View Full Version : Asian tennis icons head to Pattaya

This year’s PTT Pattaya Open, which is being held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya from 7 – 14 February 2010 has been further enhanced by the confirmation that three of Asia’s tennis icons, will be participating in the tournament.

Heading the trio is the tremendously popular Japanese player, Kimiko Date-Krumm is the most successful Asian woman tennis player ever, she reached her zenith in 1995 when she was ranked No 4 in the world and has to date 8 WTA Tour titles to her name. After a 10 year absence from tennis, she returned to the WTA tour in 2009 and astonishingly won in Seoul at the age of 38. In her first full year back in tennis she has rocketed up to no 69 in the world rankings.

Joining Date in Pattaya will be Indian superstar Sania Mirza who was also on the comeback trail in 2009. She started the year outside the top 100 but had moved up to 57 by the year-end. Her results include a final appearance here in Pattaya and semi-finals in Birmingham and Osaka. She also claimed her first Grand Slam title in 2009 winning the mixed doubles with Bhupathi at the Australian Open.

The third player in the trio is Indonesian Yayuk Basuki, who is a two-time champion at Pattaya in 1991 and 1993. She will be making her first appearance here for 18 years and will partner Kimiko Date-Krumm in the doubles competition.

The three Asian legends will be joining World no 9 Russia’s Vera Zvonareva and World no 22 Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the PTT Pattaya Open.

Tickets for the 2010 PTT Pattaya Open are priced as follows:
Prices are 200 baht for 7February, 300, 500 and 800 baht for 8 - 11 February and 300, 500, 800 and 1,000 baht for 12 - 14 February.
