But physical exhaustion already? Now I'm really afraid. And she was crying. Vika is fighter, for she had given up of the match something is really wrong.
Now the only thing to do is wait for more news.:scared:

It could just be a problem with the weather, apparently she went from the Aussie heat to below freezing tempretures in Belarus and then onto Portugal in a short space of time.

In any case, hopefully she's back to full health soon.:)

According to the woman doing the updates for the UK, Vika got taken away in an ambulance after the match :sad: but she seems ok today

http://www.lta.org.uk/Articles/Fed-Cup-2009/2010/As-it-Happens/04022010---Operation-Austria/

But every second update of hers has some bitchy sarcastic comment about Vika so I'm not sure if it's true

Yes i noticed that too - that GB reporter's smugness and bitchyness towards Vika seem to know no bounds  She couldn't even write an update without having a dig at her. She made it sound as if nothing was wrong with her last night too without mentioning that she collapsed. She's probably one of the obssessive Vika haters from this forum  It sounds bad going against my own country even though i don't follow any GB WTA players besides Robbo, but i hope they don't get promotion now or even better Belarus stop them somehow without Vika to see how she takes it.

This Portuguese reporter MiguelSeabra guy on twitter seems to still be bitter that Vika isn't working with his pal Antonio too:

Thought of you @mark_wellington while watching Vika collapse. A lot of dumb decisions. She could've been in the top3 by now. G'luck w/ Nadia

FedCup Lisbon d1 redux: MichelleLarcher deBrito clueless, Azarenka had forehand exposed then physicaly collapsed, Wozniacki bagelled in dubs

After what I saw while commentating the WTAChamps (with you @mark_wellington & @VanGrichen watching courtside), dunno if Azarenka'll make it

@bobbychin question: why, having an experienced trainer like Mark Wellington, was she spent after set&half at WTAChamps? lack of commitment

There's nothing like kicking someone while they're down is there  i bet he's been waiting to have a dig at Vika ever since she split with his pal. Vika seems to have started this season absolutely fine without the dream team of Van Grichen and Wellington and seems to be enjoying it much more. It was Antonio's new girl that looked spent after a set and a half against Vika at the AO  Notice how he didn't dare refer to her as @Vika7 in his tweets too when bashing her but has before when talking to her, not about her

I like the way he's basing his opinion that Vika might not 'make it' on the evidence of seeing her retire in a match she was obviously never anywhere near feeling 100% too  I'm sure a lot of players games would be exposed while playing with a virus.

She's obviously genuinely not well because she's withdrawn now from Fed cup for the week.

Possible R16 opponents:
Francesca Schiavone ITA 18
Nadia Petrova RUS 19
Jie Zheng CHN 20
Aravane Rezai FRA 21

Possible QF opponents:
Elena Dementieva RUS 7
Jelena Jankovic SRB 8
Agnieszka Radwanska POL 9
Na Li CHN 10

In R16, I am a bit scared of Schiavone as Schiavone beat Vika last year, and has been climbing the ranking ever since. Petrova seemed to hit form in Australia, so could be dangerous as well.

After AO I'm really afraid of Petrova and Zheng. Schiavone is dangerous player. And Rezai dressing like that is the most dangerous player. Almost impossible to focus when you see someone dressed like that on the other side of the court.

To be honest i'm more worried about what draw she could get at IW where she'l likely be the third seed and as the rankings stand she could face Clijsters or Sharapova in the fourth round and of course Henin could also pop up anywhere :scared: Masha had better win Memphis to move up into the 9-12 seeds section.

Vikapower
Feb 9th, 2010, 08:53 PM
Vika lost to Schiavone mostly because she headcased the second set and the match but I think that she has shown some new mental progress in the Aussie and I think in Dubaï we'll get to see the same thing from her. :p

I'm not scared of anyone there unless Dementieva and Na Li wich are allways very difficult players to handle. Petrova showed some very good things in the Aussie but she's still very versatile and Vika had won their last meeting in 3 sets... Jankovic is not in a good mood right now and Vika can blow off Radw from the court anytime. Rezai hits very hard but can be very very inconstant. :)

What a performance it was from you in 2010 AO
I think I first fell for you back in the last season when you won your first major! This year I'm sure you're gonna win more and more majors and I'm sure you can beat Serena as well to grab your first GS. Vika, this I'm sure! Just do not lose your temper and you're gonna be the winner!

I have to confess that pink color suits you best. In AO you were terrific with that color. I also found out how cool you are when everybody else get nervous. I'm talking about your listening to iPod, right before your match. You never felt shaky when they were waiting for the roof to get closed or the clouds to let the sunshine in. Your confidence was extraordinary!

Just can't wait more to catch you on TV

Kleybanova could be a tricky 3rd round, she has been playing well recently. Vera will only fly in tomorrow from Thailand so she has to be feeling a bit tired, and I'd rather have her or JJ as a QF opponent than Dementieva.

Yep Kleybanova could be tricky but she does tend to be very inconsistent in these tournaments outside of slams and may even struggle to beat Zheng if they play each other in R2. Vika definitely has the better side of the draw though.

I think i'd rather have Vika face JJ too than Vera because Vera seems to be a bad matchup for Vika even though our girl won their last encounter. The H2H still stands at 1-4 in Vera's favour too and Vika hadn't even taken a set off her until a couple of weeks ago. Anyway that's still a long way away and Vika needs to get to the QF first before we start worrying about her opponent.....

I feel sorry for some haters, their hate is so over the top that they just post nonsense like that, i mean it's not like she was 1-4 down when her opponent retired :weirdo: it's the same one that said Vika couldn't keep the ball in the court in her practice in HK, then she won the next day 6-1 against Dulko

Vika very rarely loses to anyone outside the top 20 so i'm not sure what weapons he/she thinks K.Bondarenko had in her to perform a Serena style comeback

The extra rest will do her good though with having to play twice everyday now if she stays in singles and doubles although beating Bluber tomorrow will be a huge ask.

Feb 16th, 2010, 05:01 PM
But for Li Na's AO antics her match vs Bartoli looked to be a Court 3 material instead of Azarenka-ALG. Kulikova on CC is pure madness even with Kuznetsova and Peer will never get exposure here despite the fact her match vs Wozniacki looks the most competitive on paper.

Yeah, this is some really stupid scheduling (not to mention incredibly frustrating for Vika fans).

After tomorrow, Vika will be the only player among the top 10 seeds yet to appear on center court. And she's seeded fourth.

But then again, seeing as though they apparently won't put Peer on center court for "security reasons" (yeah, right) despite the fact that she's playing the #1 seed, I'm not really surprised.

Venus is of course a great player but i think Vika will like the extra pace coming onto her racket that she'l get off Venus that she didn't get off Vera or Aga. It'l probably come down to how much of a liability her serve is during the match and how consistent Venus is, but it could be a great final with hopefully our girl coming out on top. Venus is about the only regular top 10 player of the last few years that she's never beaten even though they've only played once before so it'l be a great scalp to get if she can pull it off :)

bad luck on the third MP which dipped over to Vika's side after the ball hit the net. however, I really liked what I saw about her mental strength, fighting back from 0-3 down in the second, and hitting fearlessly in the first 2 MPs. And add to that Venus was at the top of her game which made things doubley difficult. Vika did well to stay with Venus for as long as she did considering how well Vee was serving, she was just getting so many cheap points and this is easily the best Vee has played since Wimby this week.

TBH i think she has been coming in at the right times but when you play Venus it looks worse than it actually is when it doesnt come off because her court coverage is so good and she gets to the ball a lot quicker than any other player then hits those awesome DTL and CC shots with her long reach. Vika's net success rate was actually higher than Venus' today i think according to the stats towards the end and against Aga and Vera she had over 80% net success rate so there's not a lot wrong with that part of her game.

I believe she can win IW - no Serena or Venus there! :D

Yeah, Venus might be getting old, but when she decides to really play it's tough to defeat her.
But Vika played well, maybe not very well like the Zvonareva and Radwanska matches, but was a nice game of her. The big problem was the service of Venus. She couldn't get through it, so she had difficult to get around the net to do the volleys that she was doing so well in the last matches.
But if her improve her service I think that her game will get really better. Work on that, girl!

I am really impressed with her fh now :inlove:

Last year it was so cheesy and now she can really open up the court with it. Sumyk has been amazing and he is getting her to net more like what he have all wanted..she just need to work on when she comes in..

Yeah I think her forehand was better than her backhand yesterday! She played two outstanding points off her forehand on the first two match points. I wonder if that's what she meant when she talked about working on the mental side of her shots in the offseason, having the belief to accelerate through the forehand rather than backing off and looping it up. She played a great point on the third match point too but got unlucky.

I think she found it hard to get a rhythm against Venus's serve, even more than against Serena. Looking back on the match I was a bit harsh on her in the live thread. Overall she played pretty good, just had a dip at the start of the second and that bad game at 3-6 5-5. She served very well and I love the bravery in coming to net, it's only by doing this in matches like these that she will learn anticipation and angles at net.

Overall her game looks in great shape, looking forward to IW (unfortunately I can't go anymore :sobbing:).

Not exactly what I hoped for but Vika had a great tournament. And from what I read she played well most of the time, too. It looks like Sumyk & Vika are a great team so I hope for good results to come :) Good luck at IW

Yeah a great week for her indeed. Some of the tennis she played was as good as any i've seen in her career. The Vera match in particular was  Even in the final she didn't exactly play badly but Vee was in her Wimbledon winning form and Vika still nearly matched her.

Here's the post match interview transcript from the Dubai tournament site

Q. What is the difference at the end of
the match, because you led from 3-1 down?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Yeah, I led, but
it was no break, you know. It was hard. Venus
came off with some big shots, and, you know, I
think overall the game was really good. Very
high quality of tennis from both of us.
Just, you know, a little bit of bad luck on
a few balls. But I'm proud of what I did today.

Q. Shame on that last point?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Yeah, there is
nothing else you can do. You just have to accept
that.

Q. She hits the ball hard, doesn't
she?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Yes, she does.

Q. Was that the difference today?
She's just got that extra bit of power in her
serve and in her ground stroke?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: No, I don't think
so. She was just, you know, making -- it's not
about power. It's more about precision that she
was making it on the lines close to the lines.
There was more about that. I don't know.
I felt pretty comfortable there. You know
but she played too good today.

Q. Do you feel you're closing up more
and more on these Top-5 players?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Definitely. I
think I changed my game a little bit. I became a
better player, a more aggressive player, more
tougher player to beat. You know, I'm very proud with the work
I'm doing, and just for me it's just extra motivation
to go back and try a little harder. Because I'm
enjoying tennis so much like I never did in my life
before.

Q. You said you didn't think it was a
question of power today, but is there anyone
who hits the ball harder than Venus in the
women's game?
VICTORIA AZARENKA: Well, serve,
probably not. I mean, Serena also gave me a
200 in Australia. It's actually pretty painful if you
don't hit it right (laughing). But, you know, that's
their big strength, you know, the serve. What
can you do? You just try to work and get the
same. Thank you.

I'm not a fan of Azarenka, but I liked her play very much lately (but I have seen only a few sets from her, not full matches). She is almost as good as the top players (Williams sisters, Henin, ...) and much younger. And I feel she improved in the mental aspect of game, too.

I haven't posted yet on Vika's loss to Venus but indeed Vika really played the match how it had to be played but once again thoses Williams sisters and their serve allways present to ruin the party.

I wouldn't say Vika's forehand was better than her backhand but on match points it was sure at its level - she was hitting some very hard penetrating forehands  I've never seen her hit before... and now if she starts hitting her forehand on a more regular basis like she did on thoses matchs points with power, angles and everything well it will be another great weapon to greatness...

The only reproach I make to Vika in that match is at 5 all she could really have played a better service game to pressure Venus a little bit more instead of thoses useless UE... Sooooooo much confidence entering IW - I have a dream with the level of play she has right now that she could win both Tiers I, just a dream... :hysteric:

Isn't it possible for Vika to be a 1-4 seed again since WS ain't playing and Safina is likely to withdraw? :speakles:

7. Jankovic
8. Li

9. Stosur
10. Pennetta
11. Sharapova
12. Bartoli

13. Zvonareva
14. Wickmayer
15. Clijsters
16. Schiavone

17. Petrova
18. Peer
19. Zheng
20. Rezai
21. A. Bondarenko
22. Hantuchova
23. Lisicki
24. Kleybanova

25. Ivanovic
26. Pavlyuchenkova
27. Cibulkova
28. Vesnina
29. Szavay
30. K. Bondarenko
31. Martinez Sanchez
32. Garrigues

R32: one of the 25-32 seeds

QF: one of the 5-8 seeds
SF: Safina or Kuznetsova

Vika should be 3rd seed if Safina withdraws. Based on her season so far she must be one of the favourites to win the tournament.. depends on Henin's draw though:unsure:
