Or be two of the greatest players the sport has ever seen.

Worthless thread.

But, Venus actually was in pretty bad form during the beginning of '01 though. I think confidence alone took her to the Australian semis that year.

Well considering she's won about 10 slams in dubs and two olympic gold dubs medals, that obviously doesn't always work.

Are you freaking kidding me? That was the first match of the season and it was still 7-6 in the 3rd. SMH You pull a match from 9 years ago :help: that they lost by a hair and say that is somehow a blueprint? Well damn, what the hell has happened in those 9 years since when they have won 7 more slams and a gold medal. And just so you know the WS beat Hingis/Seles in straight sets 2 weeks later at the AO which they won. :wavey: If that actually worked they would have lost a whole lot more matches in doubles over the years than they have. What do you think everyone in tennis is just stupid or something? :help:

Hingis was past her peak, Seles was post stabbing and was 20% her level. This was Venus's peak and Serena's peaking I don't see your argument...

I think what everyone is trying to say is that a first round doubles match, in one of the first tournaments of the year, that goes to 7-6 in the third is not not indicative of a player's full capabilities.

Now what is your argument? You posted a highlight reel where Venus missed a few shots from 9 years ago, and that is supposed to prove how to beat the Williams sisters in doubles now? Makes sense. Oh, wait, it doesn't at all.

This was doubles not singles and I don't believe the sisters peak in doubles was 2001 it actually can be said their doubles peak is right now. :p They had 3 doubles slams when this match took place and they've won 3 this year alone sooo. :wavey: Also Hingis was #1 in the world at that time and had won 10 titles in singles in the 2000 season. She also won 7 titles in doubles in 2000 including the FO. So she wasn't past her prime in doubles by a loooong shot, she just wasn't winning singles slam finals. She was also still one of the 2 best doubles players in the world at that point if not the best. Even though I'm not a fan there was much validity to the statement "Who is the best doubles team in the world? Martina Hingis and whoever her partner is." So your whole past her peak argument (especially in doubles) doesn't hold water. Also Seles was still capable of top 5 tennis, even if it wasn't her best level she was still one of the best players in the world and was coming off a riveting YEC final against Hingis. The beginning of the season is never and has never been peak Venus so a 1st rnd doubles match doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. I thought this was the blueprint. What went wrong over the last 9 years huh? And what went wrong 2 weeks later when Hingis and Seles lost in straight sets to Venus and Serena at the AO? People couldn't employ your strategy over 7 majors and an Olympic games? Venus has only lost about 8 tour and slam doubles matches since then, but that's the secret huh?
