The thread for the Brisbane International (maybe Sydney) and the Australian Open. Hopefully when she comes to play Brisbane we see that she is putting in some hard work and the results follow. Hopefully. I'll be going to both Brisbane and the AO, so I can post my own little reports and stuff in here. Also, if you wanna check my twitter, I'll try and tweet from the tournament when I'm watching practices ( www.twitter.com/Davodus )
I go on January 1st, then heaps of times after that

She was up 6-0 4-0 in like 30 minutes, I remember seeing like 2 unforced errors and 31923490082409842908 winners before Garbin started trying trick shots and won some games :p it was great. Then I saw Ana next round against Srebotnik and her serve was so good! She never got broken :sobbing: I just could enjoy watching her dominate. Now that doesn't happen

OOH, I don't know where to put this, but I found an article in the Daily Mail dating back to January 5, 2009 and it contained some info about Ana's website

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-1105803/ALEX-KAY-TALKS-TENNIS-Nick-Bollettieri-Murray-Federer-Williams-sisters-Laura-Robson-decline-US-game.html

ANA’S SMOOTH…

While many players fill their personal websites with dour accounts of how hard they tried in the last match and how they couldn’t have won without their coach/mother/God etc, Ana Ivanovic has provided fans with a great little insight into the woman behind the racket.

Chatting about New Year’s Eve, she said: ‘I may stay up till midnight but it will be tough considering that I’ve been going to bed quite early lately and getting up early in the mornings.

'Each morning I start my days with a delicious mango smoothie, which I recently learned how to make.’

So what do you do with a piece of information like that? I sent her a smoothie recipe book of course and asked her to get in touch with more precise details on how she makes hers.

Her agent tells me he will give the book to her when she comes back from Australia in February. Until then, guess it’s a case of just sitting back and waiting for the restraining order.

 I'm glad she's updating her website :p

Hey David!

What Ana said is she would spend the New Year's Eve with a barbacue at the beach.. not new year's day. Isn't New year's day the first official day of practice in Brisbane?

Here is what she said exactly:

Where will you spend New Year’s evening?
I’m not sure yet, but I’ll probably be in Queensland, before the Brisbane tournament. Maybe we’ll have a barbecue on the beach or something like that, and watch the sunset.

She talked about having Christmas day off at the beach.. but not New Year's day.

Davodus
Dec 28th, 2009, 12:22 PM
Pheeeewwww! I just read somewhere that it was new years day...actually I saw it on fox sports news as well, but they got it wrong :woohoo: So now she has no excuses, she has to go practice ;) and yes, it is the first official day of practice here.

I went out to the centre today, just for a look around, and I saw so many people practicing. It was great, I really didn't expect it. It has been raining here, so most people were drying their own courts  but Hantuchova got one of the covered courts so she was fine  No Ana, though I wouldn't expect to see her. I saw Hradecka and I really wanted to say to her that she should maybe play the way she did against Ana again, she will make top 10  :p

At least Ana didn't get Justine. But Dokic can be tough to beat at home. This is going to be an interesting match. I guess it will all come down to if Ana's off-season preparation has really made her improve her game or not. I mean, that is probably more important than who her opponent is. If she plays well and finds her form, she should win. But we really have no clue how she will play. Good luck Ana. :)

Dokic was hitting so well yesterday when I watched, it was intense. Butttt I plan on watching this match, if it is on before tuesday night I definitely will, and if it is Tuesday night (which I doubt) I will buy tickets :p

Ana can win, if Dokic goes into error mode. If she doesn't, it will be close.

Why :scared:
Dokic is in a worse slump than Ana is so no reason to be afraid of her
Ana will win this

I think Jelena will be tough.

But I'm more annoyed because I wanted both of them to do well here.

Hopefully Ana can start the year off right and gain a little bit of confidence by beating a quality opponent. I'd hoped for a match where she could kind of slowly break into the year a bit, but you gotta play the hand you're dealt I suppose.

Of course she is tough, every opponent is
But Dokic lost like all matches she played last year except on GSs

Well Dokic did pretty well at some challengers to end the year. Sure they're challengers but match wins=confidence and that's more than we can say for Ana right now.

Don`t get me wrong ,i don`t think Dokic is bad or anything like that

I am going to be curious to see who the crowd roots for. If Ana is really "Aussie Ana" then she should get as good amount of support as Dokic will. I really hope Ana can play well. The last thing she needs is another 1st round exit. :sobbing: As the whole draw come out yet?

I finally got to see Ana today! She looks so stunning in person, and so tanned. But, she runs like a fool  I was laughing at her doing her warm up sprints, she sticks her butt out and puts her head forward and it was hilarious

So, she hit quite well I thought. Her forehand looked good. She was hitting with Peng, who was giving her some flat hard shots and Ana was hitting them back harder. Her volleys were looking solid too. Her serve is back to her old motion, and I only saw ONE bad ball toss (and I happened to get it on video  )
Anyway, ask me anything you want, I have my photos uploading to my picasaweb album now so I will link them when they are done.

I just read this article, and Clijsters talked about Ana.

But the 26-year-old, married to American basketballer Brian Lynch, seemed just as happy to know the glamourous Serb is willing to embrace the Aussie nickname.

"For sure, that's fine," she said. "That's a good one, I'll tell her that in the locker room.

"I saw Ana Ivanovic train earlier and she really looks like she's trained really hard."

160kmh is pretty solid, particularly a sliding serve. If it was down around 130-140 it would be more of a puff ball. Her serve was looking solid, but just in practice it is hard to know if that is what it will be in matches.

Her mother and father watched from the grass hill next to the court, and people kept talking to her mother  She is famous
Her fitness trainer was there, doing drills with her to start the practice. I think he is in some of the photos I took.

Hi everybody!

I'm a big Ana fan but have never posted in her forum before. I'm hoping good things for the 2010 season, she has so much potential that through 2009 was unrealised, but I don't think it'll be squandered. Tough first round matchup for her, but I hope and think she'll pull through :)
Hi there, I'm glad we have two WTA and two ATP faves in common. :wavey:

She won. All I can say.

I think she'll beat Timea now, however. Timea has trouble doing anything but looping her forehand. Ana beats players who hit with lots of spin 9 times out of 10.

That was a pretty horrible match from Ana, but I am giving her a pass since it's been nearly 3 months since she has last played. I was pretty nervous about this one and all I asked for was a win. She got it, so no complaints from me. As long as she show improvements in her next matches, she will be fine for now. BUT, she must show improvements if she wants 2010 to be any different than 2009. A semi's appearance here would be a nice start. Glad this match is over with even happier Ana won. :)

I told you she is going to win :p
Ugly match ,Dokic is such a ballbasher no offense
Her serve is improved ,still not strong enough but she did hit a few aces
BH also good
Return of serve completely ,totally horrible
I don`t know about FH ,hit a few good flat FH but mostly was hitting FH with spin
She did improve some things but she is very very rusty and needs more matches and more confidence
Also more FH like that one at 3-3 to earn a BP

Adam was there

Also i watched Wickmayer play before Ana and Ana played better imo :pAm actually glad to see him getting enthusiastic when Ana does well;he was more like a frigid statue at Wimbledon so that's why I had him ranked way, way, way below Nando on the suitability scale...as Nando would anguish whenever Ana didn't play well.If Ana recovers her talent, then she'll have less time to spend with him,a LOT less WAGging availability than before. If he's okay with that and supports her success, then I'll totally retract most all of those bad things I said about him...but he was DEFINITELY banging Kate Hudson;I'm not gonna change THAT one:p.

Agree with most folks that we couldn't expect TOO much from Ana in this first match, but she most surely needs some victories by ANY means in order to restore her confidence. As long as she focuses well on her weak points, she still has it in her to be awesome again:):):)

I must be going crazy but her ball toss was fine in first and second set imo
It`s just shows how it`s all connected with her head

But whatever even if Ana played great Dokic would still be a dangerous opponent so i`m happy
Nobody expects her to win a title but to keep winning matches ,even ugly if needed just to stop losing in first rounds

BTW Ana owns serbian and serbian/aussie players :p

I thought she played much better against Safarova in Toronto, and she lost that one, Dokic DF'd to give Ana at least two breaks.

But it's great that she won, it was only her second match since New York, so we can't be too critical, she still fighting hard and seems very determined.

I agree. She looked much better against Safarova last August than she did tonight. Of course she was dealing with rust in today's match so we shall see how much different she looks tomorrow.

This is a new year,a new season and a fresh start for Ana.Last year was a disaster for her and now she wants to forget and be on the track again. But while reading the messages-specially general messages some critisizms are really hard. They are a little bit unfair whoever she is.
I think fans should wait to make a judgements since it is too early. She is expected to achieve a lot of things from her immediately.

I agree with this
Losing against WS,Justine is a normal thing and in that match she probably can see how is her game against top players
Those loses inspire you to play better and to improve
When you lose to players like Coin and others you probably just want to disapear and never touch your racquet again

Yes
That`s why i thought Ana would win this

I think Ana's now got a good draw to the semis. Hopefully she won't lose before then, but stranger things have happened, and she is a bit fragile right now. If she reaches the semis she'll gain some points, not much but a few, and I think a semi showing in her first tournament of the year might get the ball rolling for her a bit.

Let`s not go that far
First she needs to win her 2R match
I never heard of this girl she is playing against
I hope it`s some weaker opponent,so Ana can play more aggressive and use that FH more often
I hope she`ll improve in next matches
This was a first match after a long time and Dokic isn`t a type of player that suits Ana
And she was sending all flat balls to Ana`s BH and Ana adores that

Hardly a convincing start to the year, but I wasn't really expecting anything more. At least she managed to grind out the win even though she was playing like crap. She needs to beat Bacsinszky at least, which would give her her first consecutive wins since Wimbledon. But if she can put in some good performances in her next matches and maybe get to the semis, it should do her some good going into the AO.

I watched some of the first set (which is supposed to be the best part of the match :help: ) and I was sure she was going to lose. The backhand was atrocious and her anticipation and movement looked really suspect.
