Well at least the new blog entry tells us she's still planning on working with Sumyk.
Good to hear that she's disappointed with those losses, I hope she trains her ass off and gets some good results in IW/Miami again. :)

Happy to hear she disapointed so much so she had to fly home for a few days. It's good to know she's trying to refocus. I hope she's in a better place (mental, emotional, game strategy wise) come Indian Wells. There's absolutely no reason for her to being losing early in hardcourt events.

Please play well in Indian Wells/Miami, Vika. :sobbing:

She has a 3R to defend at IW and a 4R in Miami.
She can definitely improve there.
Good luck Vika! :cheer:

Break My Rapture
Feb 28th, 2011, 03:09 PM
Yeah she can really win some points there. But she'll have to play with more intensity IMO and hopefully she gets kind draws for once and not the most red-hot player of the draw. :help:

Why clay season?

VIKA?
Feb 28th, 2011, 07:49 PM
Well basically cuz she has no points to defend there and just to change a bit and see if she goes better on clay than hard...

Break My Rapture
Feb 28th, 2011, 08:30 PM
She'll lose a lot of points again in IW and Miami then though. :p I think it would be better if she just trains her ass off and she should be fine in her next couple of tournaments. :) Who knows, with the right draw she could go deeper in both events than last year.

Allez Vika! :cheer: Napped through the match and she wins. Ah, I love spring break. :p

Looking at the stats, it appears again that she's at least going for her serve (low first serve percentage; nice solid winning percentage) which I can deal with. I'd rather her crank the serve and miss some that way as oppossed to being scared of serving. What worries me is her crappy break point defense and conversion percentages. That's where her serve is hurting her, I think. And there's no reason Vika should be struggling with the return of serve of the Lesser Radwanska.

That said, fuckery aside, there are positives in these matches: she's grinding out wins in straight sets. She's fighting, which is something I feel she didn't do in Dubai and Doha. She appears to be going for her serve, which she hasn't been doing consistently for months. Here's hoping she's working her way back into the form we know she's capable of! :D

I just got up from my nap and saw the score.
How in the name of all things holy and sacred did our Queen of Fuckery win this match?
How the hell did she manage to save all those match points?

She's clearly still having serve issues, but she's not getting scared of it (by all apperances of her first serve percentages)and something in her game (her groundies or maybe she's attacking so she's not getting into long rallies)is working. Or at least she's fighting through her fuckery.

She should be alright after a day off as long as she hasn't picked up any minor injuries.

HowardH
Mar 16th, 2011, 01:22 PM
Vika is certainly a fighter- but she's putting herself in positions where she has to fight for every single win. She's used to fighting because she's getting used to struggling. That kind of thing is draining and could have a bad effect in following tournaments. With her history of injuries she cannot be playing these kinds of matches all the time. She's playing doubles too, that's a lot of court time. If she wants to win without exhausting herself she needs to improve her serve. She must know it's a problem, but it seems she cannot fix it.

As Mike said above, the day off will help though. Just as well for her really. Honestly, I'm still expecting the tiredness to show at some point against Caro.

The day off should help after playing so much yesterday. She's very brave for playing in doubles after her singles match went the distance.

I don't have very much confidence in Vika beating Ruffle Woz, especially since I'm of the belief that Vika has developed a mental issue with Caro when they play eachother. If Ruffle Woz's match against Kleybanova showed anything is that Caro's still capable of grinding a big hitter down, albeit Kleybanova's fitness isn't the best. For Vika to have a chance to win she has to be on form, which she isn't. She has to be working her serve, which is dicey at best. And she has to aggressive, which I hope she. Caro isn't going to hit errors for Vika, Vika has to win the point and that means moving Caro around, finding that opening and coming in; taking away time.

May the force be with you, Vika.

Break My Rapture
Mar 16th, 2011, 05:23 PM
She needs to bring her angles, dropshots and volleys back again. That's something I really missed when she played Woz in Tokyo.

there's always an angel on court when Vika is playing :hearts:

Anyway, Caro's biggest strength is taking advantage of her opponent's lapses. She can be getting completely outplayed and then suddenly she's back in the match. Vika needs to stay mentally focused the whole time.

Matt Cronin just said this on twitter:

'Just talked 2 Azarenka:' If Caroline wants to play 2 and 1/2 hours, I can play 2 1/2 hours too.' Does think she can eventually hit thru BFF'

It's a left hip flexor strain, so if she takes care of it between now and Miami she should be okay to play, though I wouldn't be surprised if she pulls out of Miami either, it all depended on how fast it heals. She's played a lot of tennis this week in both singles and doubles and crap like this happens.

And if I hear one more sarcastic irritating comment about Vika's bag check OR her "always retiring" and "not an athlete" I'm going to lose it. I'm so tired of people talking down about Vika's game, her grunt, her lack of power but yet bitching that she's a ballbasher. She's in the top ten for a good damned reason people. Deal with it.

I really hope she is able to play and put in a good showing in Miami, all things aside this was a good tournament for her considering her form. She got some fight back in her which I think we all were worried she'd lost in Dubai/Doha. If she does play Miami, she needs to skip doubles for a while, I know that sucks for Kiri, but it's just something that has to be taken into account.

Petulant trolls is a perfect description. The insinuation that Vika's fat/out of shape is making me laugh though, because if she's fat that what the hell does that make some of the other players? If she was out of shape, she would have lost long before this round.

The scans are usually just to make sure everything looks okay in there, hopefully, since she was able to walk on it, it shouldn't take too long to heal. Obviously even if it isn't torn or anything but the doctors tell her to not play Miami I hope Sumyk puts his foot down (again) and tells her she can't play.

Maybe she needs a new trainer though or a change in her fitness regiment. She's obviously showing weaknesses in her thighs and that could be due to not focusing on them enough in fitness to get them and keep them as strong as possible. I did kind of get the feeling by Sumyk's talk with her that this may be something they'll have to work on once she's healed. And playing so much tennis in both singles and doubles doesn't help.

Hopefully, this isn't too serious of an injury, and more importantly hopefully this doesn't destroy the confidence she gained this week by fighting through some patchy play.

This is all so depressing. Two steps forward, three steps back.

Unfortunately the fears I (and other users) had of Vika picking up minor injuries etc were well-founded. This is why it's so bad for her when she struggles so much to hold serve and prolongs the matches. She exhausts herself.

Hopefully she recovers soon. I think she actually works quite hard on her conditioning- that's the impression I get anyway. Maybe she can do something about it. But she's just spending so much time on court, and her body isn't standing up to the type of tennis she wants to play. She wants to be tough, but she also needs to be smart, and start shortening those points, serving bigger.

Some say unlucky, some say injury prone, and to be honest she and her team would be foolish not to try and investigate why she is constantly suffering from niggling injuries. ALL. THE. TIME.

I definitely agree that she needs to look into her training schedule and how they focus on her legs, she's had a history of left (and right) thigh strains, and she and her team need to try to adjust it so her legs become stronger so these injuries become fewer. Yet at the same time, once you start having a trouble area, it's probably always going to be a trouble area. I'm greatful that this isn't and shouldn't be a too terrible injury, more nagging and annoying. But she'll definitely need to adjust her training as well as her tour schedule (ie. less doubles, a more productive schedule) to compensate for the weak spot.

She'll always have tournaments where she's winning easily and playing well and then there will be tournaments where she'll struggle and while she'll get the wins, she'll have to work very hard for them. I think Indian Wells was the later of these and thus why her already sore and tired muscles gave into strain.

It's such a weird situation. On one hand winning tough three setters is good for her mental toughness but on the other hand Vika isn't made to play 2-3 hour matches, especially on hard courts. But yes, she really needs to get her game to where she's winning those games at 5, 4, or 3 all that can win a set. I feel like sometimes Vika lets games like this go and I think that's what happened last night in the second set. It's obvious she could have won this match much easier.

Alas, she won and that's what matters.

Domi worries me. She can run and defend balls well and still be able to hit the crap out of the ball. So Vika cannot be content with just rallying, she has to be aggressive and not let Domi dictate with her movement. I don't expect expect Vika to win, honestly.

Vika and her fuckery will be the death of me. :sobbing:

If she could just play like she did at the tail end of the second set all the time she wouldn't have these problems.

She called him out early in the first set, but didn't the rest of the match which is interesting. Maybe she's realizing that his advice blows? :p

So happy that she was able to turn it around, now I really want to watch this. :crying2:
I hope this isn't too harsh on her body though and she doesn't have a day of rest this time so hopefully she's not too tired to face Pavs.

As I recall, they were last up on Court 1. But it doesn't say that anymore.

Yeah definitely all the R4 Matches today.

And if you look at the schedule for court 1, under 'S Stakhovsky (UKR) / M Youzhny...' it says '-WTA' so probably just an error they made

Kim must be tired of yesterday's match.
I wouldn't count on that - Kimmie when she plays crap relies (solely) on the opponent's nerves and she's using her status as very well to do so too... Ana cracked... Vika isn't the most solid guaranty of keeping her nerves in the tight moments... hopefully she does the job cleanly.

Seems clear that Kim was far from her best and the shoulder affected her serving, but frankly on a HC in America that situation is necessary for pretty much anyone to win against her, so well done to Vika.
