Apparently Zvonareva withdrew from Stanford so doesn't that mean Vika will be seeded 8th now? :hearts:

allrounder
Jul 24th, 2010, 01:20 PM
Yeah Vika should be the 8th seed now :) Hopefully she'l be in either Aga or Bartoli's quarter of the draw.

Break My Rapture
Jul 24th, 2010, 01:26 PM
Good, now we don't have to worry about her ending up practically anywhere in the draw, next to a seed. :)

allrounder
Jul 24th, 2010, 01:34 PM
We could do with one top 8 withdrawal from San Diego too because Vika's also one spot off being seeded there since JJ took a WC last week but there must be doubts over whether her or Vera will play there now with their injuries.

Break My Rapture
Jul 24th, 2010, 01:35 PM
Oh I thought she was sure to be seeded there. :speakles: Oh well, like you said there's a good chance Bepa or Jelena might withdraw.

allrounder
Jul 24th, 2010, 02:37 PM
Well they seed 16 players at San Diego and formerly LA so she will be seeded regardless, but top 8 is what we want as they get R1 byes :)

Vika is stuck in Bartoli's quarter of the draw. :)

allrounder
Jul 24th, 2010, 08:32 PM
Vika's Stanford draw is:

R1 Morita
R2 Oudin/Wozniak
QF Ivanovic/Kleybanova/Bartoli
SF Stosur/Wickmayer

Break My Rapture
Jul 24th, 2010, 08:35 PM
Vika has the best part of the draw. :D
If she's healthy she could go far here, I think. :)

allrounder
Jul 24th, 2010, 08:38 PM
The first and third sections seem very weak apart from the seeded players in them, but yeah at least she isn't on the same side as Masha/Dementieva. I just hope she makes the QF's at least because Vika isn't the best of opportunists when draws look good for her :sobbing:

Break My Rapture
Jul 24th, 2010, 08:39 PM
Yup. :tears: I'd be happy with a QF. :)

Anyway, R1 shouldn't be much of a problem. Hope it goes well for Vika.

hurricanejeanne
Jul 24th, 2010, 08:41 PM
Very doable draw for Vika. If she's playing well (which is the big question) and healthy (she should be) she could do very well here.

Morita is a good player to start against, though she hits a nice ball and could be somewhat difficult. Of the rest of the girls everyone is beatable, they're mostly big hitters and can be very hit and miss while Vika at her best is steady while staying aggressive. If she plays her game she'll definitely win.

I'm more nervous about her playing defending types of girls like Oudin though.

Well, I really like Vika's draw at Stanford. I was fearing her to meet Maria before the finals which she willn't... Now we just have to hope that she takes advantage which she sometimes doesn't do when her draws are too easy. C'mon Victoria... 2-3 weeks are so long, can't wait to watch you play again... :bounce:

An hour and 20 mins isn't that long  Mel's a counterpuncher type of player that doesn't take many risks so there were always going to be a lot of long rallies, but it was a good workout for Vika hopefully she's 100% physically again now and the ranking/results will take care of themselves :)

I read that her movement and footwork looked really good. :)

Not to put a damper on the good vibes and a great win but I just need to vent a little frustration at one thing I've noticed. It seems to me as if no matter how much Vika's toned down her attitude, negativity, etc and how much of an effort she's making to be more accessible and open, people, even those who admit that she's less of a so-called "brat", revert back to referring to her as such and mentioning her bad attitude, temper and such when talking about her. How does this make sense when they've freely made observations that she's less temperamental and is actually quite funny and nice off court? Is it just a case of old habits die hard? And the only problem I have with it is that it seems like she won't ever be getting a fair shake. Okay, end rant.

Awesome win for Vika! :D

I really think this kind of match is good for Vika too. Shoedin has a reputation for coming back from being down and she's the type of player that can lull a player like Vika into making a lot of errors. I'm glad to see that Vika had to stay on her toes and stay mentally alert throughout which is such a key for her.

Hopefully she'll be rested enough to play doubles after Maria's match. This schedule is ridiculous though. :p

I think with a lot of the haters that it's not just her old brattiness they don't like, but the fact that they also see her as a threat to their own favourites now and in the future which is why they can't stop hating despite the fact Vika isn't even badly behaved on court anymore. In fact in the matches i've seen this season Caro's smashed her racquet a lot more times than Vika and yet shes still portrayed as 'Miss Sunshine' while Vika's a spoilt brat and all the other insults you see a lot in GM hurled at her

Yeah, I think she's going to be stuck with the moody, bratty, temperamental label for a long while still. She's curbed it a lot in the last year alone though. I think anytime she does so much as just have a look on her face that just says "omg I'm an idiot for making that shot" she's going to get flack for being moody. It's definitely sad considering she really is a sweet, funny young lady though. Hopefully, if she continues to be a top player over the next few years, more and more people will finally see the maturity we fans have seen in her for a long time now.

Thank God Andreas your feeling about that match didn't come true... I don't know if to say that Vika played a great match or not depending on the angle you take it but one thing I do know is that from a mental standpoint she really fought it all and thats what I like.

Didn't look like a good day for her with her sensations on court but you've got to find way to win nonetheless, so, great to finally see her hugging success again, Vika a champ and great fighter one more step to the finals. :inlove:

First set and a half Vika was very flat whilst Bartoli was playing her absolute best serving brilliantly and hitting lines all over. Bartoli began to understandably make more errors after she went up a break in the second set, but Vika did very well to take advantage after how poorly she was playing and raised her level enough to grind out a lot of close games and win the match as i and many others in here saw no way back for her at all at one stage :)

One of the nicer parts of Vika's good week in Stanford? Here's what Matt Cronin, who I've called out before, said on twitter:

"Azarenka plays a forceful and heady match to close out Bartoli 6-3 in 3rd. Maybe it was injuries that held her back in spring/early summer"

I don't want crow too much since I always think it'll backfire but...isn't this what we've been saying and they've been ignoring for a long time? :)

Matt Cronin doesn't do common sense  I remember at the time when Vika lost to Ivanovic I think it was in Rome that he 'declared Victoria Azarenka is officially slumping', when it was clear for all to see that she was severely hampered by injury in that match and many of her other losses around that period  He also said 'it doesn't matter if Vika's injured or not its still a huge win for Ana', hmm yeah because beating injured players really proves a lot and has since shown as she's done nothing since then

Right now is the first time Vika has been injury free since Miami in fact and the commentator on tonights stream said that Vika said she's feeling good physically again for the first time in a long time in a recent interview.

Yes, seeing how she beat these 2 in Stanford I guess it'll be a nice 2 first rounds and if Vika wins the title in Standford confidence will be at peak and when she's confident she can be unplayable so I think its the Mel's and Sam's fans to be afraid right now I guess.

And if we compare Vika's USO 2009 debut where she drawed Masha, Jelena and Kim in the first couple tournaments of the series I'm siging in right now for a recurrent Mel, Sam in each every tourney leading up to the USO.

I'm pretty nervous for today. A lot of people expect Maria to win so hopefully Vika proves them wrong. The thing is that, like we saw yesterday, Vika's game really needs to be on a consistently high level. It'l be because of her win at Stanford and to recharge her batteries for the big events at Cincy and Montreal. Another premier in SD would have made it playing 4 weeks in a row and now she has a title and some good ranking points there's less need to play again so soon and burn herself out for the USO. While i'm disappointed i understand her decision and it'l at least be a stress free week for us  The worst part though is that she had a good draw to go deep again

Yeah, she'll have to claim an "injury" but it's really because she's tired and she needs a rest before Cincy/Montreal and the Open. It's a wise move in the long run considering she's been injury plagued this year a bit. I'm sad to have her pull out too, but schedule wise San Diego would be too much. And considering how much I hate re-hashed draws (and San Diego was one) I'm pleased that I get to skip that mess. :p

I think with the top 10 commitment rules if they withdraw from an event they have to agree to do some promotional work for the tour instead if I remember right and that's probably what this is. Sam will have to get down to SD tomorrow if he hasn't already gone otherwise he'l miss her

Same here. Sam. At least she can get some rest now.

Yes, I am really glad that pulled out of SD. I want her to be fit & healthy for the US Open :) The last thing we need right now is another injury

Fake right shoulder injury hope so.
But a week is awesome, she has time to enjoy and eat cake in Arizona, and she has Cincy next week :)

My connection really sucked yesterday... congratulations Victoria... Great title to add to your CV... Just the day before I paid attention to the 6-7 past champions of the tournament really impressive and it makes me even happier she's written her name up there. I heard she wasn't taking part in San Diego's tournament... well kind of sad because her draw was kind of easy... but I guess she's reserving us better for the upcoming tournaments. :cheer:

Congrats Vika :bounced: I just knew it would happen that she would withdraw and being a selfish man I wanted her to lose in the SF  but it's ok

I just about screamed when they announced Shoedin vs Lucky Loser last night :) she did an autograph session in some cool glasses and hat so I'll put some pics later ;)

Vika gets Ivanovic in R1 in Cincy :spit: She will be the favourite but she could of got something a lot easier than that. Hope she gets revenge for that injury loss in Rome :armed:

OMFG. What is up with all these fucked up draws? :weirdo: First Maria/Sveta and now Vika/Ana. :sobbing:

Well drawing Ana first round isn't much of a problem IMO... I think I'ld be a little more worried if Vika had to face someone like Anna Chak for expample... Vika will get that match and her revenge.

Ana could still be very dangerous and i'm certainly not taking it for granted that Vika will win comfortably. Ana has nothing to lose with her ranking so low now and on her day can be a match for most top players.

Interesting that this will be the first time Vika and Ana have played on something other than clay. If Vika is still in form she was in during Stanford she should win this one but Ana is still dangerous in the sense that no one expects her to win anything. Hopefully Vika goes out there in form and is just too good for Ana. But I'm definitely anxious about this one, especially considering what happened in Rome.

Vika's full draw

R1 Ivanovic
R2 Shvedova/Qualifier
R3 Schiavone
QF Jankovic
SF Clijsters/Zvonareva

Pretty tough, I'd like her to at least get a QF to collect 200 points.

Revenge on Ana and Schiavone would be nice. :)

I'm veery concerned about the first two rounds. Bad draw in my opinion. Ana is very dangerous and Yari is equally or more dangerous.

I have a bad feeling.

Hopefully she can at least win a few rounds though :)

expect a tough one against Ana depending on which Ana surfaces, will it be the one who blew kleybanova off the court pretty convincingly in stanford or the one everyone has been watching in pain the last couple of years. she should make the semi-final where i would expect a good tough match with kim don't ask who i think would win because i honestly don't know.

Indeed Ana can be dangerous but a focused Vika gets the better of the serbe now even if Ana gets this tight I don't think she'll overtough Vika... I don't know what to think of the draw - Vika is in form right now and in the mood she's in I'd say this is a very reasonnable draw until she gets to Jelena or Kim... The match with Fran can be a very tight trappy match - there is also a revenge to take from USO 2009. Vika has shown us some too much iunteresting things at Stanford to not get at least to the semis, I'm confident. :cheer:

oh i have NO doubt she WILL be in the semi-final unless god forbit she gets injured but in the semi-finals i expect a vika vs kim match and it's too tough 4 me to try and call ,schiavone has been a epic fail after roland garros hasn't she poor thing :rolls: so don't expect trouble there.

Yes I agree for Fran  but she's that type of player like Radwanska they loose but always make you play a match in other ways they always bug you or make the match overdramatic before they lost... Well as for me there's no doubt if Vika plays Kim I'll want Vika to win even if I have appreciation for the belgian. :p Good luck deciding who you're going to support before this happens. :wavey:
