This year WTA Warsaw changes its name to Polsat Warsaw Open. Polsat is one of the biggest Polish TVs and the one which broadcasts most tennis.

Warsaw is in Wozniacki's schedule
Aga won't come for sure. Ula is in doubt.

Striking a deal with Polsat is the most sensible thing they could have done. Polsat is indeed THE biggest privately owned TV station in Poland, owned by the richest man in the country AD 2009 (according to Forbes).

Maybe Polsat is not the biggest (TVN may be bigger with all it's channels) one but this is the TV who cares about tennis most in PL(Wimbledon, Fed Cup, ATP tournaments are broadcast in its sports channels Polsat Sport/Polsat Sport 2/Polsat Sport HD).

TVN is a part of ITI company which is indeed bigger then Polsat itself but TVN concentrates more on politics and business with their sports activities limited to the so-called "n" television based on the ITI digital platform. It's nowhere near as popular as Polsat Sport.

They should have asked Eurosport for sponsorship instead :p

Agreed, as I say Polsat at least cares about sports. :) They even showed the final of 2009 Warsaw on their main channel, they were the partners of the tournament even last year. ;)

WC for Marta please:drool::hearts:

Oh, c'mon. There are only two WCs for Polish players in this event. :tape: Better give them to some young, improving players a la Kania, Zaniewska, Linette than to Domachowska who's on the verge of finishing her career.:o

Adrian.
Jan 11th, 2010, 08:17 PM
Yeah, like the girl who was double bageled last year:help:
You really think any of this girls will win more than 2 games in a match? And this question is serious:devil:
I mean, Polish fans want to see Polish girls playing in a Polish Tournament. Giving WC's to Kania, Zaniewska or Linette would mean, Polish fans, will see Polish girls, losing in 40 minutes at Polish Tournament in Round 1.:help:
I can't remember when it was the last time, a polish girl qualified to a WTA-MD. (Beside Domachowska and Radwanskas)
And Marta surely is able to win at least a set:spit: or even a match:angel:

TeamUla

Oh, if WCs were given according to your philosophy Agnieszka would have never had a chance to beat Myskina cuz WC would be given to errmm... Joanna Sakowicz, Karolina Kosinska or whatever. I don't mind Domachowska playing in qualifying - it's her current level I guess  - and with qualifying to MD she will give so much joy to Warsaw crowd.

Yeah, but Aga had some promising results in the past, before she got the WC. And Sakowicz and Kosinaka are just some random young girls like every nation has:angel:
I wouldn't mind giving them a Q-WC, what would be really better for them, as being bashed in MD by every player.
Marta should play in MD:angel:

But there is still some time left, so maybe one of the girls or Marta will proove me/us wrong.

Not money. Aga thought tourney management showed her no respect in the past, a big mistake on their part.

It was about the appearance fee Sharapova got last year because both Radwanskas were previously told there will be no fee for them and they agreed but then came the news Sharapova is coming and the director told them she was only paid for flying tickets & hotel, but Radwanska didn't believe that and was convinced some extra money was indeed handed to Sharapova under the table. Robert Radwanski was pretty vocal about it in the media and has vowed his daughters will never play in Warsaw again if the current manager was in charge.

Few weeks ago there was a story that owner of Polsat TV, Zbigniew Solorz (second richest man in Poland) will pay money for Radwanska to come, but apparently they wanted the manager to get fired too and that was kinda of out Solorz's abilities, so everything stayed the same and Radwanska is absent (Urszula wouldn't have played as well even if she wasn't injured).

I don't understand why a top 70 player wants a appearance fee to play in her own country.

Because Robert Radwanski is a greedy son of a b****, that's why  If Radwanska had a major deal with one of clothing companies, things might have been different, but for now he's in charge of absolutely everything his daughters are doing plus he doesn't give a damn about other people involved in Polish tennis. Admittedly he brought Aga into Top 10 almost all by himself and because of this he's behaving like the only person in Poland who knows how to be successful in tennis. Very similar to Richard Williams, in fact.

I'd rather expect Agnieszka to take a WC in Strasbourg than here. Reading her interviewes she is way too angry at the tournament director (as he published his private correspondence with her father last year) to play here, at least as long as the director isn't changed.

Also a nice interview by Aleksandra Woźniak in Polish :)
BTW. They are so retarded in Polsat. Still keep saying that Sabine will play :tape:

Katya is still in. Confirmed by tournament's organizers on press conference. 1st ALT is Olaru. But it seems nobody wants to take 2 WCs for TOP20 players so practically Olaru and Chacky are in. :)

If things haven't changed lately (and I believe they haven't) WTA only waits if the player is coming from another WTA (even for doubles); never for a player coming from an ITF tournament.
