaw again.

May 2nd, 2010, 02:36 PM
She would be mad to not try to defend her SF points in Warsaw. The field is a lot stronger this year though.
edit: Just checked the Warsaw thread and she is in the list of players for qualifying.

She's still in Rome playing doubles with Andrea Petkovic.

Anne inches back towards the top 100, she's 105 this week.

May 8th, 2010, 10:55 AM
OMG. Why isn't Anne playing Madrid? :o

May 10th, 2010, 03:18 PM
No idea, I think she's still in the Warsaw tournament so she'll get some clay practice before FO.

From Anne's Twitter: "Found out today that I've moved in to the main draw of the French Open :-) "

May 13th, 2010, 02:14 PM
If you are a fan of Anne's, check out her latest official blog post (http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/Anne_Keothavong/anne-keothavong-s-blog/posts/home-comforts/)as she prepares for the Polsat Warsaw Open.

May 15th, 2010, 03:32 PM
Anne just won 6-3 6-3 in her Q1 match in Warsaw. :D

May 17th, 2010, 01:59 PM
Anne lost in the final qualifying round to Greta Arn 6-3, 1-6, 4-6
Anne's ranking will now be around 150. :( She really needs at least 1 win at the french now to get her ranking back up.

May 17th, 2010, 07:00 PM

May 17th, 2010, 10:08 PM
Damn that's a shame her ranking is going to take a real dive - eek!

May 18th, 2010, 05:33 PM
On the plus side, she has almost nothing to defend for the rest of the year, so hopefully she has hit rock bottom and can start to improve from here.

And at least the drop comes too late to affect her entry into Garros and Wimbledon.

May 21st, 2010, 12:38 PM
Anne has got Flavia Pennetta in first round of French :help:

May 21st, 2010, 03:09 PM
As good as Flavia is on clay, apart from winning Marbella shes actually been in bad form. If Anne takes control of the points quickly and goes for it, she definitly has a chance of winning. If she plays defensive, she has NO chance. :(

May 23rd, 2010, 02:32 PM
Lost 2 and 2.

.....onto the grass we go! :D

May 23rd, 2010, 02:36 PM
Lost 2 and 2.

.....onto the grass we go! :D
Well she's not much better on grass! :p

At least there won't be as much pressure on her to do well as the number 3 Brit.

May 25th, 2010, 09:07 AM
Anne is commentating the Henin match on Eurosport!

Jun 9th, 2010, 03:23 PM
Some good news...Keothavong def. Parmentier 4-6 7-5 7-5 in Birmingham.
She'll now play #1 seed Li Na in her second round match.

Jun 9th, 2010, 04:45 PM
WD Anne, nice fight. ;)
Now take out Li, either today if it clears up, or tomorow! :p

Jun 18th, 2010, 03:13 PM
Anne plays Nastya Rodionova in R1 at Wimbledon. Great draw IMO. Veryyy winnable, but we all know what happened vs Mayr last year.:o
GL Anne.:D

Jun 18th, 2010, 03:31 PM
Rodionova lists her favourite surface as grass though  I think she's the definite favourite. Hopefully Anne will prove me wrong

Jun 18th, 2010, 04:05 PM
Anne playing yet anothe rone of the tour's biggest bitches. Good luck!

Jun 18th, 2010, 04:07 PM
Anne will do this, probably in 3 sets. She will be toughened up from last year's embarrassment with Mayr so I am confident she will fight this one out with a win

Jun 22nd, 2010, 01:32 PM
Anne lost 6-3 2-6 4-6  She was up 4-0 in the third, just took her foot off the gas and lost her rhythm

Jun 22nd, 2010, 01:40 PM
Poop. Looks like qulies for the USO then. Probably the best place for her to be honest.

Jun 22nd, 2010, 01:43 PM
Poop. Looks like qulies for the USO then. Probably the best place for her to be honest.
I agree, and besides, she has very little to defend between now and the end of the year. Her ranking can only really improve :)

Jun 22nd, 2010, 07:52 PM
Anne didn't actually play that bad. If you look at the last 6 games of the match, Anastasia was just too consistent for Anne; the rallies got long and most of these ended in an Anne-Errors. Yes, she still should've won from that position, but when your opponent is playing better than you, it's hard.

Always next year Anne.

Also, I'm wondering why Anne isn't playing Stanford?

Jun 22nd, 2010, 07:55 PM
Probably bad memories from Stanford :p

Jun 22nd, 2010, 07:58 PM
True.:p But its also the tournament where she first pushed a top player; in '08 vs Bartoli, she lost 7-5 in the 3rd. :p

Jul 5th, 2010, 12:20 PM
Anne posted a video on her website and is planning on playing Banka Koper Slovenia Open, İstanbul Cup, 2010 e-Boks Danish Open and a US Open warm up tournament before she plays at the US Open where she'll be using her protected ranking to get into the main draw. Good chance to get some points and move back into the top 100. :)

Jul 5th, 2010, 03:07 PM
Hard to clay to Hard.

GL anyway Anne,:) still think it would've been better to play the USO series though, seeing as its her best surface.

Jul 5th, 2010, 04:48 PM
All three of those tournaments are hard courts. I'm a bit surprised too she hasn't gone for the USO series but maybe her ranking prevents her playing them?

Jul 5th, 2010, 06:22 PM
Ohh I had it in my mind that Copenhagen was on clay.:p
Well it's not as bad a decision as I first thought but even so US Hardcourts have been her best surface, I don't really know why she'd want to stay in Europe.

Jul 17th, 2010, 09:54 AM
Anne won her first qualifying round in Portoroz 6-4, 6-3.

Jul 25th, 2010, 01:05 PM
Anne faces Francesca Schiavone in R1 of Istanbul :tape:

Jul 26th, 2010, 09:15 AM
Sucky draw, but Schiavones hardly got much confidence at the moment. Anne could cause an upset here, but she herself isn't exactly playing well. :p

GL Anne. :yeah:

Jul 26th, 2010, 08:14 PM
Anne down 0-4, but match called for darkness. She is 3rd on tomorrow. Hopefully she can get it together till then.

Jul 26th, 2010, 08:16 PM
 at this tournament not having floodlights.

Jul 26th, 2010, 08:19 PM
It does. It was raining, that was the problem.

Jul 26th, 2010, 08:20 PM
Oh, I thought I had seen something about rain but then saw Mforensic's post. :p

Aug 2nd, 2010, 02:02 PM
Anne and Anna have won their first round dubs match in Copenhagen. This should help Anne in getting her feet ready for the hardcourts.

Aug 3rd, 2010, 02:52 PM
Anne wins her first round match in 3!

Aug 3rd, 2010, 06:21 PM
Thank goodness! First win since Bham I think.

Aug 10th, 2010, 11:44 PM
(1)Anne Keothavong (GBR) v (wc)Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN)
Jing-Jing Lu (CHN) v (Q)Chen Liang (CHN)

Anne's quarter in 25k Tallinn, was surprised to see her playing here but she needs some wins. GL! :yeah:

Aug 11th, 2010, 01:21 PM
Anne won her first rond match in Tallinn...unconfirmed score of 6-2 6-3. But she tweeted she won.

Anne is 3 out of the MD in the Bronx. Hoping she gets in so she will be prepared for the USO.

Aug 11th, 2010, 01:35 PM
Nice win Anne, please win here

Aug 13th, 2010, 01:03 AM
25k Tallinn R2: (1)Anne Keothavong (GBR) d. Jing-Jing Lu (CHN) 6-4 6-0 :yeah:

She plays Anna Fitzpatrick in QF.

Aug 13th, 2010, 03:03 PM
Take the title Anne. Her latest twitter about the Brits leaving without her doesnt sound too happy :p She comments: 'how unthoughtful'

Aug 14th, 2010, 01:55 PM
25k Tallinn QF: (1)Anne Keothavong (GBR) d. Anna Fitzpatrick (GBR) 7-5 6-2
25k Tallinn SF: (1)Anne Keothavong (GBR) d. Kristina Kucova (SVK) 6-0 6-4

Now win it all, Anne.

Aug 14th, 2010, 02:13 PM

Aug 15th, 2010, 10:25 PM
(2)Elena Bovina (RUS) d. (1)Anne Keothavong (GBR) 64 41 Ret.

Poor Anne had hip problems. Hopefully she can still take some confidence from reaching the final.

Aug 22nd, 2010, 08:41 PM
Anne's quarter in 100k Bronx

(1/wc)Lucie Safarova (CZE) v (SR)Gabriela Paz (VEN)
Yung-Jan Chan (TPE) v Anna Chakvetadze (RUS)
Pauline Parmentier (FRA) v Anne Keothavong (GBR)
(6)Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) v Sophie Ferguson (AUS)

Aug 24th, 2010, 03:42 PM
Am I missing something? Anne's ranking won't get her into the US Open main draw, but she isn't in qualifying...?? What's the deal?

Aug 24th, 2010, 04:03 PM
Chill  Anne is using a protected ranking that she got due to her time off from injury in order to enter the US open.

Aug 24th, 2010, 05:38 PM
Oh OK, I didn't realise the rules of the protected ranking! Always good to learn something new!

Aug 25th, 2010, 12:05 AM
100k Bronx R1: Anne Keothavong (GBR) d. Pauline Parmentier (FRA) 7-5 6-3

Sevastova next. Keep going Anne :yeah:

Aug 25th, 2010, 05:06 PM
Good match from Anne. A much easier win than in Birmingham. :yeah:

Aug 26th, 2010, 10:44 AM
Anne is through to the doubles semi-finals of the $100,000 ITF Bronx tournament with partner Sevastova :wavey:

Aug 27th, 2010, 12:49 AM
100k Bronx R2: (6) Anastasija Sevastova (LAT) d. Anne Keothavong (GBR) 1-6 6-4 6-4  Good luck in NY, she plays Chan Yung-Jan in R1.

Aug 28th, 2010, 10:53 AM
 A decent match from Anne though. :)

Onto New York.

Aug 31st, 2010, 06:15 PM
Following live scores is so frustrating. :sobbing:

1-5 final set. :o

Aug 31st, 2010, 08:46 PM
Anne speaking after her defeat,

"I'm not the player I was two years ago here (when she reached round three of the US Open). Who knows what's going to happen after this? I'm going to need time to reassess and decide what I want to do."

Im guessing she is thinking about possible retirement. I understand that its a hard defeat to take and she definately isn't the player she was two years ago, but I still believe she can get back where she once was inside the top 50. she hasn't had a great year this year besides the semi-final run at Memphis which means she hasn't calculated much points this year so next year can only get better, im guessing.
I know that she doesn't have any points to defend from now on in this year and every tournaments she plays this year is a bonus but I think if she takes a break now and works hard on her game in the following months in order to be prepared for next year might actually help her produce better results?

I posted this in her game match thread but what do others think?

Aug 31st, 2010, 09:03 PM
It's a disappointing loss but it's not the end of the world, maybe Anne should spend the rest of the year playing ITF's along with maybe Quebec. I can understand how she must feel with the come down of being ranked 150 when you have been as high as 48 but she could be far worse off. To me, the ranking and confidence can only improve from here (she has zero points to defend until next February) so I hope she doesn't drop her head and let the loss bother her too much.

Sep 3rd, 2010, 10:19 AM
She sounds thoroughly down. I think she's being too hard on herself. She had a major injury, and has only been back for half a year.

Most of her career was spent outside the top 100 - it took her a long time to break through, so it's not surprising that she couldn't immediately find that level again. I suppose that having tasted greater success, it's galling to have to go back to the drawing board, but I hope she manages to re-evaluate, and work her way back up into the top 100.

A lot of her success has come in winter season Challengers, so maybe if she can get her head screwed on, she can get some points, match play and confidence over the coming months.

New blog from Anne :)

I know itís been a while since my last blog - but donít give me grief about it. I just havenít been sure what to write about and if anyone would be interested reading about it! Since youíve started, you may as well read on. Iím in Quebec City at the moment getting ready for the Challenge Bell WTA event and Iíve got time on my hands, so here goes...

I guess the US Open is a good starting point as to what to write about. It obviously didnít go very well for me as I crashed out in the first round of the singles and doubles event. The less said about how I handled my singles match tactically and emotionally, the better. Can I pretend the heat got to me or should I just admit I was pretty dumb on the day and accept I was hacked off the court? Literally.

During my post match press, I may have implied that I had had enough of tennis. It was only about twenty minutes after I had walked off court and I was still quite emotional and upset, and incredibly angry with myself. Actually, I was emotional for quite a few days afterwards too - just thinking about the match. I admit, the thought of calling it a day did creep in to my head and I did discuss it with my coach. Anyway, instead of giving in to the devil on my shoulder that was barking in my ear, Iím back practicing and getting ready for my next match and Iím able to put things in to perspective. I may never be a Grand Slam champion or number one in the world but I still believe I can be better than I am today.

One of the reasons why I can put my tennis in to perspective is, whilst chilling in New York, I met up with my friend - sheís someone I admire very much for her courage and energy Ė who was in town. Her sister was hit by a car whilst cycling on holiday and she suffered a serious brain injury which left her in a coma and then intensive care for a long time. Sheís slowly improving but needs round the clock care and listening to my friend talk about her sister makes me feel stupid for getting so upset about a tennis match. Iím sure youíve heard lots of people say it before, but at the end of the day, tennis is just a game and I should really be fortunate for all the other things I have in my life.

Iíve got a run of indoor tournaments coming up and two of them will be challengers in England. When I started my comeback from knee injury in February, I expected my ranking to be higher than it is right now because I surprised myself in my first two tournaments back and played better than I could ever have hoped for. I had no expectations at the time, and thought I could continue to improve and build on that start, but it hasnít quite gone that way. There have been various reasons for this, personally and professionally, but Iím not going to have a moan about it, itís just the way it is and I have to find a way to focus even harder on the task in hand and take responsibility.

Itís my birthday next week and Iíll be the grand old age of 27! A veteran in tennis years but still a spring chicken in the real world! Iím expecting lots of love and presents from everyone, so donít say I didnít remind you. In return, Iíll try and blog more regularly because I know how much you all love reading about me. Please donít leave nasty messages now, try and love my humourÖ ;-)

Anne beat Elisabeth Abanda 6-1 6-1 in the QR1 of Quebec - well done :)

Sep 11th, 2010, 09:04 PM
Nice job Anne!

Sep 12th, 2010, 03:08 PM
Nice to read that Anne has stopped those thoughts about quitting tennis. She still has a lot more to achieve.

Sep 12th, 2010, 04:10 PM
Won QR2 3-6, 6-3, 6-1

Choked a bit serving for the 2nd set at 5-1 but other wise seemed all good and took the match on her first MP.

Sep 13th, 2010, 05:13 PM
Alexa Glatch defeated Anne in the final qualifying stage of Quebec: 2-6 6-2 6-1

What a familiar scoreline that is

Anne :cheer: Keep going!

Oct 22nd, 2010, 02:55 PM
Anne is doing great in Luxembourg! :inlove: I was live there, when she played against Razzano and she has been quite impressive in this match! She was practising with Dementieva and she looked really relaxed. She was also the best dressed player in a match or during practice. :p

Oct 22nd, 2010, 03:09 PM
Congratulations to Anne on a hard fought 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 6-4 win over Iveta Benesova in the quarter finals of Luxembourg! She looked pretty solid throughout.

She will now meet either Vinci or Flipkens in tomorrow's semi-final. Good luck!

Oct 22nd, 2010, 03:54 PM
She has a pretty good shot at a final.

Come on Anne, banish semiothavong :rocker:

Oct 22nd, 2010, 05:22 PM
Anne it's so great to see this result!! the belief must be getting stronger and recovering really well from a few months ago :hearts: congratulations Anne! now make the final :D

Oct 25th, 2010, 12:02 PM

Poitiers R1: Keothavong d. Brianti 6-3 6-0 :cheer:

I think Kvitova is next. Good luck Anne! :)

Oct 27th, 2010, 05:59 PM
Wish I could watch the Kvitova match, if Anne could win that match it would be such a great win for her.

Nov 7th, 2010, 01:34 PM
loses to tennis' biggest brat Putintseva 6-0 7-6 in R1 Nantes. :o
