How the stars of ATC spent their off-seasons
After a long and straining Season Four, the stars of the ATC each found their own ways to rest, recover and prepare for the new season of tennis. I, Maria Kirilenko, exclusively report on the activities of your favorite ATC players during the off-season.
We will start with "World #1" Alicia Molik of Australia. After dominating Season 4 and closing the year out with a YEC title (despite being bitch-slapped by yours truly yet again), Molik did some soul-searching to find herself. What will I do after tennis? Molik decided to take her hand at pole dancing.
Molik with her favorite customer, Javier. The two plan to elope in Las Vegas.
Molik wasn't the first to find true love in the off-season. Grand Slam Champs Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova became an off-court doubles pair.
I watch a lot of 24, so I was able to sneak into Maria's Miami training facility for some exclusive snapshots of the two while "training":
Next we move to the Netherlands, where Michaella Krajicek announced that her official fanclub, after 4 years, finally reached the 10 member mark! :rocker2: I guess there must have been a sale on Marijuana that day. Michaella also attended a four-week "self-help" seminar to gain some much needed confidence in herself and has spent every day reading books.
New tour upstart Nicole Vaidisova, who has spent her time writing a blog nobody cares about, may lead you to believe she and Radek Stepanek are about as done as Anastasia Myskina's chances of making it back to the Top 10, however I exclusively caught the two spending a lot of time together. Aren't they cute? :awww:
Myskina gave birth on December 24th, 2009 and is expected to return at Auckland with a demon child and 30 extra pounds in tact.
Say hello to Anastasia's beautiful child, Milton!
Next, I bring you some happy news, with Britney Spears' comeback in full motion. Fresh off her stunning win in Bali, Britney was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone for her millions of fans.
Britney's next single, "My sister's name is not Abigail", is released on January 28th.
Finally, we come to the Number One Diva in the game, Maria Kirilenko. Besides following all your favorite ATC players, I myself had an exciting off-season. In order, I found time to:
Saved endangered dolphins in Australia and received the National Geographic award for humanitarian of the year:
Went to Disney Land:
And invented a new state of the art Washing Machine:

Vaidisova Calls Out Kirilenko
Vaidisova at Wimbledon in 2009
Perth, AUSTRALIA---Nicole Vaidisova, the world number 9, Rome champion and reigning Wimbledon finalist, has come out with guns blazing without even striking a ball in the opening leg of the ATC season with a stinging blog entry about Maria Kirilenko, the world number 6 and two time finalist last year. Outraged that the overly dramatic and highly overrated diva made insinuating remarks about her and Czech tennis player Radek Stepanek, she had this to say in her blog:
How dare she imply that I'm going out with that ugly, unhygienic, career destroying man named Radek Stepanek. I came on this tour single, and I am still single and have higher standards than that anyway. She is upset that she didn't win a title last year and I did, and certainly had I actually completed an entire season, I would have ended up ranked higher than Kirilenko, having missed an entire hard court season, and a Slam, the indoor season and STILL ending in the top 10. She should spend her time instead of trying to get attention by flirting with fat police officers and slandering people who work hard for their success rather than just getting their way all the time getting her game together, which is clearly on the decline. Need I remind her that I beat her at Wimbledon? Convincingly...against someone who was a clear favorite for the title...
Kirilenko was arrested on I-95 heading away from Miami for intruding upon Maria Sharapova's home where she and Kim Clijsters were training together and was also found to have cocaine in the back seat, looking to plant it in the reigning Roland Garros champion's water in hopes of disqualifying her in time for the Australian Open.
"I think she's just looking for way too much drama. Her tennis is so bad now that she has to try and distract other people or get them banned so she can win a title. We have a very competitive rivalry. She beat me in Auckland and I beat her at Wimbledon and Rome...I don't know, maybe that says something about the situation already. I think it shows that while it's a 2-1 head to head, I'm the one trying harder on the bigger occasions. Rome is the second biggest clay court title in the tour, while Wimbledon speaks for itself," said a very confident Vaidisova after her practice session with Tomas Berdych. "I'm just gonna focus on my game, and whatever that train wreck does, she can do it on her own time."

Slovakia I Wins Tussle Over Belarus; Advances to Hopman Cup Qtrs
Debutant Victoria Azarenka proved too strong for World #8 Daniela Hantuchova
Perth, AUSTRALIA – Despite some early troubles, 6th seed Slovakia I has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hopman Cup exhibition tournament with a 2-1 win over debutant Belarus. First on was the 8th ranked player in the world and recently crowned ‘Most Improved Player’ Daniela Hantuchova. She came out playing good tennis, having a positive winner: unforced error count but still succumbed to newcomer Victoria Azarenka 7-6(1), 7-6(4). Daniela said, “Credit to her. She came out firing, hitting tons of deep shots and hitting out of my comfort zone. She came out with a plan, and she executed. She had nothing to lose.”
Despite the loss, Dani is still optimistic for the upcoming year. “Yeah, it was my first match of the season. Just trying to get my feet wet and get accustomed to playing competitively again. I think it was a good start to the season for sure. I have hopes to finally win the first title of my career.”
Dominik Hrbaty saved Slovakia I from the upset with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-0 win over Max Mirnyi. Dani said, “I’m so happy that Dominik played at such a high level. Credit to him. Without him, I’d be out of the tournament.” Hantuchova teamed up with Hrbaty to take the doubles match over Azarenka/Mirnyi 6-4, 6-4.
In the quarterfinals, Slovakia I is set to face the 2nd seeded Belgian tandem of Kim Clijsters and Olivier Rochus. Dani is excited and prepared for the challenge. “Yeah, Kim and I had some very close matches in the past. I finally got a couple of wins against her towards the end of last year which gives me a lot of confidence. I think it’s gonna be a great tie.” Another Slovakian team made up of Dominika Cibulkova and Lucas Lacko is also in the quarterfinals. Dani commented, “I’m really happy for her. She has made a great debut here beating Vaidisova. I think it’s great that there are two good players coming from Slovakia. It’ll certainly build more interest for tennis in our country.”
Congrats Slovakia! Dani you finally win something! USA/Brit
